Another "tips and tricks for Affliction" thread

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Warlocks,

i'm a newbie Lock playing Wow since November 2014 who have eagerly read twice all posts in this lovely forum (and not only, believe me).

As a 40 years old noob, i have little experience of raiding environments in general... but also a lot of focus when i want to become good at something.

Lock is the only class i have played so far, mainly as Destruction, but recently i picked up second specialization choosing Affliction. Here's my toon:

http://eu.battle.net/wow/it/character/pozzo-delleternita/Occhiorosso/simple

I would like to afflict you will my questions, simple and straightforward:

1) Other than QR H and SoN N equipped i do have a 670 Sandman's and a Copeland trinket and i am still enjoying DS over SB:Hount. Do you suggest a different trinket config? My idea is to keep QR and look forward an upgraded SoN to be happier.

2) What's your "feeling" with Haste value to move from DS to SB:H?

Personally @ilvl 669 i'm often starving for shards when trying SB:H.

Somehow i'm still used to the "Chaos Bolt like" using of regular Haunt but on the other hand i feel like SB:H will be the way to go once BRF hits

Thank you for any answer, whatever may be... after all i already learned a lot from this

forum and therefore will gladly accept any demonic insult you may wish to address me with.

GG

Hello there!

Straight to your questions:
1)Copeland is probably the best trinket available now. I don't have it though, but I would use it over anything else if I could get my hands on it.

Soul Shards are issue.
Don't be this hard on DS:Haunt. It's only good in 2 encounters now - Twins where you need to buff your dots on 2 targets and Butcher where you can have a good uptime with this small shard count.

2)My feeling is that Haste has a very weird worth now: ton of your ticks come from Drain Soul, and HM gear overall gives you a weird stat mix. Mastery is a way to go for me, as I still play other specs, and those "free ticks" from Drain Soul are buffed for good amount. Regardless of how much haste you have, their base amount is still good. And that's why Copeland is the best trinket now.

Lack of shards is common, especially considering SB Haunt. I wouldn't make prediction for BRF, but right now it's an awesome talent with good concept and certainly is an alternative to DemServ, winning in some cases. Only problem is inconsistency.

If Blizz could address shard generation issue (talking both RNG and that Nightfall bug), that would be great.

Shards of Nothing is far better than Copeland's for Affliction, and Mythic shards is also the general favourite for Demonology too.

The passive Intellect just blows the passive Crit out of the water, and Haste stacking for Affliction provides very nice burst. You will still want to focus on Mastery on your gear, however.

SB:H in good gear is probably the best on every encounter pretty much, providing you aren't hitting enrage. Back when Mythic was released, Brackenspore was a 10 minute fight and Twin Ogron was 7 minutes. This made Demonic Servitude much more attractive. However if you're killing Brack and Twins in less than 5 minutes then SB:H is the way to go.

Same thing for Butcher and Kargath. If you're killing the bosses in like 3-5minutes then SB:H will pull ahead. A lot of this value comes from retaining the Terrorguard cooldown which hits like a truck, and that you start with 4 shards so can guarantee 100% uptime for at least the first 2 minutes or so. After that it's just a little bit of RNG.

On Ko'ragh too you can use the adds for plenty of shards.

On non Mythic Imperator I'd probably take Demonic Servitude still, but in 680+ gear and with all the adds on Mythic I think SB:H should win out. Can't really comment on that though since only gave it a few pulls as Affliction.

My experience with affliction so far is that in Highmaul gear and fights lasting 5 minutes or less go SB:H and Supremacy. Pop terrorguard during heroism.

If the fight is 5 minutes or longer, Servitude + Service is the way to go.

As for trinkets, Shards is superior to Copelands for affliction. I run mythic shard for affliction and demonology. That being said, I think Copeland's does beat normal Shards. Once you get heroic or mythic shards, use that + runestone.

I believe you got the point:

My doubt is beetween my actual config (QR H+SoN N) and a more "bursty" CC+SoN N expecially on shorter fights.

On Butcher H for example i hit 24K avg. dps with QR H+SoN N, GoSup and DS in about 4 minutes,

i'll try shortly a new config with CC+SoN N, GoSup and SB:H and see what happens
