Need help with Lock DPS!

6 posts in this topic

Ahoy hoy~!
I'm a co-raid lead and an officer over in my guild and we have a few of our dps lagging behind everyone else, I am hoping someone can look over the logs and tell me what the Amethystias is missing in her rotation.
Also, is it still worthwhile to be Destro or is it Demo all the way?

Tell her to come and ask herself, really.

Second hand info can get lost in translation.

Hey DemondNight, I'm fairly new as a lock and was actually thinking about posting one of these using my own data to see if anyone could spot areas for improvement. I took a look and from what I can see Amethystias is missing a few easy things to boost DPS a bit.

  • No potions used, should be pre-potting 1-3 sec before pull and then potting again during hero phase
  • Doesn't look like enough uses of Dark Soul to me. I always use it right away in my opener so I have the chance to use more in the fight.  She only used twice and she has the glyph (at last as of right now) to cut the cooldown in half on it, should have been able to use it at least 2x more in this fight.
  • Talent: For Kargath I would use Archimond's Darkness instead of KC since there is little movement. This would give an extra Dark Soul use.
  • I was going to say something about her using SoulBurn instead of more Chaos Bolts near the end of the fight but in researching it SB is the preferred spell. I'd maybe try getting more of those in and using Dark Soul to up the crit chance on those, they hit harder than CBs when they crit.
  • Talent: Not DPS related but more around survivability, I prefer Sacrificial Pact over Soul Link, gives a nice shield when needed.

I'll go on a bit harder than @Secretsauce. His points are absolutely right, though I got something to tell.

Dark Soul usage makes absolutely no sense. Not only he is messing his burn phases, but he simply doesn't use DS enough, overcapping the CD and losing his best damage cooldown to nothing.

Having no grasp on this simple basic gameplay feature, I'm in no surprise about Havoc and Shadowburn usages.
Twins fight - he used z-e-r-o Havoc on fight with 2 targets being absolutely constant. Absolutely the same story for Tectus. Bunch of targets = zero Havoc.
Brackenspore fight also logged as having zero Havoc and only one Shadowburn - it a fight with ridiculous possibilities of capitalising on those spells.

Talent choice frorm armoury has recorded Glyph of Havoc, which makes little sense in Highmaul, and Dark Soul glyph, which is debatably weak for Destro. I'd recommend getting rid of those two.

Excellent! Thanks Secretsauce and Parcel! This gives me at least an area to look to, not familiar with the cd's on a lock at all. ^_^

In addition to the points raised by Secretsauce and Paracel above, I'd also like to add the following:

Immolate uptimes should be 95% or better. Here were the Immolate uptimes for Amethystias:

Kargath Bladefist: 69.22%
Butcher: 81.89%
Brackenspore: 43.94%
Tectus: 41.37%
Twins: 34.18%
Ko'ragh: 52.66%

If she's not tracking her immolate properly, she should definitely get a Weakaura to help track that. See the Weakauras thread which is stickied in the Warlock forum.

      Who we are
<Hollow> is a semi-hardcore guild created by a group of friends, experienced players, that raided HC together in WOTLK. We reunited and transfered to the same realm to create a guild, or more accurately, a home. We keep a very friendly environment in and out of raids, oftenly joining discord to chat even if we aren't doing anything. Guild activities include but are not limited to mythic dungeons, mythic + and raiding.
      Our goals
Our current progress is 4/7M and 3/3HC. Our current goal is to down mythic EN to gear up and also prepare for Nighthold!
      What we are looking for
Recruitment currently closed for Mythic raiding with the exception of 1 Shadow Priest.
People that want only heroics can join regardless of specs. Socials are still welcome!
      Our raiding schedule
Our current raiding schedule is 3 raids a week for 3 hours:

Wednesday 8pm to 11pm server time - NH Normal
Sunday 8pm to 11pm server time - EN Mythic
Tuesday 8pm to 11pm server time - EN Heroic / ToV Heroic
The guild is using DKP system
NOTE: We have added a catch up system for new recruits. When you get past the trial phase and join the ranks as a raider of our guild, you also earn 200 dkp as bonus and when you prove yourself that you are worthy of a core spot, you also get 300 dkp as bonus. We wont leave anyone behind no matter how new while at the same time, drawing a line for our core, active raiders that have been with us since the start.

Hey yall! so i'm writing this because i just want to undesrtand something. my friend and i compared numbers today because we are both shadow priests albeit i have a higher ilvl than he does maybe by around 7 im sitting at 863 .
what happend was during the last fight we decided to do the same -ish rotations meaing we both had vamp touch and shadow pain up on the same boss at all times.
at the end of the fight i found something odd,
his vamp touch dealt 4.99m dmg with max hit at 315 and minimum
mine only dealt 3.71 with max hit at 335 but take this in, minimum hit at 17k LOLLL
another thing that got my attention
his max hit on mind blast was 512 k, while mine was only at 281k.
his crit and mastery stands at 20% and 40%, mine at 24% and 42%
his haste stands at 27 and mine stands at 24
can anyone explain this? at all? does it make any sense at all LOL
