Rocking in Blackrock - Rogues in BRF

Similar to the Highmaul Discussion thread, this is going to be a post for tips and tricks to playing a Rogue in Blackrock Foundry.

 

As before, I'll lay out what specs, glyphs, and talents I think are especially effective on the various boss encounters, and anyone who has anything to contribute is more than welcome to post it below to be added to the collection.

 

Gruul

 

Sub is a strong choice on Gruul due to the single target to hit. although a badly timed Overhead Smash proves really irritating it the boss turns to face you.

 

I recommend Elusiveness for the Inferno Slashes, and Burst of Speed to be able to move away with Petrify more easily. Since you'll constantly be standing on the side of the boss, I don't recommend Shadowstep.

 

If you play Sub you can drop the Hemo glyph for Cloak of Shadows for some more mitigation on the Slashes if you want - you won't have as much wiggle room with Rupture falling off, but since you don't need to change targets Hemo isn't strictly required.

 

You can also pre-cloak Petrification; if Cloak is up, you won't get the debuff

 

Oregorger

 

Subtlety is the way to go for this fight as well, given that everything is single target.

 

Be sure that you have Hemo glyphed for this fight so you can get the damage boost against the boxes.

 

Burst of Speed is probably best to dodge the rolls more easily, although it's not strictly necessary. 

 

Cloak of Shadows might work as 100% mitigation for the acid spew against the ranged camp, although I have yet to be put in a situation where I can test this.

 

Beastlord Darmac

 

This fight more depends on your job - if you're assigned to picking off the adds that constantly show up, then Combat is the way to go. If, however, you're not one of the people doing that, then Sub is probably your best bet. 

 

Elusiveness is good here too, since it will help mitigate a lot of the fire damage and act as a nice fallback if you get hit by the Leap.

 

For Glyphs, I suggest that you take either Feint, or Recovery. The choice between them really depends on what your raid is having trouble with on the fight, and will likely only be necessary for a few weeks until your healers are more geared. Due to the constant damage rolling in, every little bit helps as the fight rolls on, especially into the fire phase.

 

I have yet to confirm if the leap can be dodged through Evasion

 

Flamebender Ka'graz

 

Both Sub and Combat work here, although they're better at different parts. A lot of this fight is single target and it only changes which target you focus, but on Mythic there are a number of extra Fire Wolves that you can help cleave down quite nicely. I personally play Sub even on Mythic, because I'm able to constantly pump finishers into the appropriate target thanks to FoK

 

Shadowstep is nice for hopping over lines of fire when changing targets, and Elusiveness turns Feint into a nice cooldown for the Firestorm, so you can save your CoS for an emergency

 

Hans'gar and Franzok

 

I actually recommend Sub for this as well. The amount of time that both targets are in range is actually relatively small, and since Sub suffers less than Combat from downtime due to the effectiveness of Bleeds, you can DoT both bosses and focus more on staying alive than hitting the bosses every second.

 

Cheat Death is a great fallback on this fight, since getting hit by a stamp is almost certainly fatal. Burst of Speed is also nice to have, since it allows you just a little more mobility. 

 

If you use Sprint / BoS wisely and jump onto and off of the spaces between belts, you can maneuver around the room pretty quickly

 

Operator Thogar

 

Burst Cleave all over this fight means that Combat will show better results here. Blade Flurry + Killing Spree on a group of ads will skyrocket your damage, just be sure that Killing Spree doesn't set you down on an active rail.

 

Cheat Death is a nice safety net for this fight, and while this fight is more personal preference for your mobility talent, I still recommend Shadowstep.

 

Be sure to unglyph Killing Spree - you don't want it to set you down where you were, if the group had to move for a train. Getting run over is unhealthy.

 

 

The Blast Furnace

 

Combat loves everything about this fight. Lots of cleave with plenty of targets to hit, this fight is one giant cluster of enemies. Just make sure that you're close to full hp when you start Killing Spree, since you could end up over the grate in the floor and die to the damage

 

That said, if your raid needs more single target damage to kill the Elementalists in one go, Sub is viable as well.

 

Burst of Speed is great for running Bombs and Ruptures to the outside. I suggest running with Elusiveness on this fight, although you don't really lose anything by using Cheat Death.

 

Glyphing Killing Spree will be great for this fight, because you always want to return someplace safe when you're done bouncing around

I actually am really starting to enjoy Oregorger. With Burst of Speed and Feint spam, I can run around during roll phase and Rupture a ton of boxes the guild isn't yet touching which is insane for your damage and helps the team clear the boxes in general a bit faster (still need to get better w/ this... you can still die from the dmg if you LoS the heals too long). 

 

For Kromog, I'm still testing sub vs combat here. Here's my Heroic log from last week Combat @ 33k~ / ilvl 680 getting gripped by the hands like normal.

Point of note, Warcraft Logs is nicer and more user friendly. I'm not familiar enough with World of Logs to be much help there. 

 

That said, I'm also still up in the air about which to use for Kromog. I've been experimenting with Combat and MfD, which gives some nice cheese if I'm paying a lot of attention to the Hands of other players.

 

For Oregorger, I think that it's probably best  to stick with your assigned group. If there are boxes close by that you can go and get a bleed on then great, but controlled burst on the proper targets is a better use of your time imo. Differeny guilds use different strats though, so you aren't really doing anything wrong with that approach either

Yes - I've been lazy and the Guild runs the logging :) 

 

I still haven't ran MFD for much of anything, sort of a change resistance thing as I'm so comfortable w/ Anticipation. Any suggestions? Macro targeting a specific mob name, mouse-over? 

 

That may be better with Oregorger, yes. But now is the time for experimenting boyz!

I do mouseover for MfD, although I don't run it very often. Beastlord was fun to use it on, but otherwise the only one I tried it on was Kromag and I wasn't too thrilled with how it played. If you do ship side on Maidens it might be nice as well, but I stick on the main platform so I haven't tried it yet.

 

Don't like Combat too much on Kromog either, now that I have a couple more kills on it - assuming you know the safe spot to stand for melee, Sub is much easier to stand still and just train the boss for better dps

You can precloak petrifying slam and wont get a debuff. be sure that you have good reactions since the big wigs timer isnt on point after the first slam.

 

Furthermore, Blast Furnace ist all about killing the elementalists and the 3. phase. This is a Sub Fight, not a Combat fight.

As for Furnace, it depends what your job is - we have our Combat Rogue on adds since we don't need any more elementalist damage. He helps kick the Firecallers and cleave the security guards so we have less to worry about come P3

After getting my 4 piece, my combat single target is simming 2k over Sub. Goodbye sub offspec? sad.png

 

I might be doing some testing in Mythic just to make sure... but ShadowCraft hasn't done me wrong yet

Might just be your stat distributions and / or weapons. I'm still doing more as Sub single target, but I don't have a lot of Haste gear. If you're lacking a lot of Mastery or just have a lot of Haste it might explain things
