{Frost} DPS Help, Kicked from Guild Raid party

Recommended Posts

I use your advice here on Icy-Veins rotation for a frost mage. I usually get great dps on mobs leading up to the boss.  But my dps goes down hill while dpsing the boss fights.  I want to get back on the raid team, but need to improve my dps big time.

I prepot, flasked, and ate something before I began each of the fights.  I was practicing on the dummies (damage dummy) in my garrison.  I did a rotation for about 3 minutes and my dps was around 20k.  I waited for the global cool-downs to cool off.  Then I tried the same rotation and only got to about 15k.  I want to know what I am doing wrong.  Maybe somewhere in the mists of the rotation I missed something.  Fieryelf is my characters name, if anyone wants to go look at it on the armory.  If you need any other information I would gladly post it.

I wasn't sure what you needed from me since it's my first post on here.

Here's my Armory information: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/arathor/Fieryelf/advanced

My spell rotation is almost like one posted here on Icy Veins, I have looked at the Breaktheice's WOD Frost Mage Guide and tried some of his/her advice.  Made some macros did a little rearranging of things (spells).

I just feel like a mashing button's and I don't want that. I don't have any recent logs, since making changes.  I think I have to much Mastery and think I should go Arcane (but know some about being arcane).  If you can help me in that field of play I would change specs to Arcane (don't know the rotation).

I can't view that log for some reason, and i can't really say any more without looking at a log. Your gear looks fine; every secondary is perfectly good for frost, not as good as multistrike but certainly not bad enough to limit your dps significantly.

Can't see it either.

Try to upload them on warcraft logs (and choose a Gruul/butcher/Karghat fight rather than oregorger).

First of all, do not use Thermal Void as your t7 talent. It is very unreliable with low haste, and even a fully 695 geared frost mage probably wouldn't prefer it to prismatic crystal.

From the logs I got the feeling that you only used your frost orb once in a 4.34 long fight. Moreover you didn't use your mirror image at all.

So here you go: you missed 3 orbs, 2 mirror images and 2-3 prismatic crystals. That is a HUGE damage loss.

And by HUGE i mean really BIG. My experience of playing frost mage in this expansion tells me that we don't have as much of sustainable damage until ilvl~665-670. At least that is the feeling i got. A frost mage at this level is very effective at bursting, and that is what you are missing completely. But a good burst with a bad sustain constitute to an overall decent dps.

So my advice is: work on your opening sequences. Monitor your cooldowns constantly and use them effectively (which is basically on cooldown most of the time lol). Addons like TellMeWhen will help a lot with that.

Please, once again, upload your logs on warcraft logs, i am not sure if i can read ask mr robot properly. Were you really at 5k dps on Koragh?

went to the oggrons fight and i see you below 10k which is indeed very low.

I am not sure if i read this things properly but i see that you casted ice lance 73 times wheras your finger of frosts procced only 18 times, which means than you casted 55 times ice lance without finger of frost .

If this is true (and i stress it because i have no idea of how true this is), this should never happen, and you should cast ice lance only when you have a finger of frosts proc.

I guess the ice lance glyph must also play a role here since you must also hit the second oggron when you hit an ice lance. But still, that makes 18 FoF procs for 37 lances.

So if you are not doing this, you should have a good read of the frost mage guide which has been written here to have a better understanding of your DPS cycle, then practice on the dummy to see if you don't miss any cooldown or proc wink.png

Good luck!

But keep in mind, that not taking TV only applies to single target fights.... :)

Wrong. It's not like you can only make use of crystal on Butcher. You can profit from it during fights where you can find boss standing still for at least for 10 seconds once in a while. In fights with a lot of wave-based adds, like Darmak, it's even better to use the crystal, because for every crystal you are going to have an orb on top of it (improved blizzard). On Twin Oggron it's also good, because even though the damage is split between 2, the overall damage is the same as it would have been if it only hit 1, because they have shared health. You get the idea.

The only fight i personally spec TV instead is Blackhand, because this guy moves constantly.

Yes, I get your point, you are right about that. :)

The thing that I didn't like mainly, was the statement: "do not use TV!".

As you have also said, there are certain situations when it can be better than PC. :)
