[Unholy] Too much Haste?

14 posts in this topic

Hey everyone. I've been chatting with a DK friend of mine and he's concerned about his gear so far in WoD. He is sitting at 36.7% haste at the moment and a lot of the gear we are currently raiding for has even more haste. Should this be a concern for him as we're gearing up? He is at ilvl 655~ at the moment (we're still raiding HM and going to BRF in a couple weeks). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Link your armory for feedback.

But there isn't really anything you can do about it and it doesn't matter all that much. After all, top DK's were Unholy, even in Highmaul. It greatly depends on your performance and how fast you're able to react and think ahead. This will make a difference in your DPS and not "too much" haste.

Fortunately LOTS of the gear in BRF is loaded with multistrike and mastery which is what he should be shooting for.

We are not looking for feedback on his DPS (he's performing just fine) and we are aware of Unholy's status at the moment. We were simply curious if anyone else had encountered getting such high haste in the tier and if he should work to gear around haste for now, or just ignore it until we get to BRF.

On a side note, we were informed that the mediums we were using to compare to other DK's didnt take into consideration the 20% from Unholy Presence and that he should ignore the situation.

...yeah, I know what you're asking for. And linking the armory will help at getting a better overview of his stats.

And besides, what would you want to do, to "work around" too much haste from HM gear? It's fixed and you can't do anything about it, and crafted gear is pretty much useless, as you're going into BrF very soon. Let's not even talk about the price for it. The most you can hope for is gem slots and put Multistrike (or Mastery, if you're maining Necroblight) in it.

To answer your question as short as possible: kind of "yes", you can have too much haste, as it is your worst stat, but you can't work around it... tough luck, to be honest.

But you really shouldn't care anyway, since BrF gear is pretty much perfect for UH DK's. As mentioned, it boils down to how well you perform the rotation, in contrary to, for example, 2H Frost.

Highmaul gear is loaded with Haste, couple with Unholy presence he can reach 40%+ in full HM BiS gear, as soon as he start doing BRF and getting gear he will lose considerable amount of haste.

Yes, its normal as far as I can tell.  My Highmaul gear was loaded with haste out the wazoo.  Get into BRF, tons of great stuff there for UHDKs.

The Haste sweet spot is about 1000 so if you hit 1000 you are best off getting/chanting/gemming Mastery or Multistrike.

That's only for 2H Frost. You don't want Haste at all, as Unholy.

I stand corrected, you are right :)

Could someone please explain why haste is no good for UH. Haste gives you faster Timmy attacks and faster rune regeneration, while Crit may or may not give you bigger numbers. To me I would rather have a more reliable stat versus one that I have to pray to RNG to get use of.

Let's take a look at icy vein's interpretation of each stat and its effect:

Mastery, through wow_icon_achievement_zone_westernplaguel Mastery: Dreadblade, increases your Shadow damage. Shadow damage makes up a great part of your total damage.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.

Haste will increase your attack speed and rune regeneration rate.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.

Multistrike causes your abilities to have a chance to hit/heal a second and a third time, each time dealing 30% of the initial damage/heal.

I, personally don't feel any major downtime at any point in my rotation, so anything from use here is the increased attack speed. But let's face it, every other stat does offer simply more per point. Well, maybe someone can elaborate even further, but it's fairly simple, really.

EDIT: Let's not forget, that UH passively gains haste so it makes it even more unwanted.

It might depend on talent choices or current gear, but SimCraft has the stat priority like this : Multistrike > Mastery ~= Haste > Crit > Versatility. I obtained these results by simming myself on a Patchwerk - style encounter.

If it's of any use, here's my armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/sylvanas/Anf%C3%A1uglith/advanced

Edit: It definitely varies with gear, because after I got some new pieces the stat priority is : Multi > Mastery ~= Crit > Haste.

Simming for unholy isn't always the best looking at BRF. Once 6.1 hits I'll probably use NP+UB on every encounter (even on gruul/pacman because lazy), and then mastery will be the top stat in any scenario. You can't compare simming patchwerk to BRF in that case. Also, realize that a patchwerk fight means you absolutely don't have to do anything besides standing still and spamming buttons. In real situations every bit of movement you do, every defensive GCD you cast gives you some "free" rune regen. This devalues haste compared to sim values.

Also, if you are simming UB+NP, don't bother. The default sim profile isn't optimized, I'm outdps'ing it on Gruul as NP+UB by quite a margin while I'm by no means a top-bracket player.

[EDIT] to OP, don't stress on stat values for now. Seeing how he's only item lvl 655 the secondary stats don't really come into play yet as Highmaul Heroic gear gives him on average 15 item levels, which beats any mastery/multistrike 655 piece. My personal stat values to give me ingame ideas on gear upgrades is strength 100%, mastery 70%, multi 60%, other 3 stats 40%. This is even more of a difference than what simcraft gives me as stat values, so I did it just for myself to value drops abit better, and still 10 item levels with offstats usually beats bis stats.
