Unholy DK help, moving from defile to NP

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So i have some questions, and was wondering if you guys could help in analyzing what i could improve on with my NP rotation.

Now first thing to note is i'm not following the Necroblight spec to the letter, as i have plaguebearer as my t1 talent. That said, i was looking at my Iron Maidens parse from my guild kill of them last night, and noticed that NP was 30% of my damage on this fight. Is this normal?

Also Is Unholy Blight absolutely neccesary for NP build to work? The one time i tried it i had major issues managing my duration, and lost dps and awareness due to this.

The other main question is, to get my duration as high as possible, should i sacrifice 2 death runes on the first couple of rotations for festering strikes? or only use them as available.

Sorry if i'm posting in the wrong thread, but figured i'd start here

Unholy Blight is absolutely mandatory, that's the one talent that allowed Necroblight to be an option, after all...

It should be more than 30% of your overall damage, and as you need substationally more time to reach 15 stacks, you're doing a ton less damage. A good example is your log.

The rotation is very easy, to be honest. Here a suggestion how you would start an encounter:

1) Pre-pot + racials (and trinket)

2) Gargoyle (+trinkets, for example the scabard)

3) Outbreak

4) Pop UB in melee range (be sure to target either the boss or, for example on Blast Furnace, the add with the highest HP or least priority)

5) 2x Festering Strike

6) 2x Scourge Strike OR 2x Blood Boil, if there're atleast 3 targets (important)

From here on you'd follow the priority system. Which in itself is very easy aswell.

Does NP tick long enough to let UB get off CD?

1) Yes?

-> Use Scourge Strike on CD and Festering Strike on Frost and Blood runes, as they come off CD

-> OR use Blood Boil on CD, if there're atleast 3 targets in range (this is very big)

-> Use UB as it comes off CD, if NP doesn't tick anymore and proceed with 2x Festering Strike and then follow from 1)/2) again

2) No?

-> Use Festering Strike until NP's duration is equal or higher to UB's CD

-> Then continue with Scourge Strike or Blood Boil

3) Use Gargoyle (and trinkets) on CD

4) Use Death&Decay when there're atleast 2 targets in it for the full duration

And that's pretty much it. You could get a lot more in detail and perfect the FF:SS/BB ratio, but get used to the basic rotation first. Until then, good luck!

As of patch 6.1, there is almost no DPS loss from using 2 Death Runes on Festering Strike rather than on Scourge Strike, provided that NP is ticking. This should make it easier to keep NP running while Unholy Blight is on cooldown.

Chainsplit's comment explains the basics of the rotation very well, but if you want a more detailed guide about Necroblight, check out either Demonardvark's post on this forum or Skullflowers guide : http://hornofwinter.com/guide/
