[Balance] Blast Furnace Elementalist phase

I have two questions really, one is Boomkin based and the other one isnt.

 

1. I seem to have a DPS problem on the Primal Elementalists, we are supposed to nuke them and I am but its alot lower than everyone elses, im not sure if this is a boomkin issue or a player issue. Im putting down logs for each attempt

2. How does Volatile Fire from the firecallers work exactly, i seem to take an awful lot of damage from it but i can swear that i was at no point positioning myself within 8 yards of anyone else (at least not according to DBM radar).

I was told in the raid to be more careful but there is no way i positioned myself wrong so there has to be another cause. Maybe not everyone is getting the fire on him everytime or something.

1. Warcraftlogs has an uploader. Other than that your logs must be in wow/logs/WoWCombatLog.txt except if you or someone/something else deleted them.

2. Volatile fire is a debuff that's applied to you and has no effect (except visual) for 10 seconds. After 10 secods it explodes and deals some amount of damage (roughly 100k) to you and all players 8 yds around you. As a druid you should be using displacer beast. Idealy you want to blink away with <1 sec remaining, explode and then run back to group (if you're stacking up). If you're not stacking just follow dbm range radar.

Other than that you should use barkskin if you have it available, as it does reduce some damage.

I use Wilf charge and simply disengage, then position myself a bit until there is no one around me.. I keep an eye on the radar until that moment, if someone runs into me after that moment then its on them.

But even so, i still took more damage than most, is there a pattern or something with the firecallers? Do only a few get hit by volatile fire during the first spawn waves?

 

I should maybe take this question to the raid section :P

You will always take a lot of damage from Volatile Fire because you cannot avoid the damage from the debuff itself. You should always avoid the damage from other players as well of course, but the issue could be that you don't nuke the Firecallers fast enough (thus more Volatile Fire debuffs). Firecallers are priority #1 target during phase 2.

 

Boomkins should have a lot of nuke damage on the Primal Elementalists and should be on the top half of the charts on damage done on them. First of all, make sure to be Starsurge capped (3 charges) when the shield comes off. Second, make sure to DoT them up before the shield falls off as well. They're just immune to damage, you can still apply your DoTs. Once the shield falls off you spam single target damage on them, using your Starsurges and their empowerments. Forget all about Starfall and multi-dotting. Also try to conserve Celestial Alignment and Incarnation for this purpose rather than using it on cooldown. If the Primal Elementalists are dying in time every time, you can start to alter this and do more AoE damage (namely on the Firecallers).

So when the slag reaches 50% hp or so i should basically stop starfall and start dotting everything that doesnt have a dot already. Stopping starfall completely sounds like waste of DPS :P

Its not a waste of DPS. Its just where your priorities lies. As Shedim said, If you Raid has issues with killing primal elementalists in time, you should focus any damge to this target. If your raid mess up with those, you'll die....so forget all other targets around in this moment..

the day your raid has no issues with killing them you can continue Starfalling and Doting every target for maxDPS and much happynes :D

DPS is not a quality itself. You want to hit the right targets at the right time. Sure, you can keep Starfall rolling in phase 1 and be on top of the charts, but that does little good for your raid. A good boomkin would store Starsurge charges to quickly nuke the Operators and forget all about Starfall and multi-dotting in the meantime. Once the Operator gets off the chain, you can proceed with your AoE damage and use Starfall while keeping in mind that you want to pool up Starsurge charges for the next Operator. 

 

Just the same thing applies for phase 2. If single target damage is needed on priority targets, you stop multidotting and you stop using Starfall. Since you worry about your low damage on Elementalists, I'd assume your raid sometimes fail to nuke them down in time. If that is the case, you should know you have some of the best burst damage capabilities in the game. Here is a log of mine, that shows damage done to the only Primal Elementalist we decided to try and nuke down in one go (rest are killed with two slags each, thus nuke isn't required and I keep multidotting and starfalling sometimes)

I do nuke the operators and ignore and i am one of the ones who do the most damage on Operators, but for phase 2 i have a different set of mind because i felt like starfall in phase 2 doesnt go to waste because these adds should be killed pretty soon anyway, so during non-elementalist moments i keep starfall up 24/7 and i tend to fall short even though i try to keep 1 starsurge up.

But what ive learned is to ignore starfall and save my cooldowns (which i didnt before) for elementalist. I rather be the reason we beat a boss than topping DPS and failing, which is the reason im here in the first place :P
