Beast Mastery Rotation Weak Aura

Recommended Posts

Hi all:

New to these forums in general and first post on the hunter board.

I have spent the past few hours trying to develop a master Weak Aura for the Beast Mastery spec, something in the vein of Redfella's incredible Necroblight rotation helper for Unholy DKs. I main a 684 BM Hunter on Stormrage, but suffer from something known as suck—I am regularly plumbing the depths of my raid's logs, and am almost certain I will not be on our mythic roster until I can hit higher percentiles on logs—hence needing a WA crutch to help me prioritize those Kill Commands and not double up on BWraths.

I cannot take full credit for the Auras I'm posting below, so I will try to give credit where it is due before i ask this community for help with the fine-tuning.

1: Design inspired entirely by Redfella's Unholy helper

2: Beast cleave bar was modified from an aura developed by Adam Koebel at Blizzardwatch.

3: The "Buffs" aura is a modified version of Azortharion's Focus Fire aura (the backbone of any BM Hunter's rotation), with some other helpful alerts tacked on.

4. Focus bar I took off these forums.

The Auras:

BM Rotation Helper (priority inspired by Azortharion's guide):

Buff Group:

Focus Bar:

All three could use tweaking. Be kind, this is my first attempt at something like this.

Here's the thing: Redfella's WAs work because Unholy DKs don't have to do anything special for AoE, it's a built in part of necroblight. Where your WA will fall short is on AoE, because it is impossible for a WA to tell you that there are enough enemies within X yards to AoE, and thus won't.
There's also saving CDs for certain parts of a fight, such as pillars on mythic kromog, wolves on mythic flame bender, when to use deterrence on mythic gruul (immunity groups) and on flame bender in general (molten torrent), etc.
The other thing a WA cannot do is pet management. On Oregorger and Beastlord, managing where your pet is is vital to doing good. On oregorger specifically, your pet is going to run around like an idiot trying to run between boxes and them back to chasing oregorger and then back to boxes and Bak to oregorger, and so on and so forth. On Beastlord, the pet management can mostly be considered for padding reasons, since the goal of it is to get your pet close the the pack beasts with master's call and AoE them down with barrage (save barrage for pack beasts on mythic) and beast cleave.

Thanks for the reply Orthios. I understand that WA does a poor job for AoE rotations—I'm not looking to create something that will totally automate a fight for me, rather to do the best that I can given the limitations. One way I've tried to do this is have Dire Beast loading in conjunction with Arcane Shot as the focus dump for single-target fights, Multishot loading with Steady Focus for cleave fights. No addon can replace awareness of the encounter. You seem like you know what you're talking about, I'd love if you imported my strings and took them for a spin.

What I do want to do is make sure that my priorities are always correct—not dumping focus 2 seconds before Kill Command comes off cooldown, for example. I also want to minimize (or completely avoid) any periods of downtime, which is lost DPS for hunters. I imagine this could be useful to other people as well.

PS. Unholy DKs do have to go "off script" for Redfella's auras as well, substituting Blood Boil and dropping DnD at user's discretion for heavy AoE.

Ok, so I attempted to use this in a lfr earlier.  I used steady focus the entire thing because that's what I had from last night.  What I noticed:

  • No attempt to double-cast cobra shot to get the steady focus buff.
  • No mention of Arcane Shot.
  • Nothing appeared when I was >30 focus and Barrage and KC were on CD and beast cleave was up - I was waiting and doing nothing for a good 2-3s before something popped up.
  • This was, quite frankly, an unacceptable rotation, if you could call it such.

Thanks for the constructive criticism Orothios. Maybe I wasn't clear that I have no programming background, nor have I ever used Weak Auras to create my own stuff. Clearly you are the master of such things, if you ever decide to share such knowledge and recommend some tweaks, you can find me working here.

I will remind you that Redfella's auras didn't happen overnight. He had alot of helpful suggestions from the IV community to get them to RC status.

Actually, I have 0 experience with WA's.  The only WA I even use is a battle-rez monitor.  My monk uses a few more, but those have all been taken from sunnier.
