What makes a troll?

Recommended Posts

In the time I have spent playing WoW, I have learned all about trolls. I have developed this curiosity of what a troll does to make him or herself a troll. I know what bugs me in game and was wondering if it was the same for others. So please respond with what really pushes you over the edge to call someone a troll.

I think a lot of what constitutes a 'troll' is what memes are popular, and certain things in game, like [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker], and the like. Everyone's buttons get pushed in different ways, like you know what bugs you, but it could be totally different for me, and I wouldn't see someone as a troll that you see as a troll.

With that being said -- I hate 'kappa' and all that Twitch chat stuff. Just bugs me.

I am a resident on a relatively high pop realm. There is a guy in trade...and I wont mention his name, as it would just give him more credit...but this guy...

He would spam trade chat...no joke...ALL day. ALL. DAY. like it was his full time job.

He would intentionally ruffle people...and I assume people were affected in different way. He would brag about buying his pvp skill, which if you looked at achievs, could CLEARLY see he bought it. He would demean people constantly. He quite possibly was the most disliked and ignored player on realm. Well, people started reporting him. heavily.

He would come in with the same name with new ascii characters...and at some point was ignored by SO many people, he just started spamming chat group invites in wow. Even blocking these invites, in your general chat window would show he had invited you, but the invite was blocked. It got to the point that I reported this behavior, and was informed by GM that this character had so many reports that the college he was attending had been notified of his activities. His account looked as if it were banned.

He has come back...similar name...but doesnt do any of this shit he did before. He pushes people, but not the same way.

So...why does he do this? what joy does it bring? I dont know....i dont understand the mentallity, but having worked in the mental health treatment field, I can only assume its attention seeking/narcissistic behaviors.

Beard, that's insane. I've seen/known a few trolls on a few different servers that spent way too much time in trade chat. There was a time when i was probably one of those people that spent way too much time in trade, and had a few people block me, but I'm talking like so long ago it was back when people would block you just for using trade for non trade related stuff. But that guy sounds like he has some serious issues going on.
