wow Legion Alpha: UI Improvements!

1 post in this topic

While there are a huge number of improvements coming with the new expansions, Legion is going to be giving our standard User Interfaces a complete overhaul. Let's hope you won't need this many add-ons anymore. Check out the changes!

Transmogrification Changes

The field of fashion is changing in Warcraft! With the introduction of the new wardrobe feature, players can transmogrify their gear on the go. A large, picture based UI presents the possible appearances of gear that you can use, as well as those you haven't "unlocked".

Make sure you check out our previous post on the changes.

Profession Window

It looks like the profession window is getting a big overhaul; with a larger base area, you can now see a huge number more of the recipes, rather than having to just scroll down. Blizzard have also decided to display the "Unlearned" recipes in a tab, so you can take a look at those you still need to find in the world.

In Legion, certain recipes will receive "stars", denoting the level of the recipe. This will cause the recipes to require less materials as they rank up.

Health Bars

gLLFaZz.jpg 0c4rnJQ.jpg?1

The health bar display has been streamlined and made to look far simpler for enemies. They are still displayed above the enemy's head, but have been given a proper re-working.

The player's health and resource bar has been added in a smaller form in the middle of the screen, in order to keep the information closer to the player's field of view. This is an amazing addition for PvPers that don't want to use add-ons. A simple, streamlined display that is not as large as the main health display.

Directional Indicators

A completely new addition to the game, Blizzard has answered the cries of melee DPS; we now have an indicator that displays exactly where an enemy is facing, thereby allowing much easier positioning in regards to abilities that require us to be behind the enemy.

Combat Text

The combat text has finally received an upgrade, with the old, pixelated text being replaced by much crisper text. Twitter user @BendakWoW posted this image in an attempt to display the difference between the new and old text:

New Quest Dialogue Interface

For those of you that might have been using the add-on Storyline, this is going to be a great addition. There will be these small text windows when you are completing a large storyline quest, such as the Artifacts. The portrait next to the text will be animated.

A detailed preview of encounters & loot tables.
Find out how exactly the new Karazhan differs from the old one.
Unannounced visitors, preparations must be made. *sips tea*
Patch 7.1 marks the return of Karazhan as a five-player dungeon (or even "raid"). It's available in Mythic only, with difficulty being slightly above regular Mythic dungeons. Requires attunement to enter. To get attuned, Khadgar will offer you a new quest in Dalaran. Involves many Mythic dungeons. Features a total of 8 (potentially nine) bosses that drop loot of item level 855+ (with the ability of all the gear to be Warforged/Titanforged). It's highly likely that Nightbane is Karazhan's secret 9th boss. More information available here. Attunement
The attunement questline for Karazhan primarily involves Mythic dungeon content.
Ion Hazzikostas also confirmed the required 850+ item level followers for attunement to be wrong. It's an investigation mission associated with Karazhan that will award bonus loot. The mission itself requires followers with a minimum item level 850. Upon completion, you'll receive an item to start the quest line in Deadwing Pass.

The updated Karazhan encounters are a blend of old and new bosses giving the dungeon the proper "Legion feeling". Now, if you remember the old ones, you're pretty familiar with the abilities.  You can find a total of 8 bosses here:
Maiden of Virtue She will periodically place patches of Sacred Ground underneath players which will slowly expand and inflict damage to players who enter. Later she will cast Mass Repentance, which places a stun on the entire group that breaks on damage taken. Then, she protects herself with Holy Bulwark, which players must damage her to remove, and cats Holy Wrath, which players should interrupt after removing Holy Bulwark. Opera Wikket Avoid Galindre's Magic Magnificient by using vortices left over from Elfyra's Defy Gravity. This is a standard fight with bosses and adds. Healer should expect a spike in healing should their tank stand in Wondrous Radiance. For damage dealers add management should be priority as they should be killed off asap. Westfall Story There's an ability called Thunder Ritual, which requires you to move away from the group when it's about to expire. Tanks should back up when Toe Knee casts Burning Leg Sweep to avoid a stun. Damage dealers should defeat the Gang Ruffians and Shoreline Tidespeakers first to reduce the danger to your party. Beautiful Beast Don't lead Babblet through Burning Blaze to prevent her from gaining Sultry Heart. Use Drenched to clear up Burning Blaze if it gets out of hand. Damage dealers should focus on interrupting Luminore's Heat Wave to help their healers as the ability can be deadly. Tanks should interrupt Cogglestone's Dinner Bell whenever possible and be careful when he's about to use Dent Armor. Attumen the Huntsman He fights from the saddle until Midnight is at 50%. Then, they will both fight separately for a short time. Midnight will regain her Health and the fight will commence with the boss attacking from the saddle again. There's an ability called Intangible Presence which requires a dispel. Mighty Stomp will interrupt all casting. The whole group should be stacked at the tank, because of the Shared Suffering ability that would one-shot him otherwise. The damage is shared and evenly distributed to all stacking players. Moroes Uses Garotte to spread damage across the party. Tanks should worry about an ability called Coat Check that reduces they armor by 75%. Use your defensive cooldown when this is up. Moroes has lots of dinner guests and at 60% he makes them immune to any CC abilities, which is why damage dealers should focus on downing them before he hits the threshold. Ghost Traps spawn across the room and you should trap dinner guests in there. It makes them incapacitated for 1.7 minutes. The Curator A fight revolving around the boss casting spells on everybody, whereas at 10% he becomes vulnerable as he quickly recharges Mana. During this phase, he's damage taken is increased by 100%. He deals heavy damage with Overload. The boss summons bolts of Volatile Energy that deal heavy damage to the group and should be taken down by damage dealers asap. Tanks should be using their damaging area of effects strategically, as the boss has an ability called Power Discharge, which creates pools of lightning that damage anyone who stands in them. Shade of Medivh Is the replacement for Shade of Aran Medivh will periodically assault enemies with Piercing Missiles, Inferno Bolt and Frostbite until he reaches full Mana. Then he starts using one of his Focused Power abilities. Damage dealers should interrupt Frostbite whenever possible and kill the 3 Guardian images quickly. These inflict heavy groupwide damage until killed. Piercing Missiles inflict heavy damage to the tank so it's a good time to use a defensive cooldown. Medivh will cast Flamewreath and it's super important for everybody to entirely stop movement for its duration. Mana Devourer He attacks foes with various AoE abilities. He will periodically Coalesce Power during combat, expelling all of his Mana, creating Loose Unstable Mana. Players need to collect Loose Mana and clear the stacks in Energy Void before the Mana reaches the Devourer. Failure of this mechanism leads to an entire party wipe. Viz’aduum the Watcher Karazhan's last boss is a three-phase fight. During the first stage, the boss will periodically command the nearby legion ships to assault his enemies. Healers and damage dealers should lead the Fel Beam away from the party during the initial phase. During phase two (at 66%), he will retreat to the nearby Fel Beam Command Ship. Avoid taking damage from the ship's Bombardment. While on the boat, make sure to avoid being knocked off by Disintegrate. At 33% the third phase starts and the Viz'aduum retreats to the nearby Bombardment Command Ship and calls in allies from the Rift above. In the final phase, damage dealers and tanks should prevent Stabilize Rift from completing as this will greatly increase the amount of reinforcements. Loot Tables
Below, you'll find Loot Tables. The last three bosses drop 860+ gear.

Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King is returning and there are plenty of new pets to claim or sell if you don't care about pets that much.
The pets will be very valuable to pet collectors and sell for lots during the first days of 7.1 that's why they are worth the farm. With the quantity of pets increasing, prices will be decreasing, so you should try to sell them asap.
      Farming Route
All pets can drop from WotLK raids. If you're still farming raids for Mimiron's Head, Invincible's Reins, transmogs or even nostalgia, the pets can add your weekly farms more value.
      Efficient Farming Route
Assuming you'll end up in Dalaran, it's best to farm in the following order: Icecrown Citadel > Trial of the Crusader > Ulduar.
Below is a list of pet drops to make it a little easier.
      Icecrown Citadel
Lord Marrowgar: Boneshard Deathbringer Saurfang: Blood Boil Professor Putricide: Blightbreath Sindragosa: Soulbroken Whelpling The Lich King: Drudge Ghoul & Wicked Soul Trial of the Crusader
Icehowl: Dreadmaw Anub'arak: Nerubian Swarmer Ulduar
Ignis the Furnace Master: Magma Rageling Razorscale: Ironbound Proto-Whelp Iron Council: Runeforged Servitor Auriaya: Sanctum Cub Hodir: Winter Rageling Freya: Snaplasher Mimiron: G0-R41-0N Ultratonk Yogg-Saron: Creeping Tentacle How Do I Sell Pets?
Learn them, find them in your Pet Journal > right-click a specific pet and pick  > "Put in Cage". After that the pet can be sold in the Auction House.
      Maximizing the Output
If a certain pet doesn't drop, don't worry, you can farm the raids on all your characters. It's easy to clear them even at Level 90.

      J. Allen Brack gives us an update on the Classic Server situation.
It would seem that among all the great news coming with patch 7.1, some bad news snuck in as well (at least for some players). After the big recent uproar over Classic Servers and whether Blizzard will ever make them available to players, it seems we'll have to wait for any news regarding their eventual availability (or lack thereof) until after Blizzcon.
      J. Allen Brack
      Hey everyone,

We’ve seen some talk among the community that you might be expecting to hear some news on legacy servers at BlizzCon, and we just wanted to take a moment to let you know that while we’re still discussing the possibility, we won’t have any updates to share on that until after the show.

These past few months we’ve been laser-focused on the launch of Legion and getting Patch 7.1: Return to Karazhan ready to go (it’s almost here!), as well as prepping for BlizzCon—which is always a huge undertaking itself. You’ve heard us say that the launch of Legion was just the beginning of the story we want to tell in this expansion. What we will focus on at BlizzCon is how the team is committed to making sure we bring you a steady stream of content going forward, and we can’t wait to share what’s next for Legion.

Thanks for your patience, and we’ll see you at BlizzCon.

-J. Allen Brack and the World of Warcraft development team In case you missed the whole story behind why this topic has been around so much recently, here's a quick summary:
It all started with Blizzard shutting down the Nostalrius "Private" server since it was illegal, but because it and others like it are the only way players can play in Vanilla conditions, there was an outcry from its fans.  Blizzard decided to meet with the Nostalrius team and talk about the issue, after a pretty large petition was signed in favor of Vanilla/Classic servers being made official options for WoW. Then former Wow lead developer Mark Kern also got involved, drafting a letter and personally delivering the printed out petition to Mike Morhaime and had a meeting on the subject.
The end result of all of that was a "we will see/we are looking into it" message from Blizzard, and more specifically a lot of mentions of "pristine" servers, aka servers with all the XP buffs that have accumulated throughout the expansions removed.  So, we'll have to wait a bit longer for any resolution on the matter, but the subject is always a controversial one, as any mention of "how good Vanilla was" gets interpreted as an attack on the game as it is now, camps form up and it starts getting ugly.

This applies to every spec for every class other than Death Knights and Demon Hunters. Examples: Druids below level 10 now use Wrath and Moonfire as their primary damage abilities, rather than Shred and Ferocious Bite. While Smite will still be the first spell given to Priests at level 1, the added absorb shield effect will be an upgrade learned by Discipline at level 36, as the purpose of that effect is to add to healing in group content. Rogues will start leveling with an ability that attacks with one weapon and generates one combo point.
