Raider dummy dps 42K in 482 gear??? HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I see these dps videos of affliction warlocks hitting well over 50k in gear levels much lower than mine on the dummies, but I'm nowhere near that. It doesnt make sense. I have the rotation down just fine, ss...ss...ce...haunt...mg...etc....reapply dots when lightweave and or http://www.wowhead.c...t-of-the-cosmos pops. I will even use the jade serpent pot just to see if that will have a huge effect and it doesn't. I have rotation down solid, but something must be seriously wrong for me to have such low dps on dummies.

Anyway....any help would be appreciated.

Can't tell if you're performing your rotation well or not based on your profile. You need to provide logs for proper analysis. Be aware that Affliction scales well with gear, very well, infact, and as such, it performs sub-optimally at your item level. It also has the most complex playstyle of all the Warlocks, so you might see a performance change if you were to switch to Destruction. 42k and 50k are both rather abysmal DPS goals at 463 ilvl, let alone 482.

Yeah....about that...

how do you manage only one drain soul execute on a boss that has at least 3?

Looks you're doing AoE on a single-target fight from the amount of SoC's. Also lots of MG's and Haunts not lining up, probably a result of previously mentioned issue. If you want to improve you're going to need to really nail down the playstyle and quirks of affliction while also researching how to do optimal dps for specific encounters.

@Gravy, How do you bring up that lil bit of info on the bottom of your pic which shows buff specific proc times and whatnot? Is that part of being a subscriber to WoL or do you just have some serious skills?Posted Image

EDIT: Figured it out!

Karb i'm going to respond to your PMs here since it's better to get more eyes on this, and i'm hoping that i'm steering you in the correct direction...having it put here allows someone more knowledgeable than me to chime in and make sure we're both in the know.

Thank you for looking me up and looking at my wol logs. But before I work on raid dps, I'm just trying to figure out why dps on training dummy is so low. I have 482 ilevel (bad boots though...450) and if I can't get decent dps on dummy....I'm just done then

First off, when you're looking to get higher DPS on the dummy, what are you comparing your DPS to that makes you think it's low?

are you comparing it to a website that lists how well every class does at a training dummy, or are you comparing it to how you see other people perform in a scenario/5man/lfr/10man?

The thing is, affliction has two aspects to it that hinder proper evaluation from a dummy.

the first is attrition.

at·tri·tion

/əˈtriSHən/

Noun

The action or process of gradually reducing the strength or effectiveness of someone or something through sustained attack or pressure.

Affliction doesn't burst. it's not BOOMPOWZAPKABLAMMO

its a slow, methodic, rhythmic dance of death. So while you can work on your rotation on a dummy....getting used to the ebb and flow of the playstyle...you're not going to really get a feel for the full effect of damage...because the dummy is an unending foe

which bring me to the second aspect

Drain Soul Execute

Since dummies don't die, you're not seeing one of most soul crushing spells. That last 20% on a boss is

. this is where we pop what's left...bring out a doomguard, drink a potion, hope there's a bloodlust around, and go full tilt boogie for those remaining few moments. affliction dps will s k y r o c k e t

but on a dummy....you'll never see that. it'll never get close to dying. you'll never get to work on the most important part of the rotation and you'll never get to see what you're truly made of

so...you want your DPS to be higher....but you don't want to use a raid environment set of logs to use as a benchmark...

i don't know if there's any helping with that.

I like the way you talk Gravy.

Karb. Do some LFR's and snatch some logs from there. It's a great environment to improve your game. You've got buffs and you've got mechanics, albeit mechanics that have been nerfed into the ground.

Thank you all so much for your input. I'm really just trying to be helpful in raids and not be "carried'. Im going to do some raids this weekend and I'll grab a log or two. But the reason I originally posted was a saw a couple videos on you tube of aff. warlocks on target dummies and they were doing 60k dps on training dummies with less gear and I knew I wasn't close to that so I thought I may be completlely missing something. Again, thanks for looking and responding and here is the log with public access http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-dv4vg4u3fprxhq2u/

Your logs are...well...

Bring some logs from your raid. The logs you linked are about as useful as a bottle of water while drowning. Joking aside, there's no measureable way to see if you're playing correctly with a log where you were idle, but in combat, for 70% of the time.

Haunt timing is super key. If you want to get to 60k DPS on dummies then that's where a majority of it comes from. All about the Soul Shard management. Try not to waste Haunt on DoT's that aren't buffed unless you're overflowing with SS's.

you mean a video like this one?

http://youtu.be/WEsgLc_Y1Rw

where the DPS was done 4 months ago? is that what you're comparing yourself to? pre 5.2 numbers?
