Trinkets: Volatile Talisman of the Shado-pan assault

3 posts in this topic

5.2 Shadow Priests:

Need help with this one. Why exactly is the 522 Volatile Talisman of the Shado-pan Assault, which provides a haste value just above than your haste break pt and essentially doubles your haste more than 2x, is valued less than the 522 Wushoolay’s Final Choice, which, at best through reforging, provides 500 haste .

Yes, Intellect gains this trinket provides equates to nice spell power, but Haste is king for shadow, is it not?

From my research from world of logs, all top dpsing spriest have Volatile Talisman of the Shado-pan Assault equipped. Why is there such a disconnect between what people playing actually using and what the “Theory-craft” online states?

Someone help clear this up

Lots have happened since yesterday. We pugged another, very similiar ilvl spriest into our group, and on a single target boss fight, I got beat. I was stacking Haste and mastery past 2nd haste cap prior.. without yet having my legendary meta or lei shen trinket. While he stacked crit and mastery past 2nd haste cap. Though he had his 2 set bonus and I did not, he beat me cleanly by 10k damage. I've since reforged to crit and mastery, and dropped the volatile trinket for wushoolay.

Lesson of the story folks. Listen to the theorycraft. Thought I'd follow up to this and admit to this pie in the face moment to help other spriest out and clear up any potential confusion.

A bit more information:

  • We both were specc'd in insainity and Power Infusion
  • The boss fight was Dark Animus
  • Will follow up next week once my guild hits Dark Animus again to report my numbers. I'll be able to assess my re-speccing differences on our farm bosses as well.

I've spent a good deal of time looking into this trinket issue, and from What I've researched, having any of the T15 trinkets as an spriest, requires you to change your stat priority from crit > haste to haste > crit because of the effect haste has on proc rate.

Wushoolay's Final Choice especially is tied to your haste. At 18% haste, the uptime rate for me was only %... at 27% haste the uptime rate jumped to 40%, which is a truly massive increase in damage from that trinket alone.

Breath of the Hydra has an equally significant increase uptime from 21% to 39%.

Volatile Talisman procs are not effected by Haste increases.

      Critical Strike: 27%
      Haste: 33%
      Mastery: 29%
I'm using "Legacy of the Void."
Any stats I should bring up or lower in relation to each other?

Celestial Being is recruiting to round out our mythic roster. The core of our team has Mythic experience including top 50 US experience. Mythic experience is preferred, along with current logs. We raid on a brief schedule and expect people prepared to progress.
      Current Needs:
      Priest - All Specs
      Shaman - Elemental/Enhancement
      Druid - Feral
      Paladin - Ret
Exceptional players of all classes will be considered, feel free to discuss.
      Please contact for more information.

Nothing To Lose is recruiting exceptional players for Mythic Emerald Nightmare and Legion progression.
Raid times are 7-11pm Central Standard Time on Wednesday and Friday nights.

We are mainly interested in Ranged DPS at the moment, however
we are always willing to accept talented and experienced raiders.
The following classes would be highly preferred:
      -Mage (Fire)
      -Priest (Shadow)
      -Druid (Balance)

For Mythic content, we expect our raiders to be consistent both in their attendance and performance. We are a generally laid back and sarcastic crowd, but our 20 spots will be filled by those who:
-Show up on time with full consumables
-Know the ins and outs of their class
      -Know the boss mechanics
-Push their numbers to highest possible in their spec.

<NTL> has been on Cho'Gall since the Burning Crusade, and we intend to be around through Legion and beyond. Join us for some !@#$-talking, meter-whoring, and good old-fashioned purps.

The easiest way to apply is to contact myself (GM) directly via PM or in-game mail.

I have now, 4 trinkets that I am conflicted on using as they all seem to have decent stats and usages/passives. I am mainly tanking mythic dungeons, although our guild does normal EN but I have no problem there.
What do you think would be the best 2 to use in general?
      I have the following:
      Goblet of Nightmarish Ichor
      What do y'all think?

      Hello guys,
I play Fury Warrior and I'm having a dilemma in trinket choice. So far I have been using heroic version of Ursoc's Rending Paw and ilvl 845 Nightmare Egg Shell. Today I got HC Warforged (ilvl 875) Ravaged Seed Pod from Nythendra. According to the icy-veins guide and simcraft, the ravaged seed pod is worse than nightmare egg shell, but there is a huge difference between ilvl. I think I do higher dps with egg shell, but should I sacrifice it for ilvl boost from 857 to 859? I would appreciate any advice.
EDIT: I know the best trinkets are Chaos Talisman and Faulty Countermeasure, but I haven't been lucky on drop yet.

Thanks in advance for your replies :-)
