wow Gold Making: Children's Week

1 post in this topic

As there are no new trade-able items for this years event it is business as usual for Children's Week.  Time to get cooking and grab those battle pet quest rewards!

The intention of this guide is to help you earn gold both during and after the event.  If you would like a comprehensive guide on the event itself and the associated items and achievements then check out our full guide HERE.

2016: First and foremost my apologies for not having the guide available for the event launch!  Sadly real life got in the way this weekend so it's a little late!  As far as I can tell there are no new additions for 2016 (other than the Bind on Pickup inv_misc_throwingball_01.jpgYellow Balloon) so let's get stuck in and make some gold!

Children's Week doesn't tend to offer a great number of different ways of making gold.  The majority of the opportunities are through both cooking and battle pets.

Important things to note:

  • The event only lasts for one week
  • Being able to travel around the World easily will help save a lot of time if you wish to complete the pet quest chains

In previous years I have managed to make a lot of money through cooking items that are linked with the Children's Week achievement inv_misc_food_31.jpgBad Example.

If you have managed to farm / buy some cheap inv_egg_01.jpgSmall Egg and inv_egg_01.jpgNorthern Egg over the past few weeks you should be able to turn a fairly hefty profit.

There are two cooking recipes that you can make, these are:

Tasty Cupcakes

inv_valentineschocolate01.jpgTasty Cupcake x 5:

2x inv_misc_food_wheat_01.jpgSimple Flour (cooking vendor) 1x inv_egg_01.jpgNorthern Egg

Delicious Chocolate Cake

inv_misc_celebrationcake_01.jpgDelicious Chocolate Cake:

8x inv_misc_food_wheat_01.jpgSimple Flour 4x inv_drink_milk_01.jpgIce Cold Milk  4x inv_misc_food_wheat_02.jpgMild Spices 1x inv_potion_12.jpgFlask of Stormwind Tawny 3x inv_jewelry_talisman_03.jpgMageroyal 8x inv_egg_01.jpgSmall Egg

Chances are there will be a lot of competition on the auction house with these items.  Depending on the number of eggs you have bought or farmed it may be worth selling the raw eggs themselves as well as the cooked food.  The chocolate cake recipe is pretty rare as well don't worry if you can't make the cake yourself.  Sell the raw mats or try and find a guild member / friend who isn't interested in making gold and have them craft them up for you!

It is possible to sell some of the vendor bought items such as the inv_misc_food_153_doughnut.jpgDalaran Doughnut and the inv_misc_food_145_cake.jpgLovely Cake.  Players are notoriously lazy - so make it convenient for them by buying a few stacks and putting them onto the auction house.  you will be amazed at the prices you can charge!

If possible with all of these items don;t try and flood the auction house.  Try and sell a few at a time and only list them for 12 hours.  Small and often is the best course of action here.  They will probably get undercut quite quickly so check when you can and ensure yours are the cheapest on the auction house when you can!

*Hint* I list my eggs on a character that I rarely use for auctions and check frequently with the remote auction house (via the WoW mobile app).  A bit overkill for some but can get you sales if you aren't able to login at your desktop!

Battle Pets

Of the 10 available pets from the event, 8 are trade-able.

As outlined in our full event guide, there are 3 quest chains.  The rewards from Stormwind/Orgrimmar/Outland quests you can sell and the pets from the Northrend questline are not trade-able.

It goes without saying that the more characters that you can complete the quest chains will

The price for each pet will vary depending on your server population.

I highly recommend utilising the website before you complete your quest chain to give you some indication as to which pet is more valuable on your particular server.

If you are on EU servers click here to find your realm.

For US servers click here to find your realm.

From the above links you can then search for the pet prices for all of the Children's Week pets to see which is potentially the most profitable.  Make sure you filter the results by "Source" to get a quick snapshot of all World Event: Children's Week pets.

As an example, the below picture shows the prices of the pets before the event.  The left hand column (bold text) is for level 1 pets the right hand column (faded) is for level 25.

Remember, the prices will drop during the event itself so don't get too discouraged if they seem a little low if you are searching during the event.

The information below helps to explain how I level and sell my pets.  It is not specifically for the event or for the event pets themselves but more of a general explanation of how I try and get the most money for the pets that I trade.

Typically the Children's Week pets sell pretty well throughout the year so I recommend having a little read if it is something that interests you.

If you aren't very interested in pets (I appreciate not everyone is) then treat it as you would any other seasonal item and try and wait until the event has ended to sell your pets.  They definitely will sell at green and level 1 at the right price!

If you do want to learn a little more about selling pets read on! If not skip to the "PvP" section!

Selling Battle Pets

As the event deals with a lot of battle pets (and is the main source of income for this event) I wanted to try and go into a little detail about pets and pet selling.  I will be completing a comprehensive pet guide in the very near future which will also have some of my own personal TSM profiles included!  In the meantime this should give you a little bit of information on how to maximise your gold with the pets you can acquire during Children's Week!

Uncommon or Rare? Level 1 or 25?

One of the most frequent questions that I am asked is at what level / quality I sell my pets.  There is a market for pets of all levels and quality, however you are most likely to see pets at uncommon (green) level 1 or rare (blue) 25.

At this moment in time I only trade in rare quality level 25 pets.  The main reason for this is the fact I can demand a much higher price compared to selling at uncommon and level 1.  This obviously requires a little effort but as a very general rule of thumb I "add on" 5k for the leveling and upgrading process.

I know a number of pet sellers that deal solely in level 1 uncommon quality pets who also manage to earn a great deal of gold so it depends if you prefer high volume sales (level 1 uncommon) or premium prices (level 25 rare).

How Can I level and upgrade Quickly

Previously, upgrading your pets quality was fairly difficult and / or expensive.  However in Warlords of Draenor you can purchase an upgrade stone for 15 Pet Charms from your garrison pet menagerie vendor.  These can be obtained through completing the pet dailies in your garrison.

If you are new to battle pets then don't worry, it is honestly easier and quicker to get started than you may think.

Check out my Garrison Pet Menagerie guide here to find out more.

It takes me around 10 minutes to level my pets from 1-25 and as I complete the dailies regularly I have a number of pet charms at my disposal to upgrade my pets to rare quality.

Selling Pets

Pet prices can fluctuate heavily depending on your server population and region.  My "5k rule" isn't feasible on some realms (generally high pop servers) so you may have to scale down your profit or come to the conclusion that it just isn't worth your time to sell them at rare 25 (even with the power leveling methods I use).

Be careful when using auction house addons as some can't distinguish between levels or quality.  I have bought a great deal of bargains as players undercut green level 1 pets with their rare level 25's so don't make this mistake.  Don;t be afraid of manually listing them (especially if you only have a handful to sell).

If you are active on a number of servers remember that you can cage and relearn pets and re-cage them on another server,  So research which realm has the best prices and sell on that realm instead! allows you to compare multiple server prices at once so use that as a quick snapshot to give you an indication of prices!

Lastly, don't forget it will take quite a while for these pets to sell so if you can, hold out for higher prices in around 6-9 months time unless you are in desperate need of gold!

As with a number of other achievements in game right now it is possible to "sell" your skills if you are good enough.  Children's Week includes the achievement ability_hunter_beastcall02.jpgSchool of Hard Knocks, which for players that don't "do PvP" can be a horrible horrible experience.

If you are confident in your own abilities (or have a small group of you that can complete the achievement as a team without too much bother, I have known players to purchase boosts so they can have a trouble free achievement.

Prices again will vary depending on your own server or how much you value your time, but if you are PvP orientated it may be worth while with a few barks in trade chat offering your services!

Wrap Up!

This concludes my seasonal event guide to Children's Week.  As you can see it is dominated by battle pets for the most part but there is still plenty of time to get your achievement_profession_chefhat.jpgChef's Hat on and get making some gold!

Good luck!

Senior Game Designer Jeremy Feasel tweeted that there are more hidden items that the community hasn't discovered yet in Legion's initial Patch 7.0.
Muffinus has been teasing us over at Twitter that there are more hidden items that are yet to be discovered aside from Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph, Kosumoth the Hungering or Hidden Artifact appearances.
It could be something related to Shoe Shine Kit as there is a chest that periodically spawns, but can't be opened in Dalaran's Photonic Playground (44, 47) next to Sheddle Glossgleam's shoeshine seat. The chest spawns facing the wall and can't be opened.

What we know so far (based on various Wowhead comments and observations):
The chest spawns at early Sundays - 12 AM (PST) / 3 AM (EST) realm time - and despawns after two hours. During these two hours Sheddle Glossgleam goes drinking in Dalaran's Legerdemain Lounge. A coffee presser and two coffee grinders can be used in the Lounge at all times. I tried to click them in every possible sequence when he was drinking coffee like crazy,  but nothing happened. There's also an empty flower pot on the bar. The npc doesn't sell any other items apart from his usual inventory. There are no chat references that could give us any hint. Talking to other NPCs at the Lounge does nothing. His brother Shandy Glossgleam doesn't have any chat lines and is upstairs out on the balcony. Pick Pocket or Pick Lock don't work as the target is Friendly. Spectral Sight doesn't work. If you get the Shiny Shoes buff, the chest can't be opened and no interaction options become available. A similar chest to Sheddle's is near the art dealer, but you can't click it. Shoe Shine Kit Tracking Quest & 7.0 Dalaran - Shoe Shiner Disappear could be somehow tied to the whole event. Let's unravel the mystery!

      Classes Needed:
      Resto Shaman
      Resto Druid
      Balance Druid
      Shadow Priest
Always looking for exceptional DPS of any class.

      About Us:
We are a guild, made up of former members of <Red Shift> and <Casually Addicted>, on Bleeding Hollow (PvP Server on a Chicago Datacenter) that have a common goal and will do what is necessary to achieve it. We are Shifty Casuals.
We are a group of professional adults, who believe success in raiding doesn't correlate to number in days/hours you spend raiding. We are starting a fresh page within our guild history and sticking to a 3 day a week raid schedule.
We don't tolerate elitism, bigotry, misogyny or any of the like. We enjoy our calm, adult environment and have no qualms with protecting it.
We do loot council which is fair and distributes loot for the progression of the raid as a whole and not an individual player. No favoritism, no loot drama.
We have our sights set on top 100 US for Legion and are looking for like-minded individuals to join our ranks.

Raid Days and Times (All times in EST as that is our server time):
      · Tuesday 8:45pm-11:45pm
      · Wednesday 8:45pm-11:45pm
      · Thursday 8:45pm-11:45pm

      Who We Want:
Since we are reforming and building for the expansion now is a great time to get in on the ground floor and clear content with us, while prepping for the new expansion. These are some key traits that we are looking for:
      · Someone who understands that 3 nights a week raiding means that you need to bring your A-game each and every night. Attendance is expected to be near 100%. By committing to raid, you are committing yourself to our raiding schedule.
      · The ability to perform under pressure. We only recruit impressive players, and spots are always competitive.
      · Extensive class knowledge of your class. (IE: Alpha/beta testing, keeping up with theorycrafting, properly gemmed/enchanted, always be up to date on the intricacies of your class (not solely your spec(s)) and on the utility of the entire raid group.)
      · A computer that can handle 20-30 man raiding and the ability to communicate via VOIP when needed. You must have a working headset and mic, and you must be prepared to use them. We will not read chat during boss fights. Inability to give a vocal response will not be tolerated as it directly hinders progression.
      · Tough skin. We're always looking to improve ourselves as should you. Constructive criticism is encouraged, but flaming and insulting is not tolerated whatsoever.

If you have what it takes to be a part of this great team and community, feel free to apply at our website  If you have questions about the application process, contact any of the officers for additional information.

Patch 7.1 is approaching and a lot of players will be lured by the siren of false riches.
For details which items are available in exchange for Blood of Sargeras look here. What will happen after Patch 7.1 goes live?
Prices of reagents will go drastically down as there will be a large spike in supply. Players will be burning their bloods. Many players are currently sitting on lots of bloods, because apart from Professions there's currently no use for them.  These very same players are willing to make quick Gold, which is where we will strike to make even more. Prices will stabilize again somewhere below their current values when people burn all their bloods. We want to make the most out of this opportunity, because we are patient little Goblins, right? Here are some steps to make you prepared for the Patch.
Nobody will be buying crappy items like Unbroken Claw or Lean Shank from the vendor as they want to maximize the value of bloods. It all comes down to players whining about how expensive all herb-based products (flasks, elixirs) are, so let's talk herbs! Hebs
Will be the most valued commodity. Let's do a little research with Median Prices (US)
Fjarnskaggl's price is 44.31 Gold. Foxflower's price is 48.86 Gold. Starlight Rose price is 114.71 Gold. (Source)
      Blood Spending
So, spending a blood on the Fjarnskaggl is 443.10 Gold, Foxflower 488.60 Gold and Starlight Rose just 344.13 Gold, which bring us to a conclusion that to get the maximum value of your bloods spend them on Fjarnskaggl & Foxflower.
      Buying Herbs & Making Profit
Starlight Rose is a reagent used for many flasks. On Patch day (October 25), buy as many as you can. The influx in supply will be vast and the price reduction will be crazy on Tuesday/Wednesday. Wait until at least November 8 when Trial of Valor opens and resell all the roses when the demand gets higher and people will have spent their bloods. Closing Tips
Don't forget to set up your Sniper to constantly scan the Auction House as miss-pricing will definitely occur. A separate account just for constant Sniping can always make you tons of gold!

      Falcosaur Pets!
Patch 7.1 introduces us to a rare Falcosaur breed of pets and mounts! You can obtain four new Falcosaur pets.
Bloodgazer Hatchling - Azsuna Direbeak Hatchling - Stormheim Sharptalon Hatchling - Val'sharah Snowfeather Hatchling - Highmountain
      World Quests
Need to be up in a specific zone to get the pet. They are on a two-day duration and even more than one can be up at a time.
Bloodgazer Swarm! Direbeak Swarm! Sharptalon Swarm! Snowfeather Swarm! Killing the Matriarch will spawn a corresponding orphan that you can interact with only by giving him food. Journal descriptions of the pets will give you more insight.
Azsunian Grapes Pungent Vrykul Gamalost Dried Bilberries Smoked Elderhorn After feeding the pet, you will need to level it to 25 then you will receive a specific quest which you need to complete. Overall, the quest line is quite long and involves, PvP, World Quests, raiding / dungeons with your pet out.
One of the final quests of the chain gives you Ultimate Battle-Training Stone, which is great, because you don't need to level another Falcosaur to 25!
That's not everything, Muffinus confirmed even more quests on Twitter.
Placeholder for tweet 784751197915783169 Mad props to Quintessence for her very detailed research on the subject. Don't forget to visit her blog for an in-depth look at Falcosaurs!
      Falcosaur Mounts
Four new Falcosaur mounts are coming. Their color corresponds to the pets so maybe after completing the Falcosaur quest chain they may be a final reward depending on which pet you pick.
Brilliant Direbeak Predatory Bloodgazer Snowfeather Hunter Viridian Sharptalon

Today's blue posts cover Trial of Valor LFR Testing, Havoc Demon Hunters, Outlaw Rogues, Honor Talents & Prestige and finally the Zoom Slider.
The LFR difficulty for Trial of Valor is being playtested now on Public Test Realms until tomorrow.
The Trial of Valor raid will be opening very shortly for testing on Raid Finder difficulty, and will remain open through tomorrow. Please use this thread to provide feedback, bug reports, and other relevant commentary.
If you prestiged at least once prior to 7.1, all Honor Talents will be unlocked when the patch goes live.
f you have already prestiged at least once before 7.1 then all of the honor talents will be automatically unlocked once 7.1 goes live.
Source for those who want double confirmation:
Havoc Demon Hunter talent diversification is on the list, here's an update from Ornyx. The changes won't come with 7.1, but later in a hotfix maybe?
      Hey everyone,

Bit of an update here - we’re looking into potentially making some changes to a few of Havoc’s talents, to diversify your options a bit and make certain rows feel more like there’s a choice to be made.

No details to share just yet, and these changes won’t make it into Patch 7.1, but we’re working on it.
Buffs to Outlaw Rogues are imminent. Devs confirmed seeing them a little lower in numbers than expected. Another discussed subject is Roll the Bones.
      Hey everyone,

Thanks again for your patience here as it does take some time to make sure we go over all the feedback we receive - we've been having a few conversations based on the feedback in this thread and throughout the community, and I wanted to share our thoughts on Roll the Bones, as well as the state of Outlaw overall.

Roll the Bones is a spec-defining ability for Outlaw Rogues, and there’s a lot of depth to the gameplay of reacting to the various buffs that the Bones can provide, as they alter the flow and pace of combat. We’re happy with how it’s played out, and there are very few class mechanics that can rival the excitement of getting that elusive 6-buff at just the right time.

That said, we recognize that that playstyle might not sit well for everyone, which is why we created Slice and Dice as an alternative to opt-out of the Roll the Bones playstyle. Marked for Death and Death From Above take a little more effort to use effectively, and need to give enough of a benefit to reward that effort, but we’re going to take another look at Slice and Dice to make sure it’s living up to expectations. If it isn’t, we’ll look into making some improvements.

Separately from Roll the Bones, we do feel that Outlaw’s DPS has ended up a little lower than we’d like it to be, and are looking into some options to bring it up a bit. We don’t have an ETA just yet on when that might happen, but it’s on our to-do list.
No nerfs to zoom, only cVAR changes on PTRs.
      Zoom nerfed on PTR. Intended?
Intended, yes - but maybe not quite in the way you phrased it.

The CVar has changed to cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor, so the command you will want to use now is "/console cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor 2.6". This value should also persist now, so you only need to use the command once.

The slider itself was unnecessary, and has been removed. The default value is set to the max, and very, very few people (if anyone?) used it to reduce their maximum zoom distance. The game's zoom distance will now default to the old maximum value of 1.9 unless changed with the above console command.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, though! Appreciate the feedback here. :)
Can you ask the dev team to do one small test before considering this to go live? Try the Lorlathil daily where you have to gather the nuts. I have to zoom way in to click on them, otherwise the click region is so small, it's frustrating. I'm sure there are other quests that will be similar (catching the squirrels or whatever they are) in hyjal, for instance.
This doesn't affect the amount you can zoom in, only the amount you can zoom out. We did take situations like this into account, but we don't believe players are necessarily reducing their maximum camera view distance for this (rather than just mouse-wheeling to zoom in).
      That's it for today's blues!
