What makes Chimaera Shot better than Stomp?

I get that Stomp is Physical damage while Chimaera is Nature/Frost, meaning the damage from Stomp gets partially mitigated by armor, but Stomp just seems to do way more damage on single target and even better on AoE regardless. It's technically on a 12s cd compared to Chimaera Shot's 9s cd but I'm not sure how much that improves it, and Dire Beast gets resets every so often too.

Am I missing something? Or is the +focus from Chimaera Shot really just that good?

Guest Chimera/Stomp

Hey, how do you figure chimera shot is better than Stomp? With all my testing I do have Stomp being ahead by 11%; single target. I do have 21% haste in the beta (chimera 7,43 sec; Dire Beast 9,91 sec, not sure why Dire Beast is still this high) even without any proccs of wild call, Stomp will do more dmg overall. If you have at least two targets, this isn´t even in the same ballpark. I do have Stomp at an average of 136k and chimera at 61k (2x). And yes with Chimera you will have more focus to burn, and with Stomp there will be downtime, if you do have bad luck with Wild call proccs, still, but with all the testing I have done, it shows to be ahead by around 8% (single target)

And maybe theoretically bestail fury should be better than One with the pack and not so procc dependend, but here also, if you do get the 15% more proccs via One with the pack, Stomp will deliver more Dmg than those 15% extra during Bestial Wrath, especially if you do have at least 2 targets. Plus the regular Bestial Wrath will be up more often, because of the increase of Dire Beast usage.

Maybe you can clear up, where my thinking is wrong.

Thx,

Prux

I am sorry, 11% was the overall Dmg plus I got using Stomp instead of Chimera, including Dmg plus for Cobra Shot, etc. 8% if you just compare the Stomp Dmg to the Chimera Dmg.

Thx Prux

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Very surprised to see Chimera Shot showing as being viable.

I was going to pick it anyway just because it's the most fun talent, but it would be cool to understand the reasoning in those guides sometimes, something more than just "this is better" and "this is worse."

Way of the cobra was bugged as of the last couple beta builds. If you take the talent make sure it is working before you hit an instance or raid.

That's because the pre-patch isn't live yet.

I am new.

I 'tamed' some pets by clicking a little icon and blowing kisses at them.

Today, the little icon seems missing.  I don't know how to tame a pet now after the update.

If the little icon is still there, where can I find it to put it back on the action bar?

Thanks.  :)

You have abilities listed as the "proper choice" on the talents page and then have other abilities (sometimes what you've called the worst choice) being shown as high priority in the rotation page.

Like Barrage.  Barrage in my testing is twice the damage of both Cobra and Auto.  Crows has a substantially longer cooldown and Volley is a constant Focus drain where Focus relies on Dire Beast/Frenzy resets.

Stomp provides excessively more damage than Dire Frenzy with Chimaera being the lowest dps.  But Dire Frenzy is also cosmetic to get rid of Dire Beasts.

Killer Cobra gives many more Kill Commands under Bestial Wrath which is up quite a lot especially paired with Aspect of the Wild.  Stampede requires a static target as any movement or facing will waste the damage since it's a straight line and no longer follows the target.

Posthaste is freedom plus a speed boost while Farstrider is extra resets of a 20 second cooldown ability with a shortened leap distance sans glyph. So moving faster every 20 seconds versus lots of random jumping?

Oh, I found it.  It is part of the pet utility now.  Thank you.

Chimaera and Stomp are extremely close single-target, with Chimaera narrowly winning out. Unless you have simulations that show the contrary that are better than my own, then your anecdotal experience and in-game testing is not worth a single thing, actually.

The same goes for everyone challenging the guide on its choice of talents. You can't just come and claim something is better, you must prove it. The best way to do that is with sims. If not with sims, then you must have a reasonable case for why simulations are not adequate.

If you have done simulations, my mistake, but you haven't linked them so it's pretty hard for me to verify what you're saying when you're just saying "this is how it is and you're wrong".

I can tell you right now that Dire Frenzy is miles behind both Stomp and Chimaera for absolutely everything. Just as Killer Cobra is quite a bit behind Stampede, and Barrage is fairly terrible for Beast Mastery when Crows benefits from Mastery.

If you can prove me wrong, I welcome it.

Hey! Thanks for putting this guide together so quick! I admit that I've been pretty lost today, missing traps and camouflage among other things. :(

Could you explain why you include Barrage in the rotations when you initially say to choose Volley? I might've missed a part somewhere. Thanks again!

The Barrage is part of the rotation in case someone decides to use it. It isn't recommended, but if you are using it, it's there.

In your guide at trinket ranking is the class trinket listed as the worst one. At ask-mr-robot is the class trinket listes as the best one. So what now?!

And are you sure to going haste as main stat? I think Mastery or Versatility is the better choice.

What is in your opinion the better spec, mm or bm (actual patch with t18 in hfc) ?

Good Morning! Thanks for the guide.
What would be the ideal percentages:
Haste?
Versatility?
Mastery?

I would also like to know, what will be more interesting if the MM or BM, given that I liked more the BM, but I was forced to play in WOD MM.

Thanks

No such thing as ideal percentages in the real world.

I am not sure what your second question is, sorry.

Hey dude! Great guide for beginners.

Although some of your statements are just making me pissed off. Can you please explain why BM is considered worse than MM? Considering rotations, cd's and everything, BM felt much more smooth than MM to be honest. Most of MM talents have this small area of usefullness during a 8 min fight, yet all viable BM talents have great use in them, and dps never drops even when RNJesus decides to leave you alone, yet your cd's make you go literally wild.

Second, how is Chimera Shot better than Stomp? Even against a single target (a situtaion rarely happens) simple math tells you stomp is way better, even without mentioning the cosmetic part.

Great job again, but a bit confusing statements for lovers of this spec.

I don't have an answer to part 1, I'm sure Azor will, but he has answered about Chimera vs. Stomp:

Now's the perfect time to unlock your missing Plunderstorm rewards with doubled Renown gains until April 30th!
      (Source)
Hoist the sails and batten the hatches; a Plundersurge begins this week with weekly maintenance!
The Plunderstorm event is ending on April 30, but until then, pirating players can double the amount of Renown earned from all sources of Plunder by taking the Plundersurge.
      Set Sail for the Plunderstorm
Plunge into a challenging battle that earns excellent rewards for World of Warcraft® Modern and Classic progression realms. All you have to do is survive…and plunder. Can't seem to stay in the realm of the living? No problem. Plunderers still gain progression that helps unlock new rewards.
Each match is 10-15 minutes long and has 60 players per match, with the winner being the last one standing. Level up and acquire new abilities and spells by killing creatures and enemies, looting chests, and avoiding the encroaching storm.
      A Pirate's Life for You
The Arathi Highlands is the backdrop for this pirating adventure, and you'll have plenty of challenges to keep you busy.
      Prepare to Plunder
Plunderstorm is perfect for pick-up and play! No expansion purchase is required, but a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time is needed to participate in a high-stakes, play-by-the-seat-your-pants match. This means that Classic players can also participate in a plethora of plundering fun by simply installing the modern (Live) World of Warcraft client:
Launch the Battle.net desktop app. Click the World of Warcraft icon at the top. If the icon is missing, click on All Games and select the game from the list. On top of the Install button is a drop-down menu. Confirm that you wish to install World of Warcraft. Click Install. Once you’re in modern WoW:
Select Plunderstorm2 from the World of Warcraft game menu to get into the action. Create a new, ready-to-play character—player characters are unique to this event. You don't need previous knowledge of races and classes to chart your course for mayhem. Choose between Solo or—to play with your Battle.net friends—make a group from the Plunderstorm character screen and select Duo. If queued for a Duo without a partner, you'll be automatically matched with one. You can also access chat, customize characters, and see the queue from the Character Select Screen. Action Bar and Abilities, Worthy Mates
Discover lootable spells, abilities, and upgrades as you plunder treasure chests and defeat enemies. Upon picking up, spells and abilities are automatically added to your Action Bar, with two slots dedicated to offensive skills and two for utilities such as leaps, speed boosts, and crowd-control.
Some abilities are more action-based and require good positioning and player targeting. Have fun discovering and experimenting with different combinations to find what works for you.
Upgrades to Your Spells and Abilities
Your spells and abilities can be upgraded by discovering higher-quality versions from treasure chests or finding the same ability elsewhere and stacking it to Rank 3 (epic). There are also plenty of plundering opportunities—various treasure chests with different rarities that harbor all types of abilities are stashed around the map. Always stay on the lookout for better loot and upgrades.
      Spectating Spectre
Upon death, keep watching the match from the perspective of your teammates (if they're still alive) or other players, including their loadout.
      Rewards A-Plenty for Plundering Pirates
Players can earn cosmetics, pets, titles, and mounts as they progress through the reward track. These include the majestic Polly Roger parrot mount, Bubbles the crab pet, swashbuckling cosmetics, 750 Trader's Tender from "Keg Leg's Crew" for use on the Trading Post, and more. 3 A victory is not required to claim the spoils of a well-fought fight.
To view Renown and apply the Plunderstorm weapon and transmog customizations, change titles, or summon pets, swabbies can click on Da'kash Grimledger standing directly in front of the spawn point in the Plunderstorm lobby.
Customization unlocks are simultaneously unlocked for Dragonflight characters and can be found in your Collection. Each Renown level unlock is noted in colored text under the reward name, whether the reward is for Dragonflight, Plunderstorm, or Classic.
Perch on the shoulders of this parrot instead of him perching on yours! Proper pirate fashion is a must for plundering! There isn't a better first mate on the high seas than Pirate Pepe! Plunderstorm Content Update Notes
Learn more details about Plunderstorm in our update notes.
We look forward to seeing you drop from the skies to engage in pirate-themed mayhem. We'll see you in Azeroth and wherever the adventure takes you!
1 Requires World of Warcraft® Subscription or Game Time.
2Plunderstorm is accessed from the World of Warcraft® game menu but exists outside of player progression in World of Warcraft® and Wrath of the Lich King Classic™.
3Plunderstorm offers rewards for both World of Warcraft® and Wrath of the Lich King Classic™.

Check out our first look at MoP Remix coming in Patch 10.2.7!
When Patch 10.2.7 goes live, you will be greeted by the following screen, informing you about the MoP Remix event and its objectives. There will be a button that lets you create your Timerunner (character).

Similar to Plunderstorm, there will be an icon on the character screen for MoP Remix with the number of days remaining.

Timerunners will be marked with a special icon next to their name on the character selection screen.

When you first enter the game, you'll start with a short intro quest on the Timeless Shore. Your character will be affected with the Pandaria: Remix buff.

The quest intro features a few unique quests before you start replaying MoP from the very beginning. It introduces you to Bronze, the event's currency used to buy items and upgrade gear.
Throughout your journey you will come across some very unique gear just like this cloak (Cloak of Infinite Potential) that permanently increases in power (Timerunner's Advantage).

Your char will have access to two important Timerunning abilities.
Extract Gem - Extract a gem from one of your socketed items. Unraveling Sands - Summon Unraveling Sands that transforms your unwanted items into Bronze. Gems offer a lot of customization in MoP Remix and you want to extract them with Extract Gem, because placing a new gem on top of a socketed one will make you lose it.
If you come across unneeded gear, you can scrap it for Bronze with Unraveling Sands.

Things seem to be stabilizing a little, at least at the very top, as our DK-Rogue trio remains solid this week. There's plenty of movement below that though, so let's dive in.
Note: We are using Normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. The u.gg rankings at the bottom are raw DPS. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it's AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.
      Mythic
      Overall Damage 95th Percentile
It seems we have a stable chart at the top, as the DK-Rogue sandwich is exactly where we left them last week! We do see a big mover right after that, however, as Elemental jumps three spots up into 4th, pushing Retribution down one. Fury remains stable in 6th, followed by Frost Mage, which gains a spot at the expense of Outlaw, which is down three. The three A's are still sticking together, with Arms, Assassination and Arcane all moving one up, and the Rogue moving ahead of the Mage at the end of the top 10.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
It's Survival's week this time around, as the Hunter bursts up nine spots into 7th, with the top 6 remaining the same. Elemental rises here as well in 9th, gaining three spots, as Havoc drops two at the end of the top 10. Marksmanship joins fellow Hunter Beast Mastery in the bottom 3, taking Feral's place.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Boss Only Damage All Percentiles
Unholy moves to the top of the pack in the direct damage charts, just barely taking Subtlety down. Survival makes an appearance here as well, moving six spots up into 6th, as Assassination and Shadow push Balance out of the top 10.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
      Overall Damage All Percentiles

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

      U.GG Raw Mythic DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks. This chart is for Mythic only.
Arms is on the way up, gaining three spots in 6th and pushing Havoc down one, as the Fyr'alaths start compounding here as well. Fire moves three up in 9th, as Frost DK drops those same three spots just outside the top 10.
      Mythic chart by u.gg.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for more information you can check out our Dragonflight class guides, Amirdrassil boss guides, the raid DPS tier list, as well as more data from Warcraft Logs here.

As many expected, it seems everyone's favorite farm won't be making it to Remix: Mists of Pandaria, as spotted by TheYamagato.
This makes perfect sense, since it's a limited time event and the farm is a long reputation grind based on daily activities, and just wouldn't really fit with the shorter runtime. The farm itself is still there, but the NPCs that start the quests are not, replaced by the new Timerunning ones.       And so we're going to have to skip the farm when 10.2.7 comes along, but hey, it's still there on regular old retail if you really feel the need!
