Enhancement Shaman 7.3

Could someone elaborate on why we should take Empowered Stormlash over Tempest for raiding?

I understand that Empowered Stormlash is useful to others, but how is it useful to me or my raiding performance? As far as I can tell, I receive no buff from Stormlash, much less the Empowered version.

I feel as if my raid damage / burst-potential would be much higher if I raided with Tempest, especially when I get my artifact and gain much more mastery/haste in Legion. Right now sure, its a bit rough using Tempest because I don't gain that much Maelstrom from Rockbiter/Boulderfist, but as I gain more maelstrom from Windfury autos due to artifact, using all 3x Stormstrikes should be easy.

So is it purely altruism or an assumption on the part of the raid leader to only take Enhance shaman who are altruistic?

All the damage from Stormlash is attributed to you, so you're not losing damage and giving it to others. In Legion you take Tempest in every situation so I wouldn't worry about it, new guide should be live within a few hours.

Quick Q on the artifact trait "weapons of the elements": Does it only apply to the initial hit/cast from Flametongue and Frostbrand? Or does it affect all the individual hit procs from Flametongue and/or, if talented, Hailstorm?

The upkeep as well.

Hey, just wondering if the 17% initial haste cap still applies since the update to this guide?

Great guide as usual, and I'm having a blast questing through Broken Isles (106 right now) following it.

I really wanted to pick up my Shaman for Legion, so I used the Boost on him (he was parked at 80 since WotLK, and I don't have the nerve to level yet another character through the awfully bad Cataclysm zones). I have a couple of questions:

- I haven't played since Cata, and was pleasantly surprised that melee combat feels so much more fluid, and "direct" now. That said, is it still enough to pull mobs, and click priorities/rotations to mow down mobs while standing still, except for a couple telegraphed AoEs? Or is it possible with melee classes to mitigate melee damage by keeping on he move, dancing around mobs (like in TESO, and FFXIV to some degree)?

- Noxxic's Shaman guide (pretty much the only other one beside Icy-Veins) lists Haste over Mastery in their stat priorities. I know while leveling it doesn't really matter, since you just gear up, and take what you get as long as it's higher in iLvl, but for 110 dungeons, and raids, I'd like to know what I should gear for. Haste>Mastery like Noxxic or Haste ~60% of Mastery like you advise?

Thanks for all your work, been a regular visitor for D3, HotS, and WoW for a couple years now.

A question on the stat priority:

Is a ratio of 3:1 Mastery/Haste still suggested? That seems to have been removed from the guide.

It's in the guide: it says your Haste should be 60-65% of your Mastery rating for optimal scaling

I won't answer any of your questions but I do like to suggest that you AVOID Noxxic like the plague, as it has time and time again proven to provide misinformation.

These links also provide several links to help players who are looking for more informations.

I'm not going to criticize Noxxic, because I don't think it's my place as the co-owner/founder of Icy Veins. I'll just say that it's very difficult to maintain accurate guides. We have some of the best players/theorycrafters working on some of our class guides (with the goal being to have them all written by such people in the near future). They too can make mistakes and WoW players in general aren't very forgiving when it happens :p I know Noxxic doesn't use top players or anything like this, so it's an even harder task for them.

Hi, nice Guide!

but i still have a question about the stat priorities.

can anyone provide me the right stat weights for tis build?

like:  Agility [9.03] > Haste [7.53] > Mastery [6.03] > Crit [4.53] > Versatility [3.03]

because i want to use the addon Pawn, for easy upgrade tracking. And i cand find any weights but the one posted.

thanks in advance!

Quick question about opening rotation: Why cast Flametongue before Boulderfist? I would think, based on the rest of the guide and the applicable buffs, that you would want Boulderfist applied first.

Thanks for the great guide.

  • Sundering Icon Sundering does massive physical damage in a line and knocks enemies to either side, however, it has a 45-second cooldown.

Just for the sake of completeness: This spell has a 40-second cooldown.

Hey,

How would you rate Six-Feather Fan? 1k Agi with a chance to proc 6 strikes for 60+k Nature damage without factoring in Mastery?

Thanks.

It's nice to have up for the burst to follow and it can be cast while running in due to the increased range (though this is also true of Boulderfist). It also lasts longer and once your cooldowns are out and Doom Winds is up you'll want to be spamming more consumers as opposed to refreshing Boulderfist earlier.

Will make some quick edits when I can, thanks.

It's usable but not exceptional when compared with some of the other available choices (Chaos Talisman, Horn of Valor, Faulty Countermeasure, etc.).

Hi, can anyone clarify with me why it's Crashing Storm > Lava lash in pure single target? Lava lash is literally way more damage for only slightly more maelstrom.

Because of the lightning zone from Crashing Storm.

Because of the artifact trait that increases the damage of the next stormstrike

We generally stay away from the specific stat weights, since they not only change for each person depending on gear, but they also are incredibly difficult to maintain as a general piece of information. We'll see what we can do, but no promises, sorry!

Could you ellaborate on why you should take crashing storm instead of e.g. sundering?

27k damage over 6 seconds seems like waay too little :(dw

Crash Lightning is more damage per maelstrom spent than Lava Lash, as well as increasing the damage of your next StormStrike by 6% (up to 12% with relics) per target hit - here we count 1 target. If you take into account that the only reason you'll spend your whole maelstrom bar is to spam stormstrike, if you're not in a situation where you can spam it, you want to deal  the maximum amount of damage per maelstrom spent, instead of maximum damage per GCD since you want to keep a high amount of maelstrom for those Stormbringer procs.

Question and a suggestion -

To what degree should I prioritise the stat priorities and maintaining haste being under mastery vs ilevel upgrades and such, and how much worse than mastery/haste are crit and versatility? So much mail gear doesn't have both of our best stats on which is really frustrating.

Suggestion / additional question - have you considered the "Devilsaur Shock Baton" to the recommended items gear list. The base damage on it is great and when enhanced by mastery it makes up a significant chunk of damage; I haven't managed to get a decent level faulty countermeasure to compare it with yet but from my play with it it seems to be really up there in terms of damage output from a trinket slot.

Is Frostbrand still part of my rotation if I talent Ancestral Swiftness instead of Hailstorm?

Tama's Dragonflight Helper is a Weakaura that displays a weekly to-do list in the game and it's been updated for Dragonflight Season 4!
The WeakAura is very useful for keeping track of everything in the game at max level. It shows you a to-do list with the weekly tasks, provides you with the locations of rares, super rares, information about your current Renown standing, and more.

You will find Tama's Dragonflight Helper at wago.io. Please note that you must first download and install WeakAuras 2 to import the string.

Cataclysm's Grim Batol has been added to the Mythic+ Dungeon rotation in The War Within Season 1, and one boss received a brand new model recently on the Alpha.
General Umbriss, the first boss of the dungeon, got a shiny new model, which is quite different from his previous one. Below is a screenshot of the old a new model.

Blizzard have clarified why players are able to get a full Spark of Awakening through the two available Splinters in the first week of Dragonflight Season 4, and it seems it's only for this week and only due to catch-up rules being enabled!
      Splintered Spark (Source)
Just want to confirm this with some details.
Everyone essentially started Season 4 in catch-up mode. Players were able to get 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening from the weekly quest, whether that’s the weekly “Last Hurrah” quest or the PvP weeklies offered by Malicia.
And then you’re able to get another splinter / half-spark from any valid catch-up sources, such as Mythic+, Awakened Raids, and PvP wins.
Next week and thereafter, only one Splintered Spark is obtainable every week. And like Seasons 2 and 3, with the increasing cap on Splintered Sparks per week, and if you ever fall behind you will be able to get Splintered Sparks from any catch-up source.

It seems there may be an easier way to obtain the Tusks of Mannoroth appearance during the Mists of Pandaria Remix event!
The tusks are one of the rarest transmogs in the game currently, even with the recently added Siege of Orgrimmar skip, as their drop rates are VERY low (0.1-0.3%, reportedly). As spotted by MrGM, the new Tusks of Mannoroth are a cosmetic appearance item added in the new limited time event. Now, some have suggested they may just be purchasable from the Bronze vendor (the currency that will drop off of pretty much anything in the event), making them pretty easy to get, but it seems there might be a different way to get them.
It's unclear whether the cosmetic will actually be purchasable or if it will drop somewhere else, but another interesting Mannoroth-related item was added as well, the Bones of Mannoroth, which may be related to the cosmetic.

As you can see the bones are a stackable resource you gain from killing Garrosh, and it's looking like they're a way to guarantee the Tusk appearance with enough kills! Just how many drop is unclear, but assuming you need all 20 for the appearance and that Normal drops 1, Heroic 2 and Mythic 3 bones, it may take at least 7 weeks to get them. Now the number required might be/is likely to be lower than the 20  stack maximum, and we may get more bones per kill.
But even at 7 weeks it's much, much easier to get than the current "hope for 0.3%" in retail, so it's still a pretty good deal! This may or may not upset players that farmed for the tusks for a long time the regular way, but there's a whole lot players that will be thrilled!
The Remix: Mists of Pandaria event starts on May 16th and should last until August 19th.
