Mists of Pandaria Healer Theory Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Blizzard stated yesterday that they are now at a point where the Beta mechanics and numbers are fairly stable. They invited everybody to begin their theorycrafting in earnest now that the numbers are stable enough to draw real conclusions from. There is currently a thread open where you can launch any and all number questions (strictly numbers; design feedback is not wanted) can be launched at the Devs. This is an extremely useful thread for theorycrafters and I will be keeping an eye on it (as should anyone vaguely interested in the craft).

What this means is that it's finally the appropriate time to start talking about what will happen to healers in Mists. We can already say with some certainty that several things will happen, but the problem I have is that there is no single place where all of these things are summed up (at least not on these forums). With that in mind, if anyone interested in what's going on in the theorycraft world will post updates about skills/numbers/mana regen/glyphs and talents/stat scaling formulas or anything else, please post a link along with a short summary of the point behind it. I will maintain several sections; one for each healing spec and another for healers in general.

I also propose that the relevant classes create theorycraft threads for their healing spec and discuss the details there.

Some ground rules;

  • No class design posts; numbers and mechanics modelling only please. We don't care about why Telluric Currents "should be nerfed" - we care what it's going to be doing.
  • Opinions are fine but must be backed up by some kind of evidence.
  • Anything construed as a fact must be quoted with a source.
  • No QQ - that's what the official forums are for. This is for information gathering, not complaining.
  • If you disagree with someone, be polite and quote more evidence. If the consensus seems divided, I will say as much in the relevant section.
  • Make it clear which Class, Spec, and Ability you are posting about. The clearer your post is, the easier it is for me to collate information. Poorly organized posts will just be ignored.
  • When quoting formulae, check your brackets - this is very important, as I will copy your formula character perfect if it's relevant to the section.
  • Have fun! :)
Sections

  • Healers
  • Restoration Shaman
  • Holy Paladins
  • Restoration Druids
  • Priests
  • -> Holy
  • -> Discipline
  • Mistweaver Monks
Let the information commence! :)

JUST IN CASE they stealth-add another healing spec Posted Image

I'm still in charge of the Resto Shaman guide on this website, so I'll need to contribute a few things to this topic after I've leveled up my Shaman. Thanks for taking the time to write all this ;)

This is great. I'll get into this discussion tomorrow, since I'm managing all the healing guides except Resto Shaman :)

Let's see what we can get!

P.S.: We seem to have a bunch of Priests around here, so let's see some action *cracks whip*

I've got some of my own blogposts in the works with proposed consequences for Shaman (should be done today) and a proposed tool for evaluating regen balance relative to other stats (which will take a while) - I'll want someone to at least comment on them before I put them in the top though. It may be relevant to discuss the second post here, but the first one I expect can be discussed in a (forthcoming) Resto Shaman MoP theorycraft thread.

ALSO: I have no access to the Beta at all. If anyone can post places we can find numbers for typical heal values, stat values on gear, etc - I'd LOVE to get my hands on those.

My first set of sources for information:

1) Manapools change to fixed values in MoP - 300k total. Shaman, Paladins, Druids have a base manapool on 60k and a 400% bonus (totalling 300k) (source, thanks to Matticus) (secondsource, thanks to Derevka)

Also from these sources:

2) Intellect only scales Spellpower and Critical Strike, Spirit is now the only passive regen stat. It scales linearly as;

Combat Regen = Total Mana *0.02 +(1.1287*SPI*Meditation%)

3) For Meditation = 50% and at level 90, this simplifies to;

Combat Regen = 6000 + 0.56435*Spirit

We need to know about exceptions to the Meditation=50% rule.

4) Almost allMana regen cooldowns are now based on a fixed % of the manapool - this means that they do not increase with gear. One exception to this is Mana Tide Totem - any other exceptions we want to know about.

Never really been into the theory crafting side of it all but I'll do my best to help out from a holy priest point of view!

Sources for spell numbers, sources of other people theorycrafting (with specific points), and anything else you can help out with is appreciated. You don't necessarily have to be directly involved in the theory itself - we want sources and summaries here so we can make a compilation of the relevant things we will see in MoP.

      Welcome Adventurers! The time has come upon us, FINALLY! The moment in Classic WoW history us diehard, loyal WoW nerds have all been waiting for. WRATH CLASSIC! Arthas Did Nothing Wrong (ADNW) has just begun recruiting (For WotLK Classic) hard-core, casual, rp, pvp, pve, raiders, anything you can think of, you are welcomed here. Although our main focus in ADNW will be progressive raiding, 10 and 25 man and pvp content, we look to have someone for just about anything. Currently we are recruiting for our CORE 10M team composed entirely of irl / internet homies. We are in need of just 1 HEALER (Highly prefer a disc priest with a shadow off spec) and another DPS. Preferably lock or Shadow priest. We are looking to fill our B 10m team entirely, so we can pool together for 25 man’s when it comes time to crush 25m. This guild was founded by a group of tight nit friends recently, who have been around since TBC. WOTLK was our turning point in WoW, and we CANNOT wait to get another crack at this and MAKE IT RIGHT. Come join the adventure of a chill environment full of helpful hands and knowledge. Feel free to reach out to me Via Discord: Daevilmonkiexp#9239 OR Bnet: Daevilmonkie#1280 just let me know you are interested in the guild and we can have a convo! ARTHAS DID NOTHING WRONG!

      <Fun is for Casuals> is a serious but casual horde guild on US-Hyjal. We are serious about raiding without the intense hours. Even when recruitment status is none, we will accept exceptional applications for all classes. For a full list of what we're looking for check out https://funisforcasuals.enjin.com .
      Our raid times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM server (PST) with raid invitations sent out a few minutes prior to that.

      We're interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
      Raid attendance is essential. We don't want people sitting on the bench but we also want to make sure we're raiding 6 hours per week. We expect you to be available for at least 90% of our raids. Be on time and prepared for raids. This includes flasks and other consumables. Discord is mandatory and a working mic is desired. You're appropriately geared for our current content. Effort and thought have been put into your gear/gem/enchant choices. You wouldn't show up for a job interview looking like a scrub, why would you apply to a guild with improper gems or some insane spec? You're up to date with your class. We expect our raiders to perform to the best of their abilities. You have a computer that's not run with hamster power or requires a hand crank. Some encounters are taxing on a computer's resources so if your toon can't even handle Orgrimmar it's not likely to do well with 20+ whelps that need AOE'ing.
      You may be interested in us because:
      <Fun is for Casuals> uses the personal loot system. There is no loot council, or DKP. We won't eat your babies the first time you stand in something you have no business being in. Repeatedly do it and we'll break out the bibs and BBQ sauce. We provide a limited amount of consumables and flasks on hard mode raid nights. Discord isn't a circus during raids. We're focused on the job at hand and you should be too. We don't want someone to miss a an interrupt because they were distracted by fart jokes. We are not interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
      You roll on BoE items then sell them. Unwilling/unable to spend an entire evening on one boss during progression. While this is rare, it can happen. Drama queens. If you have a problem bring it up to E. This is his job. Don't announce it in guild chat or during a raid. Your issue will have nothing to do with 99% of the guild. You are 17 or younger. We try to keep guild and discord chat PG-13 but occasionally a few four letter words appear out of nowhere. Additionally, we don't want someone's mom interrupting their raiding to get homework or the dishes done. Follow the instructions at https://funisforcasuals.enjin.com/ under the Recruitment tab if you would like to apply.
      If you have any question, feel free to contact E. at DbD#1309

      restoration druid nerfs 8.1

      I saw on Wowhead that Restro druids are receiving a nerf to  Tranquility : Heals all allies within 40 yards for [(41%37% of Spell power) * 5] over 8 sec. Each heal heals the target for another 16 over 8 sec, stacking.
      Healing increased by 100% when not in a raid.

      I feel like its not necssary and are going to effect my healing in a bad way duh. (Nerfs normally do.) But as it is right now im far behind Mistweaver munks and every priest spec.
      My Tranquility is my second higest if not the higest healing abillity i have (Thats what Details Tells me.)

      And im unsure how the Autumn leaves changes is gonna effect me, wheter or not its for the better or worse.

      What do you guys think?

      This is my first post please no roast ?
