Elemental vs Enhancement

Recommended Posts

Which has a higher single target dps atm? Noxxic dps ranking says enhancement is top 3 highest dps but the highest ilv shamans in guilds such as Method all go elemental, but some people say enhancement is really stronk :/

Enhancement might have slightly higher theoretical dps, but it's a moot point. The difference is minimal in practise.

I think most people play elemental because it's easier to offspec resto. In a lot of guilds versatility is the key to a spot on the raidteam.

Usually you'll do better at whatever spec you enjoy the most. Play what you find more enjoyable :)

One thing to note is that Noxxic's DPS rankings are pretty unrealistic. I know this because one of the owners of this site (and contributors to SimCraft) was talking about it - the sims that they run to determine DPS vary wildly in quality between classes and specs. Don't trust them.

Overall I'd really just say play what you feel is closest to your style. I prefer Enhancement, but it's certainly more difficult to obtain a raid ready set as your offspec.

enhance have huge burst potential but their rotation is very busy and requires a bit of skill. i personally dont like it. elemental rotation is pretty straightforward and easy to learn, but they are hugely gear dependant and tuned for the massive haste gain from teh Legendary Meta.

i too recommend playing a class based on how much fun you have. you are going to have to log on to a toon a lot if you want to get anywhere near raiding dps charts.

if you arent particularly attached to any class and just want to be invited to a raid, raise a healer or a tank. if you have a lot of toons and want to join a team, just demonstrate your raid awareness and offer to make a toon your main based on that group's token distribution or utility needs. (usually meaning - level a warlock/engineer)

what would be a good site as a pure reference? for more realistic numbers

I play enhancement myself. we are 2 shaman´s in our 10 man group, we are around the same ilvl, im higher on the damage done list then the elemental on singel target, but elemental is much higher then enhance on fight´s with more target´s cause of the chain lightning and lava stream (think it´s the right name) so it really depends on the fights what spec is best :)

This whole expansion has favored having more ranged DPS and generally no more than 1 melee (even 2 is stretching on Iron Qon), so that's probably why you see more Elementals. Enhance is a great spec, but the Rogue and Warrior have unique raid utility, so given a limited number of slots, that's what they're going to take.

I sometimes Enhancement Offspec for our raid team, and one of our regular members is an Elemental player. Since I'm something like 20 ilvls below him, I'd say I keep up reasonably. The difference is very small, except on AoE fights when Elemental goes balls-out apeshit and destroys everything. Play whichever spec is coolest for you :)

As someone who raids very little, I can say that I greatly prefer enhancement as far as killing speed in questing, dailies, and perhaps a number of scenarios as well (though I haven't tried heroic scenarios yet; why is another story I've gone into on previous posts, so if you're curious, just look up my posting history and you'll find it).

Enhancement may take some more of a beating against multiple trash mobs since elemental has definite advantages in AoE. Good gear and proper use of buffs, elixirs, food etc will help a lot.

And as has been said already on this thread, raid guilds that are looking for solid progression will want as many ranged dps as possible, and versatility. Elemental shamans usually don't need a second gear set when they're specced restoration-- I've never really played a healer shaman myself, but I know that they put forth solid healing and have often been called, "annoyingly difficult to kill." (That quote is probably a PVP statement, but I think it would apply in PVE as well.) Even a DPS shaman will be expected to contribute SOME healing via Healing Rain, Healing Stream totems, the occasional Chain Heal on a Maelstrom Weapon proc, etc. I've been working hard to remember to do this when taking part in Galleon/Sha of Anger kills.

It's worth noting that Enhancement does have a lot of utility too. Most importantly is the utility of Maelstrom Weapon; you get insta-cast heals! This has saved me several times. We also get an extra sprint function, which is truly awesome.

I play Enhancement with two other Elemental shamans fairly equally geared in my guild. I trounce them on DPS at the start of every single fight and typically stay ahead of them until the end. They can pull ahead very easily when there are adds, though, especially in a fight like Horidon where there's too much moving around to effectively use Enhancement AoE.

But in reality, we're talking about hundreds of damage per second differences in most fights. It doesn't seem to matter a whole lot. Enhancement is the spec I stick with because of its utility and healing flexibility. I haven't been happier with with any other spec since Enhancement got the ability to throw down free, and fairly powerful Healing Rains or Chain Heals.

Raid/Class Spots Are Open To Any Applicant If The Player Is The Right Fit
A guild formed with an ambition for progression and a love for M+ we decided to make the move from Silvermoon Alliance and form a guild to take our focus to the next level, Cutting Edge in 10.1 being the next step.
We believe in building a guild by recruit players of a similar goal and mentality whether it be for raiding or for push score in Mythic plus. We value loyalty, honesty and a positive attitude towards setbacks. Communication skills are an absolute must.
      Raid Schedule
      Wednesday 20:30-23:00 Sunday 20:30-23:00
      Current Progression
      9/9HC 5/9M
What are we looking for recruitment wise?
We're currently open to recruiting DPS classes listed above, as we aim to solidify a stable 25-player roster. We're looking to provide competition to existing members and choose the best 25 players to proceed with for next tier.
      Contact Information:
      Discord; tomsen and lora1506
Think you'd be a good fit?
If you believe that you are a player that is looking to achieve the same goals as us then why not contact us and see if we can achieve our goals together!

<Fun is for Casuals> is a serious but casual horde guild on US-Hyjal. We are serious about raiding without the intense hours. Even when recruitment status is none, we will accept exceptional applications for all classes.
Our raid times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30PM to 8:30PM server (PST) with raid invitations sent out a few minutes prior to that.
We're interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
Raid attendance is essential. We don't want people sitting on the bench but we also want to make sure we're raiding 6 hours per week. We expect you to be available for at least 90% of our raids. Be on time and prepared for raids. This includes flasks and other consumables. Discord is mandatory and a working mic is desired. You're appropriately geared for our current content. Effort and thought have been put into your gear/gem/enchant choices. You wouldn't show up for a job interview looking like a *filtered*, why would you apply to a guild with improper gems or some insane spec? You're up to date with your class. We expect our raiders to perform to the best of their abilities. You have a computer that's not run with hamster power or requires a hand crank. Some encounters are taxing on a computer's resources so if your toon can't even handle Orgrimmar it's not likely to do well with 20+ whelps that need AOE'ing. You may be interested in us because:
<Fun is for Casuals> uses the personal loot system. There is no loot council, or DKP. We won't eat your babies the first time you stand in something you have no business being in. Repeatedly do it and we'll break out the bibs and BBQ sauce. We provide a limited amount of consumables and flasks on hard mode raid nights.  Discord isn't a circus during raids. We're focused on the job at hand and you should be too. We don't want someone to miss a an interrupt because they were distracted by fart jokes. We are not interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
You roll on BoE items then sell them. Unwilling/unable to spend an entire evening on one boss during progression. While this is rare, it can happen. Drama queens. If you have a problem bring it up to E. This is his job. Don't announce it in guild chat or during a raid. Your issue will have nothing to do with 99% of the guild. You are 17 or younger. We try to keep guild and discord chat PG-13 but occasionally a few four letter words appear out of nowhere. Additionally, we don't want someone's mom interrupting their raiding to get homework or the dishes done. Follow the instructions at https://gow.gg/fun-is-for-casuals under the Recruitment tab if you would like to apply.

      Hi Team
I am recently returning from a few years away from the game and I have decided to go back to my much loved main throughout wrath, the feral druid. I have always been a cut above the rest and managed to be top dps all through wrath.
I was reading your guide and noticed in the talents you don't take savage roar. Can you explain the match behind this as to me it seems like the more viable option.
