Feral Druid (DPS Problems)

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

Thanks for your time looking at my post, I have recently started playing a Feral druid within a month back. Got to 110 two weeks ago and been constantly playing feral and at first with bad gears my DPS was sustaining around 250k when I was 850 ilvl geared in raids. But when I've gotten more time to gear up my druid and eventually my druid hit 878 ilvl and containing some of the BiS gears for feral for example the two trinkets. My DPS did not increase a huge amount of deal. Instead having an 28 ilvl upgrade + having the 3 golden trait, my Feral DPS only increased by 50k~60k in raids, this has started to take a toll with the lack of DPS that is needed to be pushing 7/7 M Emerald Nightmare. I've also asked many questions with our top server Feral Druid what I'm doing wrong and he is struggling to find any MAJOR point factors that why my DPS is extremely low with my ilvl.

My Artifact weapon is 25/34 currently, with Frost Relic 880 from H Guarm, Life Relic 880 from M Nythendra, Blood Relic from H Elerethe ~ Can't quite remember what ilvl it is.

I know my uptimes is low but when I've tested on target dummy my DPS is still around 310k~ even with 95% ~ 97% up time on my dots, so i'm completely clueless.

On the Nythendra kill, you only cast Rip twice with Tiger's Fury up. You also cast it twice without Savage Roar active. As long as I can remember, that kind of management has been extremely important because Feral bleeds have a snapshot effect. You want to apply bleeds with as many buffs up as possible. Funny enough you are quite good at applying it with Bloodtalons, which is a bitch, but you fall down on the more basic mechanic of the class.

You can see this for yourself by going to the "Damage Done" pane and looking at the "Source Auras Filter." This can show you how many times you cast each ability with Tiger's Fury up by clicking the buff icon, then if you click it again, with Tiger's Fury absent.

Regarding the uptimes, Feral has a whole bunch of dependencies on bleeds being there all the time. Work on smoothing out your rotation. When I was playing feral in raids back in Pandaria, I used a very simple and effective mod called Cat's Eye to track all of the key debuffs and timers. It's basically a well designed and eye-catching Weakauras.

Oh I see, basically my rotation is still unpolished and I'm getting heavily punished because of not having every buff active and applying the dot with the buffs. But another question is that I usually time Tiger's Fury with Ashamane's Frenzy then get 5 combo points then use Rip ~ usually, but if you think about it the timing it should actually match with Berserk or by off by 10 seconds max but it seems like thats not the case, when I activate it at the start before pulling the boss it is by a huge margin around 20 seconds and when It feels like I waste a lot of time applying and reapplying dots without the buffs being up and have to wait for certain buffs up. Is it also because my rotation is extremely slow? Also I feel like that blizzard is heavily punishing feral druid for not having a perfect rotation like there is a really really small margin of error.

Thanks for your time answering my forum though :)!

You can say that timing TF with Ashamane's Frenzy and Rip is your goal, but looking at the actual execution it doesn't seem to be happening consistently.

My opinion is that the Icy-Veins recommended rotation is excessively difficult. It literally throws away every QOL thing you can take in your talent tree - you have to maintain Savage Roar, it makes your dots tick faster so you have to apply them more often, and you don't refresh Rip using Ferocious Bite. So it's actually harder than it has ever been to play Feral with the optimal talent build. Feral is not an easy spec, never has been, but especially now you get severely punished for not having enough Critical Strike in particular, and for sure pressing the wrong buttons. I've been playing Enhancement in Legion and it is much more forgiving.

I checked your armory and it seems you switched to using Incarnation, which is not a bad call but it does require you to be AMAZING with your opener to maximize your damage in that window. Unfortunately, Jagged Wounds is far too strong not to use, even though it makes your life really rough.

I use Incarnation when I'm looking forward to do Mythic + and Normal Mythics , where because in those boss fights thats where my DPS shine. I can easily burst and maintain around 600k~ single target DPS in a 2 minute fight but it heavily drops when its a 3+ minute fight as that is when all the abilities start going hard cool downs. But even with that, it seems that Feral AOE DPS lacks heavily also without the increase swipe damage by 7% trait. This makes Feral trying to climb high in Mythic + very hard where to do high keys you need huge numbers in AoE where feral clearly doesn't have.

What is the optimal stat-line as a Feral, for example whats the Crit Cap that I should reach before focusing a lot in mastery? And how much haste I need to make sure it doesn't drop below the certain percentage.

Another question is in the Icy - Veins guide it says that Lunar Inspiration is the recommended choice but where in my opinion that Lunar Inspiration doesn't bring as much damage in single target nearly enough as Blood Scent, do you choose those talents based on the stats on your Feral?

Lunar Inspiration is also along the lines of yes it's better, at least single target, but it makes your rotation more complicated. Blood Scent smooths things out by generating more combo points passively with critical strikes, so that it is easier to keep up your rotation. It's not really a matter of hitting a certain cap - more of a comfort level with the rotation. It's my opinion that the standard build of Lunar Inspiration, Savage Roar, Jagged Wounds and Bloodtalons is too difficult for most people to reasonably execute in a raid setting. Random stuff happens, and you need to be able to react to it and act on the fly.

That said, I do like the Feral style of lining up buffs to get strong bleeds off. I recall in Throne of Thunder, I was able to do astounding amounts of damage to the bats by using the Dream of Cenarius (now called Bloodtalons) buff charges together with Tiger's Fury on Thrash and Swipe when they dropped down and just made them melt away. That kind of thing doesn't seem to work as well now. Other classes are better at pounding on groups of squishy targets.

There are some pretty good new talents for dungeons, though. Predator is awesome - you can get great uptime on Tiger's Fury. Brutal Slash is a much better version of Swipe. I'm not wild about Incarnation in dungeons, though, because the trash in a lot of cases are more dangerous than the bosses are, and not having Savage Roar hurts you outside of Incarnation.

What is the proper way to handle bleeds when you can't get them buffed with Bloodtalons or Tiger's Fury?  Apply them and reapply as soon as possible with Bloodtalons?  What about Ashamane's Frenzy?  Can I delay using it to sync it with Tiger's Fury and Bloodtalons?  If I do reapply a Rip because I now have a Bloodtalons charge, do I still need to pay attention to the 4.7 second rule (with Jagged Wounds) of refreshing it or is it better to clip it regardless since it'll be buffed?

I'm ready to give up on Feral DPS entirely because of the immense skill cap with little reward.  I'm pulling approximately 235k on single targets at 859 ilevel (usually can only manage 180-190k on AoE) .  My windwalker monk with an 856 ilevel pulls more than 100k more than that on average, and easily twice the AoE damage.

Thanks.

<Fun is for Casuals> is a serious but casual horde guild on US-Hyjal. We are serious about raiding without the intense hours. Even when recruitment status is none, we will accept exceptional applications for all classes.
Our raid times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30PM to 8:30PM server (PST) with raid invitations sent out a few minutes prior to that.
We're interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
Raid attendance is essential. We don't want people sitting on the bench but we also want to make sure we're raiding 6 hours per week. We expect you to be available for at least 90% of our raids. Be on time and prepared for raids. This includes flasks and other consumables. Discord is mandatory and a working mic is desired. You're appropriately geared for our current content. Effort and thought have been put into your gear/gem/enchant choices. You wouldn't show up for a job interview looking like a *filtered*, why would you apply to a guild with improper gems or some insane spec? You're up to date with your class. We expect our raiders to perform to the best of their abilities. You have a computer that's not run with hamster power or requires a hand crank. Some encounters are taxing on a computer's resources so if your toon can't even handle Orgrimmar it's not likely to do well with 20+ whelps that need AOE'ing. You may be interested in us because:
<Fun is for Casuals> uses the personal loot system. There is no loot council, or DKP. We won't eat your babies the first time you stand in something you have no business being in. Repeatedly do it and we'll break out the bibs and BBQ sauce. We provide a limited amount of consumables and flasks on hard mode raid nights.  Discord isn't a circus during raids. We're focused on the job at hand and you should be too. We don't want someone to miss a an interrupt because they were distracted by fart jokes. We are not interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
You roll on BoE items then sell them. Unwilling/unable to spend an entire evening on one boss during progression. While this is rare, it can happen. Drama queens. If you have a problem bring it up to E. This is his job. Don't announce it in guild chat or during a raid. Your issue will have nothing to do with 99% of the guild. You are 17 or younger. We try to keep guild and discord chat PG-13 but occasionally a few four letter words appear out of nowhere. Additionally, we don't want someone's mom interrupting their raiding to get homework or the dishes done. Follow the instructions at https://gow.gg/fun-is-for-casuals under the Recruitment tab if you would like to apply.

      Hi Team
I am recently returning from a few years away from the game and I have decided to go back to my much loved main throughout wrath, the feral druid. I have always been a cut above the rest and managed to be top dps all through wrath.
I was reading your guide and noticed in the talents you don't take savage roar. Can you explain the match behind this as to me it seems like the more viable option.

      <Tempest> of Khaz'goroth/Dath'remar is recruiting!
We are a laid back 21+ guild based in Australia for the most part. We understand that some don't have a large amount of time to commit to raiding due to real life commitments- jobs, kids, hassles etc 😛
Because of this we are dedicated to providing a stress free raiding environment 2 days per week in addition to an active social community.
Social apps are available for all classes and levels! If this sounds like the guild for you please contact us!
Previous tier progression was 1/7M and 3/3H
      Raiding info:
We raid from 8pm sharp server time Sundays and Wednesdays for 3 hours and predominantly use loot council for loot distribution.
      Recruitment openings:
1x Tank- any class - must also be comfortable dpsing
      DPS with healing offspecs
      -WW Monk
      -Shadow Priest
      -Ret Paladin
      -Enh or Ele Shaman
      -Feral or boomkin druid
We would also consider the following DPS classes without a healing OS
      DH
      warlock
      rogue
      DK
      druid
We will of course give consideration to those who fall outside our recruitment needs if you think you may be a good fit for Tempest.
If this sounds like you, or you would like some more info please pst or mail Aereth (Aereth#1439).

Intergalactic is an AOTC/Mythic progression guild now recruiting for Shadowlands raiding and M+.  We are a group of friends who were interested in the fun of raiding while understanding that life responsibilities take precedent. We are a combination of new and returning players from various expansions. While social players are always welcomed, we are more specifically looking for players who are interested in a fun, relaxed environment to progress through content. We do run M+ keys, transmog/gear and achievement runs when possible.
Intergalactic did not run as a guild during Bfa. We had members getting bored with Bfa content and decided to spend their time on other things. We did do some content with some of the guilds in our community group. Our last guild raids were in Legion. The majority of our core has come back in anticipation for Shadowlands. We are excited to be back as an active guild on Korgath and it's connected realms. We look forward to having you join us!  (Korgath is connected with  Cairne, Cenarius, Frostmane, Ner’zhul, Perenolde, and Tortheldrin.
What we expect from all of our Members:
In short, “Be excellent to each other.” We’re not looking for members filled with drama and toxicity. We’re all friends here and while we may not all agree on a particular subject, it can be discussed in a friendly, constructive, and respectful manner. A good sense of humor is a must. We aren’t looking for Members who only log in on raid days. Other events will be on the calendar, as well, and we hope that you’ll sign up and attend.
What we expect from our Raiders:
Raiders are to sign up on the calendar for events. If you are going to be late or if you will be unable to attend at the last-minute, please notify the GM, Raid Lead or an Officer as soon as possible.
Raiders are expected to log in approximately 15 minutes prior to raid start and be outside the raid with consumables and enhancements. We will provide feasts, cauldrons, and repairs. We can provide extra food, enchants, gems when available, all we ask for is either a monetary donation or help with crafting materials.
Raiders are expected to be prepared with knowledge of raid mechanics, as well as class-specific knowledge. Know your strengths and weaknesses and be willing to openly receive and give helpful constructive criticism when needed.
Raiders are expected to be progression-oriented, with the understanding that some mechanics/fights may take multiple attempts. We can’t progress through raids without everyone working as a team to try and work through the mechanics.
Raiders who are capable of playing multiple classes/specs may be asked to switch to a more appropriate character to work through particular mechanics. We maintain a smaller roster and sometimes rotate people in based on fight specifications.
Raid Days/Times: Wednesday/Friday at 8pm Server/9pm EST, possible carryover on Saturdays
Roles Needed: Ranged DPS and/or multi-spec players
      We require:
      Discord
      Deadly Boss Mods
      Details! Damage Meter (preferred)
If you think that we would be a good fit, please send a DM to Northeos, Nanami or Thawn. Or simply add us on Battle Tag.

      Northeos Btag Northe#1566
