A couple of observations from my guild's take on Heroic mode, using Zagam's tactic as basis.

 

2. Swelling Pride is dispellable and mass-dispellable. Having a mass dispel gives a huge advantage in this fight. We found that through dispelling it was easier to burn through all initial Swollen Pride stacks at once. About 40% through the initial burning, our priest mass-dispelled the dot from the raid (another good reason to stack up), while other healers dispelled those who couldn't stack up, 80% through the individual dispels arrived again, aided by self-dispel abilities certain classes have. This allows you to spawn all the adds quickly, enabling you to efficiently nuke them down all at once.

 

4. It should also be noted that there IS a change in the Split phase - if the Sha pool (in the center of the room) is left unattended, it will grow, making it much easier for the puddles to reach it. Furthermore, if a puddle does reach the pool, it will grow rapidly, likely consuming another puddle immediately and starting a chain reaction of growth and consummation. Because this means many puddles will explode at once, it will likely lead to a wipe because of major raid-wide damage. We decided to assign one tank to stand in the pool to keep its growth in check. Keep in mind that it will impair that tank's ability to assist the raid with the puddles.

Point 2 was unknown to me...this may be a huge find for us, although we don't anticipate future issues with it.  Great discovery!

 

Point 4 was known but I didn't consider it much of a change since no puddles even thought about getting close with the way our DPS and healers spread out.  Perhaps our tanks were keeping the puddle in check...either way, you are correct.

It take a few seconds for the adds to spawn, so I'm afraid that you would lose some Bloodlust uptime, if you were to do as you suggest.

 

 

As Damien said, there are maybe 5 full seconds of downtime from when the boss disappears until the adds appear, if not more, so it would be a bit of a waste.

I've had a few tries on this boss by now, and i do agree, best used at the start.

But you are a bit wrong on this, you wouldn't pop it when the boss disappears ofcourse but when the adds land the ground, but then you would have to w8 a few seconds for the boss to re-appear.

On LFR, as a tank everytime he comes back from the add killing phase I dont know if it was because of the other tank and I but I got pretty heavy damage after that phase ended...? Not sure if it was the stacks that was causing it or my gear itself.

Might well be because he deals raidwide damage for each blob that's still alive. Otherwise, I'd suggest checking you're not stood too close to him.

heroic: you only get stacks from single-target special abilities hitting the boss.  So track your stacks and their timer.  As a DK, howling blast DOESN'T give you stacks even when you target it on the boss.  So dual wield is at a huge advantage here.  Dump runic power and build up some stacks, then howling blast until they fall off.  Mouseover howling blast the adds while you keep meleeing the boss.

 

 AMS does NOT prevent stacks from building, even though it's a dispellable magic debuff.

 

 Rogues can FoK to keep poisons on the boss while stacks are dropping.

 

 Our Demo lock massacres adds, and killing them generates demonic fury for him, so other people only get on adds when they need to let their stacks drop.

Is there a reason you can't take things really slow and just spawn 1 Congealed Sha per DPS, have each DPS kill their own, spawn 1 more per DPS, have that DPS kill it, and repeat until all the stacks are removed. In this manner you wouldn't have to change your positioning and tactics at all from Normal. Does this take so long that he will end up casting Swelling Corruption again?

On progress you'd be worrying about the enrage timer really, since that does take a long time to execute.
