General Nazgrim

Recommended Posts

Killed in 10 man normal in one try (last pull of the night!)  Fight is ridiculously simplistic.  If only PvP against real Warriors was this easy.  Start off AoEing all the adds.  Focus on Nazgrim.  Kill Banners immediately.  Kill Healing Tide Totems immediately.  Kill adds immediately.

To summarize entire fight:

Kill Banners

Kill Healing Tide Totems

Kill adds that spawn immediately

Avoid spinning Axe

DON'T DPS HIM DURING DEFENSIVE STANCE

I think we lost our Resto Druid and Mage to silly things (maybe spinning Axe?).  Mage was res'd and Resto Druid died at 40% and our Disc Priest took the bull by the horns and solo healed rest of fight.  She's awesome, but that should tell you how relaxed this fight is if you do things correctly.

major omission: wave of 6 adds (normal10) that spawn at 10%

We heroed at about 12% to finish a wave of adds quickly, pushed 10%, and had a handle on those adds before the next normal spawn of adds.  Left some up, e.g. the bladestorm adds, while finishing the boss.

We just held off lust until 11%, dropped a earthbind totem and a mage ring of frost, and ignored the last big wave of adds while we burned his last 10%. The fight is *really* easy.

We also held off until around 11% then my brewmaster cotank taunted off me.

I then picked up the next set of adds, specifically the warshaman and the arcweaver and controlled them with Asphyxiate and Remorseless winter then a capacitor totem from our Enhancement Shaman while the rest focused solely on Nazgrim.

The article say 2 adds spawn at a time, what is true at the start, but after a point 3 of them spawn at a time, and as i see from the comments, there is a 6-spawn wave too. There is a pattern for this, based on boss HP% ?

Not exactly sure about the numbers but I guess either below 30% or 20%, you will get 3 adds each wave. You will get an additional wave of three adds at 10%, which normally means having around 6 adds due to the normal adds spawning. Not sure what happens afterwards since it somehow get messy and you focus on burning down the boss

THe article recommends activating Bloodlust when Nazgrim goes into Berserker stance.  I disagree, and think it should instead be activated when Nazgrim has around 13 to 11% health remaining, as many more adds will spawn during the last 10%, and you will need to burn through it as quickly as possible.

Has anyone been able to figure out if there is a pattern to the adds spawning? At least in the 2s? I feel like there is, but it is difficult to check in logs and such as their spawns don't show up, that I can tell anyway.

Well, if Nazgrim is in beserker stance around 20-25% (which he was for us the last time), you can burn him down in the 40 seconds of bloodlust very easily wink.png

My group actually uses this tactic. The reason we don't do it at ~25% is that at that stage (with our group's DPS) it's much easier to focus on surviving a couple of waves of adds and burn 10%. Our survival rates definitely go up with that tactic.

it has been my experience that shamans are not that great of a priority.. I usually 3 tank it, or have a dps with tanking capabilities handle adds.. the dps changes to adds as normal but the add priority i run is Arc weavers, Assassins, shamans, then iron blades.  The reason for this is the arc weavers and assassins do the damage.  Shamans dont do much as long as you kite them away from healing totems and interrupt chain heals.  Also, i keep a melee dps that can taunt on the boss through defensive stance... if they taunt and get the shattered defenses debuff, they wont build rage on the boss.

But about execute on heroic (3 millions physical damage) how's it possible that it's considered easy to handle? Assuming a tank (blood dk since they're the ones I know best) has 60% armor reduction, he will take 1,2 millions damage, blood presence 1.080.000 damage, I don't really know how much hp a tank should have when he tries to do heroic nazgrim, but this is VERY HIGH damage still, he would have to have bone shield up at the time to reduce the damage to 864.000, and this is NOT keeping into account sunder armor and the berserker stance 25% damage buff at nazgrim. I know of other cds like IBF and of blood shield, but chances are the boss hits to hard that blood shield is not up at the time execute hits, I agree it's manageable, just wouldn't call that easy, requires cd every execute.

Legendary cloaks will automatically allow you to live through them (per CD of cloak). Also, 3M is before armor. So its really like 1.2M already, then you just gotta put up a reasonable CD to bring it down lower, or get a secondary cooldown. I've tanked it as a 540 paladin (~900 HP raid buffed), and the only reason I died was because I never had done the fight before and misunderstood when they wanted me to taunt, thus causing me to not have CDs prepared for 1 execute. Even on that death if I was topped off I would have lived it.

As a paladin it's quite a joke mechanic, I'm not too sure about other classes.

Execute hits hard, yes, and the sudden drop in health is pretty scary but its very easily manageable as long as you know the ability is there. From a Blood DK point of view, having a bloodshield up when it hits is rly all you need to survive the blow. After that you should have saved enough runes (or BT charges to get the runes) for another DS to get to a comfortable level of health.

I'd only use any cooldowns on it if I'm in a situation where execute is coming and I'm out of runes and BT charges.
