does +60 main stats really make any difference

even a ilvl 566 heroic dagger, the gems socket bonus is only +60 agility.

 

why gems bonus stats are so low? +60 agility for a lvl 90 toon only increases its damage by what... 120? if you average do 30k per hit, does the 120 extra damage make any difference?

Well, to an elite player, any difference, is still difference. But the question u must ask in situations like that is: Is the gem + the 60 agi worth more to you than ignoring the bonus and gemming something else? But if ur only doing lfr's, no it dosnt really matter much for you.

For someone with a high item level, 60 agility can mean a few hundred DPS, so that matters to some players.

Yep. The extra attack power makes the extra critical chance more valuable, and the extra critical chance makes the extra attack power more valuable. Will you be able to tell the difference if you drop a blue Stam gem in there rather than itemizing properly? Probably not, but if your entire gear strategy is like that, you're going to notice and so are other players.

If you're doing Flex and  above difficulty  then I would  say yes, if the stat that the  socket bonus is for is of value to your spec and playstyle then  it  is worth going for. And if the more difficult the raid (or higher RBG/area) the more necessary it is to get the most out of your gear.
