Thunder Forge Help (Please!!!)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so please go easy on me……..

I know I'm far from a great WOW player, but I'm having real trouble with last stage of the solo Thunder Forge Scenario.  I can get through most of it quite easily until that damned Sha of Amalgamation!!  I've tried it nearly 50 times now and I'm starting to lose heart.  The closest I've got is brining him down to about 33% health before he just hits with way too much damage for me to heal in my rune or using bandages.

Can anyone else who's done this as an Arcane Mage give me any tips or advice?  Is there something I could do with my build to help me with this scenario?

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/shuhalo/Bralanlen/simple

I know I need a slight reforge to bring my Hit up to 15%, but do I have the right talents and Glyphs?  Is Ice Barrier better than Temporal Shield for this one?   Blink seems practically useless in this scenario so is there an alternate Glyph I could use?

I've tried setting Tell Me When to warn of Shadow Crash / Burst but I'm struggling to make it work, and Deadly Boss Mobs isn't much use at giving warnings on this one...

All advice is gratefully received!!!!!

I would advise going Frost, maybe bring a health potion. Just try to burst him down, avoiding the Sha rain thingy. I myself recall trying to destroy it as soon as possible, because I died once as well.

It might be a good idea to watch a video if you are having issues though:

What does in particular kill you?

That encounter -as much as I can remember back- is all about dodging the abilities, killing the adds and then the big add in time, before you run out of anvil charges. You can set focus on the big add to see its castings.

If you need to heal up, you can stand in the green light as well.

To start with, I would not try this fight as an arcane. You literarly have to move almost all the time, making it impossible to stand in your rune AND doing any DPS basically.

If you could somehow detect what brings you that low on health, I might be able to suggest some more specific ideas but in this case I can only suggest some general stuffs.

I would choose Blazing speed for quickly moving to an anvil in an OH SHIT scenario. Nether Tempest for dotting up everything.

Ice Barrier, because you shouldn't take any burst damage during this encounter, rather a sustained avarage damage. If you take burst damage, you will have to work on your movement skills.

Based on your gear, you should have no problems at all dealing with this, so I can only think that you are ignoring one of the mechanics that brings you so low on HP.

I really struggle with Frost but I can see why it might be easier for this scenario.  I'm gemmed up for Arcane but I might try and get myself a set of Frost Gear and gem it…..looks like I've plenty of time until WOD comes out!

I'll watch the video, thanks for taking the time to reply!

It's the shadow crash & shadow burst abilities that get me nearly every time!  You're right about movement, I do struggle as an Arcane but I find Frost very difficult to play for some reason!  I'll try and work on movement and change to NT and Ice Barrier and see if that helps.

Thanks for replying, it really is appreciated!

That's why we are here!

Let us know how it goes and if you can see any specific abilities that cause you problem, please let us know and we'll try  to deal with it together. ;)

Arcane and Frost have very similar gear, Frost putting a higher emphasis on haste and Arcane putting a higher emphasis on mastery, shouldn't be much trouble "switching" though. Make sure you interrupt the boss' casts.

When i did the scenario as an elemental shaman i seem to remember that using the charges and heals on anvils was important and let the helpful elemental spirit tank bad guys. Sorry for vagueness but good luck!

Quick update….had another couple of goes this evening on both Arcane & Frost.  Got much further with Frost even though I don't really know how to play it properly, on one go I think he was down to less than 25% health but the nearest charged anvil was just too far away to get to in time.  The biggest problem I'm having is still movement but I think I'm getting there (albeit very slowly!!)….I've noticed that even when you set focus, sometimes his spells 'instant cast' so you have no warning on the cast bar.  Heading in the right direction though!!!

Thanks for all your help so far :)

And Blazing Speed. smile.png

There are moments, when the celestial defender gets stunned and the Sha fixates on you. That's the moment when you want to use your Ice Barrier AND more importantly move the boss! You can move the boss that time closer to the next anvil, but not on the top of it. smile.png Just close enough for you to get there in time.

When the big guy comes pop all CDs, heroism, potion DPS as much as you can before the first interrupt thingy. Alternatively, you can save your Mirror images for defensive purposes, when the boss fixates on you, you can pop your images and the boss will attack them instead of you. They don't do that much damage anyway.. smile.png

Also, try to stun with deep freeze as much as you can. It not only helps you control him, but also increases your DPS thanks to Shatter. (He might be immune to stuns, I am not sure. But it's worth a try.

He is very immune to Stun :(

Spent the weekend basically learning to play Frost and had another go this evening.  I'm getting much closer, a couple of times I must have been very close!!!!  Movement is still an issue in the cluttered environment, but I'm hitting much higher DPS with Frost, and the self heal abilities make Frost much more viable for this scenario.

I'm going to have spend a day or two mastering Blazing Speed, and I think a lesson is keybinding is needed as I keep losing my mouse pointer at vital times……but I am getting closer & I won't give up :)

I agree that Frost is much easier, speaking as someone who actually DID beat it as Arcane. Took me 3 or 4 attempts, and it was kind of a pain, so I really don't advise it. I second Oltier's advice on Mirror Images as a defensive cd, and just REALLY pay attention to your anvils. Those will save your life.

Regarding keys bindings: Keep in mind that you have buttons which are bound to character panel, or seathing your weapon which are really not important to be bound. I'd suggest binding some stuff to E, R, F, G, C, V etc. These buttons are easily reachable by your pointer finger. I personally have Blazing speed on C, as an OH SHIT button to get out of fire. Clicking your buttons is a really bad way to cast spells.

I'VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!  biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png   *dances around kitchen*  laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone, especially Oltier, you are a star Sir!!!!  Should we ever meet, there is beer for you!

For any other average mages like myself struggling with this scenario I'd offer the following advice having taken about 65 attempts to do it:

  1. Don't give up - if someone as average as me can do it, so can you!
  2. It's all about movement, Frost is far easier than Arcane.  Keep moving all the time.
  3. Try and keep a 'high' camera angle, it does make a difference as this scenario is very clutered.
  4. Set Tell Me When (or whatever you use) to all his abilities, Shadow Crash in particular can hit without warning if you don't have an add-on
  5. Keybinding - I've now realised how really important it is
  6. Blazing speed made a massive difference to get to the anvils in time
  7. Plan your anvils - try pulling him round one at a time if you can

Good luck!!!!!

Been chatting a bit with Oltier about this, trying over and over again have re-specced to Frost, tried re-setting action bars, been on this quest about 3-4 days now (seems way longer), always the same result dead, I do sessions of 2-3 hours, but so far no luck.

Quest is slowly destroying my appetite for the game, and as someone who needs regular dialysis (I am not prepared to risk my health any further, by stress and raised blood pressure).

If I cant complete by 27 April, that is is for me, subscription expires.

Thanks for all the help and advice/information Oltier.

Can you link your Armory for me?

Thanks for reply Kver, sorry am not great with the technical stuff so I have no idea how to include logs, can say it is the shadow splash and the huge shadow crash that kills me every time, I find going to the healing spot usually helps with a death because the amount of extra damage I take whilst there.

To see me on the armory take a look at Beldurnik on Mazrigos server.

As I posted previously this quest is severely affecting me, stress and blood pressure, so even after just 2 hours I am drained, and often need to sleep for a few hours after my attempts.

Will be trying again later.

I found this over at the battle.net forums and it worked for me couple weeks ago.

1. Get some speed pots
2. Flask and food buff up, repair in the front door corner, wait for ALL your cooldowns
3. Pop the speed pot and zip past the Sha and start clicking on the anvils (you can click on them on the run), run on the inside track and come back around to the shaw but leave the last anvil active
4. The Sha's health is low at this point, did not have time to check what it was exactly but Pop all CD's and zerg boss down, he may cast one insanity, use the last anvil
5. at 20% health, it is over, profit

Yeah I have tried that tactic, but it does not seem to work, everyone in my guild who has done it says do not click all the anvils.

Well been at it another hour, lots of deaths probably one very 5-6 minutes, will keep trying for another hour or so, then will have to stop, as will pushed my blood pressure too high.

Thanks though Keebler.

Just had another couple of hours trying still no success, truly a game breaker of a quest, got to wonder if this maybe why subscriptions are dropping. Random Thought solo scenarios imho are a bad idea.

Oh well cest la vie, to exhausted to play again right now.

May the force be with you all grasshoppers.

Random Thought solo scenarios imho are a bad idea.

This is a part of the legendary quest line it is supposed to be hard.

Oh I understand it is supposed to be hard, but at this point I am beginning to risk my health, I am 53 suffer  from Diabetes, high blood pressure, some minor heart issues (palpitations etc), and I have to have kidney dialysis 3 times a week.

So whilst accepting that exceptionally talented and people very comfortable with macros and as Kver has said snapshotting, something I was not aware of, and therefore do not know what precisely to do and when.

For me this is a game breaker, not just hard, because the Legendary questline is central to this entire expansion.

I go away from the keyboard sweating my heart racing and my blood pressure through the roof.

These are facts of life for me I know I am probably a very bad player compared to some players, but I have little else but this game to fill my time as I am effectively housebound.
