Brief "Oh damn, I need to tank DS10HC" Section

Recommended Posts

As progression state should be over for most guilds by now more and more people will pause raids every now and again (at least that's happening for us atm). So if YOU are stuck in a situation where you find out you will have to tank DragonSoul like...NOW this guide is for you. If you want to really know what you're doing and why... go read the excellent guides on the main site :-)

Morchok:

- If you are to tank Kochrom don't use a lot of threat generating stuff with CD on Morchok but save them.

- After they split: Rush to Kochrom, burn some threatstuff on him and move him back like 30yd towards the entrance

- Try to use minor defensive CDs for when Morchok/Kochrom Stomps and a Crystal is about to explode - healers will love having to heal you less.

- Fight should only take like 3 minutes, so don't waste any major CDs until he enrages (<20%). A RaidCD at that point is a nice to have.

Yor'Sahj

- Tank and Spank for you

- You will rise to about 6 Void Bolts every ~1:15 - plan your minor CDs accordingly (DKs AMS is just lol here)

- For Red/Black/Yellow phase you might wanna use a RaidCD - depends on what your heals prefer

- If you do Red/Purple/Black your RaidCD might be wanted here rather then the other one

Zonozz

- Get aggro fast - if he runs off even for a second at the pull it'll mess up everything

- Aim him at the group; after ball spawns: turn him around

- He will hit you with huge chunk of magic damage at ~2 and ~6 stacks of the ball you should deflect No2 with a minor CD

- At 7 stacks you want the boss to 'eat' the ball--> move him into it if it comes at a weird angle; scream at your melees to GTFO

- In black phase rush to the large dildo like tentacle and tank it; boss will join you after 20 seconds or so

- The black phases (if you do 7-7-7) are apart about 2:30 so you can only help out every other one with a RaidCD: communicate with your heals

- rinse and repeat

Hagara (quite strategy dependent)

- Pull her to the edge of the room

- Announce Focused Assault to your heals

- If heal gets into Ice Grave: pop a CD for the Focused Assault

- Ice Phase: Burn down one of them pillars quickly; pop dmg-reduction-raidCD if you got any as your ranges run into the bubble

- Run around with your right hand in your pocket and hope your ranges burn down those pillars...

- Lightning Phase: Pick up the add in the NORTH

- Position yourself according to your tactic

- Once you finished transferring the lightning: GO AWAY

Ultraxion

- Fire all your CDs right at the pull, they get refreshed right afterwards

- Go up with Fading Light debuff and taunt him when your fellow tank got it (watch for the debuff you get when you return! It makes you get hit like a wimsy cloth wearing mage)

- Know your place in the Wave of Twilight soaking rotation and fire your cooldowns for it (AMS again ololol)

Warmaster

- Pick up addwave 1/3 or 2 - whatever you get assigned to and tank them (we do them at the entrance)

- While tanking be careful when soaking zones... don't overdo it

- While NOT tanking: you're the guy that can solosoak a zone even with a debuff - do so! (might need minor CDs)

- Know when to fire RaidCD for large zones

- Stun Sappers as they come when not tanking

- P2: Pick up Boss as he comes down

- Taunt at 3 stacks switching dragon+boss between you and your fellow tank

- Use personal CDs+RaidCDs at lower HPs of Blackhorn, as his Roar hits the raid hard and his Devestate will tear you apart

Spine (very strategy dependent)

Bloodtank:

- Hope you're a warri

- Taunt the blood as it shows up, tank it close to the plate to be blast open

- Rend+ThunderClap+Shockwave=Win

- Might need to kite the blood at third plate

Other tank:

- Tank Amalg away from blood; best in the middle

- Pull Amalg through the blood at ~300k HP (if your DDs are good at dmgstop; adjust accordingly)

- Pop small CDs for when you pull the Amalg as it's DPS will spike up

Madness

- Each platform takes ~2:20-3:00 so 3 minute CDs will NOT be ready for every platform; plan accordingly

- You usually need 1 major and 1 minor CD to survive the impale (gear and CD-Type dependent)

- Pick up the huge dildo as it spawns, try to position yourself so that you don't have anyone behind you

- Have the other tank taunt off once you get impaled so you don't get meleed afterwards

- When the blood spawns pick it up and tank it (preferably in the yellow bubble -> less stacks)

- P2: Just DPS like the rest - when the big adds spawn pick up both and mark one quickly; tank in timezone!

- At ~4 stacks have the other tank taunt off the adds

- Taunt back when your stacks run out (shouldn't really happen if your DPS are decent)

- Help burn down the blood when it spawns

And that's DS10HC tanking in a nutshell Posted Image Hope I didn't forget anything, if so please leave a comment :-)

Hey!

Thanks for putting this together. It certainly seems like it'd be useful for anyone interested in a quick run-through of the whole thing (people asked to switch to their off-spec, for instance).

Hopefully if anyone has anything else to add, they would do so :)

I'd like to add a few tips / tricks and modifications we've used for the heroic content.

Morchok

- Tank Kochrom and Morchok on opposite sides of the road. When using three healers (the solo healer on Kochrom's side) it's great to be back to group back up on the road so the healers can help each other out.

Yor'sahj

- We never found it viable to keep yellow alive. The fact that it duplicates everything just was not worth the loss of DPS that could be placed back on the boss, usually we always kill yellow. You will get red and green at that point, but just create a semi-circle around the boss as tight as possible.

- Pop AMS every 4-5 stacks of void bolt.

Zonozz

- Tank boss where claw spawns. Saves wasted movement and possible spew hitting someone

- Hit box for claw is small, you will be inside it.

Hagara

- If healing through focused assault is not an option then have a holy pally taunt the boss away and you can taunt it back when she gets close.

- After every feedback stun Hagara will use focused assault, this should be avoided just make sure you get back to your starting point and let her use focused assault on her way back to you.

Ultraxion

-If DPS is an issue feel free to equip some dps items (Gurthalak).

Warmaster

- AMS owns this fight for the small void pools. Every minute with a properly timed AMS and well placed pools I can take five if them by myself. AMS does not add the debuff allowing you to take another after AMS wears off.

- Stun sappers, death grip, chains of ice.

- The debuff the melee adds place on the tank do not hurt much. If rotating the adds to monitor the debuff is an issue there isn't much harm in always grabbing the same add.

Due to slight rebuilding we are going through Heroic Spine progression placed on back burner. This is not intended to take away from any of the OPs very informative post, just adding another perspective.

Just a slight comment on your suggestions for Hagara: Indeed moving away for the first focus is helpful, I usually jump away (Warri OP :-)) right before the stun runs out.

As for the taunting off... remember that she becomes tauntimmune after 5 taunts have landed i.e. you won't be able to get it off your pally when he taunts her off for the third focus. DR on taunt ends after about 20 seconds of not having received a new taunt i.e. is reset after each phase.

If I'm not mistaken this means you will HAVE to heal through at least one focused assault each phase. This should not be a problem as at least one CD should be available there.

I raid in two progression raid groups. My 1 group I'm a dk tank and just heal myself through the focused assault every time needing no CD's from myself or my healers. I'm my other group the tank is a warrior and we have our pally healer taunt off each focused assault. We make it through each phase without any issues and our tank never has to eat a focused assault.

Couple sample logs first one is on my DK tank, second one is on my rogue, tank is a warrior

Hmm now that is weird. When we first started that boss we fiddled around with the taunt strategy as well and ran into those DR problems. Seems Blizz fixed something then...

Can't get the logs where she resisted out, as they're already deleted :-/

The DR on taunt has not been removed. She can be taunted 4 times before she resists them. During the normal phase, you can taunt 2 of her 3 focused assaults, but not all 3.

The first time through she will only cast focused assault twice, the first one will be mitigated because she will cast it while running to you. The other times she will cast it three times so again the first one will be completely mitigated because she will cast it while running towards you, still making the taunt an option and a very viable one. We do this every week, it's not a problem and you won't run into taunt DR.

I can see this the first time, but the other times you're already at the boss since she has feedback for 15 seconds. Unless you let the tank run out again?

Always have the tank run back to your "starting point" before feedback ends. No need to take extra unnecasary damage.

Again: I love the warrior JUMP for that ;-)

Anyway, I checked our logs and it seems as if you're right, It seems to be only cast 3 times (4th sometimes cast but interrupted by phase transition)

Will include it in the first post :-)

      Who we are:
The Shadow Legion is an early evening raiding guild. Our goal is to try and clear the current content (Cutting Edge) as fast as we can and maintain a friendly and positive atmosphere.
We are a group of friends who enjoy playing together no matter what the content is. Our guys come from a hardcore raiding background dating all the way to TBC days. We know we can push the hardest content if we set our minds to it.
After a long hiatus from mythic raiding we are rebuilding our mythic roster to effectively start clearing mythic Ny'alotha. We currently have a very solid core group of players who have been together for a few years now. We are looking to fill our ranks with other like minded players with a background in mythic raiding and the attitude of improving themselves and the group as a whole.
We are currently 12/12HC and 5/12M looking to continue mythic progress.
      Raiding times:
      Wednesday: 17:30 - 20:00
      Sunday: 17:30 - 20:00
      Monday 17:30 - 20:00
      All times are Server time.
Times may be extended or an extra raid added during early progression if the group is willing to push harder.
We are currently trying to recruit mages as prio, but slots are open for anyone if they wish to apply.
What we expect from our raiders:
Attendance: We have a very chill raiding schedule, which is why we expect our raiders to have as close to a 100% attendance ratio as possible. We understand emergencies but if you cannot maintain close to perfect attendance then it will quickly become an issue due to time constraints.
Proficiency: We expect our raiders to be proficient with their classes and are always trying to improve. Whether it be by working on gear or going through your logs to find ways to improve, we will try our best to help where we can.
Communication: Headsets and a working mic are a must. You do not have to be talking all the time but being able to provide information quickly during a pull is a huge benefit.
Dedication: You need to have a positive attitude towards raiding and progressing. Understand that sometimes it takes time and effort to get some bosses down. We need players who are dedicated to achieve our common goal and maintain that competitive spark to push further where we can.
Feel free to get in touch with us if you have any more questions or wish to join us.

<Fun is for Casuals> is a serious but casual horde guild on US-Hyjal. We are serious about raiding without the intense hours. Even when recruitment status is none, we will accept exceptional applications for all classes. For a full list of what we're looking for check out https://funisforcasuals.enjin.com .
Our raid times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM server (PST) with raid invitations sent out a few minutes prior to that.

We're interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
Raid attendance is essential. We don't want people sitting on the bench but we also want to make sure we're raiding 6 hours per week. We expect you to be available for at least 90% of our raids. Be on time and prepared for raids. This includes flasks and other consumables. Discord is mandatory and a working mic is desired. You're appropriately geared for our current content. Effort and thought have been put into your gear/gem/enchant choices. You wouldn't show up for a job interview looking like a scrub, why would you apply to a guild with improper gems or some insane spec? You're up to date with your class. We expect our raiders to perform to the best of their abilities. You have a computer that's not run with hamster power or requires a hand crank. Some encounters are taxing on a computer's resources so if your toon can't even handle Orgrimmar it's not likely to do well with 20+ whelps that need AOE'ing.
You may be interested in us because:
<Fun is for Casuals> uses the personal loot system. There is no loot council, or DKP. We won't eat your babies the first time you stand in something you have no business being in. Repeatedly do it and we'll break out the bibs and BBQ sauce. We provide a limited amount of consumables and flasks on hard mode raid nights. Discord isn't a circus during raids. We're focused on the job at hand and you should be too. We don't want someone to miss a an interrupt because they were distracted by fart jokes. We are not interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
You roll on BoE items then sell them. Unwilling/unable to spend an entire evening on one boss during progression. While this is rare, it can happen. Drama queens. If you have a problem bring it up to E. This is his job. Don't announce it in guild chat or during a raid. Your issue will have nothing to do with 99% of the guild. You are 17 or younger. We try to keep guild and discord chat PG-13 but occasionally a few four letter words appear out of nowhere. Additionally, we don't want someone's mom interrupting their raiding to get homework or the dishes done. Follow the instructions at https://funisforcasuals.enjin.com/ under the Recruitment tab if you would like to apply.
If you have any question, feel free to contact E. at DbD#1309
