Resto shammy 521 ilvl and general questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Long story short. I just decided after awhile of being elemental to start using my resto spec again. Now mind you i have not used resto since cata and boy has it changed this is one of the reasons i stayed elemental. Never screw with my Totems! tongue.png

Anyway on to my question/s.

I have been doing a fair bit of googling on soft haste cap, soft spirit cap and trying to balance the crit, mastery and haste to make it even, but the issue is. I am only basing my guesses off my own personal preference. More haste means quicker heals, but the sacrifice on crit is pretty bad.

As mentioned i am 521 ilvl in resto, but i would love some help/guidance in regards to what should be best for my ilvl. Should i be focusing on haste or crit or mastery or balancing the three? Also what are the haste soft caps i should focus on and spirit cap i should be focusing on based on ilvl?

Because currently i am at 22.58% haste, crit is 14.95% and mastery is sitting at 46.35%. I also have 13,106 spirit. Armory link is below. smile.png

The thing that isn't sitting right with me is the mastery/crit compared to haste.

I hope some of you can help. :)

Thank you for your time,

Apoc

Hi there Apoc, thanks for coming to have a chat.

Firstly let's clear a couple of things up. Haste's benefit isn't really in the cast times; it's in the breakpoints (what you called "soft caps") where you get extra healing on certain spells for free (read more here). Also, there is no real Spirit "soft cap".

My advice to you is that you pick a Haste breakpoint and obtain that, and then pile everything else into whichever other stat you prefer. 13k Spirit is generally a reasonable value, so you should be fine there (especially with two regen trinkets! Once you get the Legendary Meta Gem you can go lower or remove the regen trinkets).

Most people prefer Crit over Mastery at the moment, so you'd be in good company if you went for more of that. On the other hand, there is no right answer when it comes to the Crit/Mastery debate - going into Mastery instead will not be a poor choice.

Just be aware that stacking Mastery will only shine when it needs to; on farm kills and in LFR you likely won't ever be able to reach Mastery's full potential.

Good luck!

yes there is no sprit cap it all depend on what you feel is good for your mana regen, haste yes give you lower cast times and that alone is amassing but it also helps with your "tick heals" riptide, healing rain, healing stream totem, and earth leveling. the crit vs mastery debate will go on for all time. you have to look at what it does. mastery =Increases the potency of your healing spells by up to 24%, based on the current health level of your target (lower health targets are healed for more).Critical Strike Rating increases your throughput and your mana regeneration. so long story short their both amasing

How are you finding it? hard for us to tell you what your should be doing with nothing to do on but your armoury.

But anyway, advice based on armory, you currently have about 7100 haste, if you could boost that to 7613+ you would get an extra healing rain tick. alternativly drop your haste back to 5676+, you have currently reforged a lot of stats into haste but missed the breakpoint by 500 which is probably a mistake

One of your regen trinkets is on use, make sure you use on cooldown or macro it into a spell.

Gearing wise try and get the 2 peice teir bonus, it is amazing, are you killing celestials + coining them every week? unlucky to get nothing from them

Edit: at that low gear level you will be getting a upgrade most days you play, I wouldnt bother reforging haste every time I get an upgrade

I am doing celestials each week dean. The only issue is i desperately need the legs to drop and yet each week for the last 3 weeks i get pvp items. Ugh. It's frustrating. I am doing lfr as well, but with minimum luck on drops atm. I am trying, but it's just not paying off.

Also agreed on the haste being 500 off the next tick. I'll drop it down to the lesser one and see how we go on loot drops. :) I am only up to secrets of the empire atm. So trying to get as many as i can from SoO and tot this week. :)

Also i would like to thank you all again for your help and advice. Just trying to get my head around all this lol. :)

Hello! I love seeing a new resto take flight!

Pouring the coming weeks you won't recognize your gear. Or your numbers on the meters. Use cheap gems and sub optimal enchants for a bit for sure unless you're rich.

My advice is try to get the crafted legs and then app to a normal guild. Orpurs for example has an academy program designed to gear and teach new or returning players and then place them into one of the heroic teams.

Are you running ten or twenty five man runs? Will this be changing? Your stats aren't bad per se but you need some polish. We can help more with more information.

The 550 ilvl pvp items are quite powerfull and an upgrade for you.

You should focus on getting into flex runs, wing one is very simple and much better time spent/reward then lfr
