1 post in this topic

In our first WoW Spotlight, we present you with Final Boss, a World of Warcraft show that airs every Sunday and usually feature two world-class players who discuss the current state of their class and give advice on how to perform best in raids.

As we announced last week in our 3-year anniversary news, we are going to have regular features on the website. WoW Spotlight is one of them and this is the first issue. This feature will be weekly and will promote a resource that we believe will be valuable and useful to our readers. As most of our readers come here for class/raiding advice and transmogrification, so we will focus on resources in these areas.

This week, we present you with Final Boss, a World of Warcraft show that focuses on classes and raid issues. The show is hosted by the jovial Bay and the delightful Anafielle, both accomplished hardcore raiders (Anafielle is our Retribution Paladin reviewer). Every week they welcome two world-class raiders to discuss the state of their class in the current tier and debate hot issues (stats, talents, rotations, etc.).

Each issue is very educational, as it gives a quick look into how some of the biggest names in the game approach playing their class at the highest level. So, whenever a class you play is featured on the show, we definitely advise you to have a look. Sometimes, the show focuses on general raiding issues, such as the world-first race or end-game tanking/healing. There are also live shows from events, such as BlizzCon 2013.

The show airs every Sunday at 1PM PST (4PM EST or 9-11PM in Europe). You can watch it live on Twitch. Every show is also uploaded to Youtube, so no worries if you missed the live. Finally, you can listen to an audio-only version on the Final Boss website.

    • Warcraft Movie: TV Spot #17, Chris Metzen Cameo, Interviews, Steelbook & Box Office
      By Zadina
In this article, we have a new TV spot, Chris Metzen’s visit on the movie set and his short cameo, a couple of interviews, images of the DVD and Blu-ray steelbox and some additional news from the box office.
Let’s start with the latest TV Spot, called “Something is coming” and brought to us once again by Comicbook.com. Those of us who have still not seen the movie truly appreciate these short glimpses into Warcraft.
Motherboard posted a video of Chris Metzen visiting the Warcraft movie set. Chris admired the weapon and armor props and he also paid a visit to the Stormwind set, where he had the chance to make a cameo as a street vendor. You can clearly see how proud and emotional is about the whole thing!

We have a couple of new interviews today. The first one is by Vanion, who is interviewing Travis Fimmel (Anduin Lothar) and Paula Patton (Garona Halforcen). Be aware: the last question contains a spoiler! The interview is in English.

Director Duncan Jones appeared on the Nerdist podcast. You can listen to the whole podcast here, while you can watch highlights of the interview and some movie footage in the end of the video below.
Reddit user thekeensoul has posted two pictures of the Warcraft DVD and Blu-ray steelbooks. Here they are:

Finally, in our previous article we talked a bit about how the movie has been received so far in the countries that it has been released. Warcraft is doing extremely well in the box office! According to Variety and MovieWeb, as of Friday the movie has made $16.3 million in international markets and it is expected to make more than $30 million by the end of this weekend. That's great news, since Warcraft hasn't launched yet in the USA and in China, as well as a lot of other countries worldwide. It looks like the risk has paid off and Warcraft is going to be a success after all...
    • Pet Battle Bonus Event (Ends 30th May)
      By Blainie
Have you already planned your weekend? Make sure you have time to take advantage of the appearance of Squirt, as well as the experience bonus for your battle pets!
I know some of you are probably fed-up with leveling your pets, but don't forget, you can always use it to make some serious gold! Our resident gold guru, Peelyon has written up a guide on making use of Squirt. Make sure to read through it, since it gives a detailed recount of exactly how to make the most of this upcoming weekend.
Outside of gold-making, the bonus event offers the same 200% boosted experience for your battle pets as normal. If you've still got pets to level before Legion, I'd recommend grabbing your Safari Hat and getting out into the world!
If you're looking for an easy way to obtain an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone, make sure to grab the weekly quest from your garrison: The Very Best. All you need to do is complete and win 5 PvP pet battles with a team of level 25 pets.
      Happy pet hunting!

    • New Class Guide Format: Feedback Needed!
      By Damien
We've recently recruited Furty from the guild Serenity to write a number of our class guides. The first step was to come up with an improved class guide format that would be more fitted to Furty's vast knowledge of the game at the highest level of content. The result of this work was a revamp of our Destruction Warlock guide to showcase the new format and we would like to hear your thoughts on it.
The biggest changes are the addition of a boss by boss walkthrough for Hellfire Citadel and a complete rewrite of the rotation and gearing page.
The boss by boss walkthrough includes summed-up strategies, tips and tricks, trinket and talent usage for each boss of Hellfire Citadel. The rotation page is now geared specifically towards Hellfire Citadel progression. With Legion, expect that section to cater to both players who are raiding Mythic content and the more casual crowd. It's just that with Hellfire Citadel having been released almost a year ago, the current focus for most PvE players these days is to finish clearing. The gearing page now features a proper BiS list as well as a lengthy trinket discussion, followed by a simulation chart that we've been working on with Azortharion (our Hunter writer). The goal is to eventually have all class guides written by players of Furty's caliber (he himself will write Mage, Rogue, Shaman, and Warlock guides). We wanted to start small with just one writer and expand the team after the launch of Legion (delegating class guides is a very new thing for us and we want to make sure we get it right). That said, we've already recruited Azortharion to write our Hunter guides in Legion, using the same format. He's been reviewing our Hunter guides for several years now and since he's also writing his own guides (and has been very successful at it), we felt it would make more sense if he just took over the Hunter guides.
So, any thoughts on the new class guide format?
We're recruiting top players to write our class guides and we're interested in your feedback on the new format we'll be using!
    • Warcraft Movie: Gul'dan and Durotan Spotlight Videos, Yogscast Cameo, Reception
      By Zadina
USA Today concluded its week of presenting the protagonists of Warcraft with its videos on Gul'dan and Durotan. Now, all we need to do is wait for the movie to be released worldwide!
The Gul'dan featurette was released yesterday. We see the evil warlock, portrayed by Daniel Wu, siphoning the life out of his victims. In my opinion, Gul'dan doesn't come across as evil as he actually is. Obviously, this is just a 1-minute video and in the movie he is probably the badass we all love.
Placeholder for tweet 735828494937034752 The noble Durotan is the last character to be introduced. The video features some amazing CGI, as well as the whole process of capturing Toby Kebbell's expressions: they actually drew 150 dots on his face each time!
Placeholder for tweet 736191329621839872 As we reported previously, starting today you can buy the official soundtrack of the movie on iTunes. The whole album costs $9.99 and it is composed by Ramin Djawadi, also known for writing the music of Game of Thrones and several popular movies.
The Yogscast had a hilarious video of their visit to the Warcraft movie set. There, they took directions from director Duncan Jones and actors Toby Kebbell and Rob Kazinsky.
Last time, we also talked about the reactions and the reviews for the movie last time. There is nothing new to report: more or less, critics are being quite negative about it, whereas fans absolutely love it. What's important is that a lot of people see it, so that fans can get the rest of the trilogy Duncan Jones has envisioned. On that front, we have some very good news! In Germany, Warcraft had the best launch day of the year (source), while in China it is expected to be one of the most best-selling movies ever (source).
If you have watched the movie, let us know what you think of it! Personally, I still have to wait ten more days for it!
    • Legacy Server Meeting with Blizzard!
      By Blainie
Mark Kern recently had his meeting with Blizzard regarding legacy servers. Check out what he had to say afterwards!
While this isn't the official meeting between Blizzard and the team of Nostalrius, Mark Kern has been a huge presence in the push for legacy servers. As a former employee, he worked on WoW as the team lead and helped to complete many other titles for Blizzard.
Some of you might remember his open letter to Blizzard, in which he openly asked for a meeting with Mike Morhaime. This has finally come true and, while Mark is bound to an NDA, he gave a huge recount of some of the points on Twitter. You can check out his tweets directly on his Twitter, or read a transcript of everything he wrote below:
So, while he can't give us specific details, it seems he is coming out of this meeting feeling extremely positive. Much more will be discussed with the Nostalrius team, but this is still a huge step forward. For those of you supporting the legacy movement, I'm sure you'll be feeling much happier after this!
