Need help with DPS

13 posts in this topic

Hi folks,

I'm having trouble getting good numbers raiding. In fact let's be honest. My DPS is bad. Using wowprogress SIM (292K)  I'm underperforming by some 50-100K. My DPS is esp bad for the gear I've been getting. Strange to say but my DPS hasn't really changed from when I joined the team with a 561 ilvl to what it is now with my 570 ilvl  .

So I've made 2 adjustments right off the bat which I hope will improve my DPS. I've dumped the H shoulders and chest from Nour and Prots and put on the other 2 pieces of the tier set which will give me the AoE buff and I've switched my tier 5 talent from Holy Avenger to Sanctified Wrath.

I raid again Tuesday so I have time to make more adjustments. I hope you folks will be able to give me some pointers if you'd be so kind. My DPS is so bad that I consider myself a brand new student of the class So plz don't edit your feedback

Looking at your armory it's not terrible, you are about 2.5% over the 40% haste cap (unless you're trying to go for the 50% hard cap)  so you could turn some of that into mastery.

Looking at your logs the big thing I'm seeing is this: Your inquisition uptime is low, are you using an addon to help track this? I'd also like to know your general spell priority and rotation. Along with that, I see you're using SW but on a fight like Sha of Pride, your HoW damage is low on the charts, when with SW it should be one of your top 5 especially with an EoG.

hi Auriel

ty for your reply

Yes I am using an addon (tell me when) to track Ing but obviously I'm not using it very well. I thought I was doing a decent job keeping Ing up . I will have to be sharper on that, maybe move it from left of screen over chat frame to center of UI so I can't miss it

I have not been using SW. I've been using HA. I just made the switch to SW yesterday.

My general spell priority and rotation needs work I think. To put it in a nutshell, I am opportunistic. No set order. I know  I need to tighten up on my rotation. Generally, if the spell is available I use it in order to generate HP to get to TV. That said I try to use CS if it is available as it is my most powerful spell outside of TV. Going over the Icy Veins guide I can see I need to start taking advantage of boundless conviction. I can also see from the guide and my own analysis that I need to use Hammer of the Righteous more I've been using it rarely and almost exclusively for Gal. I am going to start using it for 2 targets instead of saving it for 5 or so.

I'm going to take your advice and reforge out of some Haste into a little Mastery. I've been using Ask Mr Robot

Generally, some people might kick me for this idea and other's may think it's good advice it all depends. In my opinion, CLCRet is an amazing tool to help you LEARN a rotation. I started out with it to learn the rotation and because I don't like change in my UI it's still there, but it's also there because I built my weak auras for Inquisition/holy power and other cd's around the addon itself. So removing CLCRet from my UI just makes things look awkward. I also use it however to remind me in the event I tunnel on a job that I'm assigned to do or something else of procs such as the 4 piece for Ret, and when inquisition has less than 6 seconds left. Aside from that I completely ignore the actual rotation part of the add-on itself. CLCRet used properly as a tool is a very handy thing to have, however if you use it blindly and stare blankly and tunnel on it and let it do all of your thinking for you, you're doing it wrong. Anyone that's seen my stream has seen my UI and can tell that I almost completely ignore the addon itself. I have it setup to track both my Guardian of Ancient Kings, and my Avenging Wrath, and I have a notification for when my Execution Sentence comes off of CD.

I don't suggest downloading this addon and using it simply to do the rotation for you so to speak, but it can be an extremely helpful way to show you what you should/could be doing differently. At times you're going to do things completely different from what the addon suggests. Pooling holy power for big aoe phases, or huge burst phases and timing them with trinket procs, pots, heroism/bloodlust and other major cd's is something you're going to master over time. But CLCRet is a good start to get you on your feet.

Also you're 1.5% over hit cap, which could be from the belt and the sorropath signet. Try to go for the Demolisher's Reinforced Belt off of Iron Jugg, and the Crit/Haste ring off of Spoils and you should be good to go.

This is a link of how I used to have my UI setup. It's changed a bit since then, however the CLCRet/Weakauras setup is the same. just moved around.

Thanks Daltek I'm going to give CLC Ret a try since TMW wasn't helping me very much

One question about Sanctifgied Wrath. Are you supposed to use it whenever it becomes available or do you always wait for GoAK to be ready before you pop it so you can get the buff from GoAk as well.

Thanks

Like I said, don't train yourself to stare at it, just use it as a suggestion tool. Following it blindly isn't the idea of the addon itself, it's just been created to help people out learning the rotation and getting the flow down.

As far as GoAK/AW go, waiting to use AW when the next GoAK comes up is wasting about 45 seconds-1min of the actual Sanctified Wrath benefit. The whole point to SW is popping AW immediately and going on a Hammer of Wrath spree. Don't wait for GoAK because if you use AW as soon as it comes up, it's going to line back up with GoAk or maybe just a couple seconds off in a couple of cd's anyway.

For clcret there's an option in the interface menu where you can edit the rotation suggestion, and if you're using Sanctified Wrath and have the four piece, this is the line I suggest using: inq ds_4t16_5hp tv5 how ds_4t16 tvaw cs j exo tv4 tv3

Thanks Daltek No I wasn't going to stare at it lol I think staring at CLCRet is the least of my worries considering how little I been looking at my other addon, tmw, which I been using up till now to track Inq.

Thank you for the CLCet line I do have the 4 piece and I will be glad to use your line

As far as lining up AW and GoAK, I was wondering whether there might be a net  DPS gain waiting for GoAK to come off cooldown before using AW but I was hesitant to do that since the CD's are separated by some 40 seconds meaning AW is lying there dormant for a pretty long time in DPS terms Just firing up AW when it is off CD means you will be using AW/GoAk simultaneously every other AW

I wrote a simple macro:

/cast Avenging Wrath

/cast Guardian of Ancient kings

/cast Execution Sentence

Thanks for your help

That should be a decent enough macro to save some space, also keep in mind that you might want to save Execution Sentence until your trinkets proc, you'll get more benefit out of them. The big difference with SW and Divine Purpose is you essentially pop AW with GoAK no toe stepping. With Divine Purpose you save AW for about 7-10 seconds that way you get the full benefit of the GoAK Strength buff along with AW, and then you can pop your Execution sentence with it.

Anytime on the help, I'm excited to offer advice on a class I enjoy playing.

Yeah been toying with DP For now I think I'm going to stay with SW. I'm finding it difficult to get used to using SW so who knows. Might try DP at some point

What do you think of saving that macro for my Evil Eye of Galakras proc? It has a 55 sec cooldown

Personal experience, I wouldn't macro execution sentence to AW/GoAK. You're all ready saving one button by consolidating both cd's down to 1. I'd just wait until EEoG is proc'd along with your TTT, your GoAK is stacked up, AW is up, and then pop it. It'll hit like a truck then. If you're not THAT worried about min maxing it, you're perfectly safe dropping ES on your main target as soon as your AW/GoAK is up. You just may/may not miss out on nearly 20k extra strength on it.

Divine Purpose however is mainly designed for aoe fights. Galakras, Spoils, and if you use it properly you can pad pretty hardcore on Immerseus if you just want some fancy add damage. I HAVE used it on Protector's if they're stacked properly, but I'd still go with AW. I've even used DP on normal Garrosh as well, because you can't always depend on the Iron Star to destroy the adds.

It's all personal preference but if there's a fight where there's a lot of adds to kill, Divine Purpose is so much better than SW, but single target SW is way ahead.

I noticed something else when looking at your logs just now, there's honestly no point whatsoever in swapping between Seal of Truth, and Seal of Righteousness. Theoretically it's supposed to be a dps increase. Realistically, stay in Seal of Truth at all times.
