New Destro Lock help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently boosted my lock from lvl 60 (the day the boost came out) and up until now I have enjoyed it. However right now I feel like I need to create a thread since I really have hit a brick wall that I am unable to pass through whatever I do...

Let's start off with the basic things, my gear is mixed and I don't have the legendary cloak yet which I know adds a lot to the DPS itself. Here is the link to my armory:

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/bloodscalp/Rawsons/advanced

I have read insane amount of guides and applied everything, all my gear is enchanted, reforged and gemmed according to MrRobot. My rotation is based on the icy-veins rotation guide and I use every buff possible (food, flask) and I am using GoSup.

Now to the actual problem: Really good stuff in raid finder, top of the list and everything goes flawless. Along comes Flex or Normal raid and everything gets ratshit. I am being called a slacker and/or kicked from the raid, and I am dealing 110k-120k DPS MAX!

With AoE mobs I am usually useless, I get off a rain of fire and start casting other stuff, halfway there and the mob is already dead.

So yea, any help on this? I am unable to attach logs at the moment, but hopefully someone can give some advise, I am really feeling stuck.

Here are 2 graphs from Recount (on dummy, so without some shadowburn):

So, first things first: holy shit, some form of logs!!

Ewww.... Not hit capped...

Now [insert locky rant on how bad amr sucks.]

Alright, we've got the obligatory stuff out of the way. Lol.

Your dps on a dummy is never going to be right. So the logs aren't particularly useful, but good try. I get where you're going with them. First, your trinkets are dogshit. FCoR is god awful. TI trink is alright, but with just the 496 version, you're hurting. Chaos bolt damage seems a little low, but I'm also not accounting for the poor int procs, so I'm not 100%. In a nutshell, It's hard to tell specifically, but I'm guessing gear is a pretty inhibiting factor. To put it into perspective, 5 ilvls is about 50k dps for me, on a patchwerk fight.

All joking aside, not being hit capped, as destro, is huge! One missed chaos bolt is a ton of lost damage. I notice you're using artful oranges instead of keen. Change that, or whatever you have to do to hit 15%. Hit cap for aff is nice, but not a massive massive dps loss if you're aware of when you miss. (Still advocate it btw!!) As destruction, not having it can make your dps more rng-y than a fire mage.

As for aoe, that could come down to any number of things. Including poor keybinds for things like fire and brimstone, and/or havoc. It also hurts, a bit, that your haste is so low. I, personally, find it easier to play with a higher haste build, but you'll want to amass a bit more gear before making the push to 30% haste more than likely. It's also reasonable because in flex especially, things die extremely quickly. RoF, for lower haste builds, is also less effective. Even at high haste levels, It's more a cheesey ember generator than a big dps increase.

When you say "top of the list in lfr", do you mean "nobody in lfr does 120k dps." Or "I pull 150k in lfr"?? The two are very different. Ultimately logs are going to tell the story, so you should find those, but if your dps drops by 40k in flex, it seems most likely you are having issues with the mechanics. Taking ad over kjc doesn't help that problem either. This is fixed by becoming more familiar with the rotation, and movement within the fights. Also consider that you may not have every buff in ever flex group. you tend to, but that's not necessarily universal.

My judgement, personally, was that in ij and malk, I should pull 95% of my patchwerk, simcrafted dps on average. Can't run you through to compare atm, but that tends to be an alright benchmark for "I don't totally suck at my class." If you update with logs, and when I get a chance to compare you to a robot, I'll take another gander.

Good luck!

Thanks, it is a good start at least! I will probably have some logs available on Tuesday during next raid which I can upload.

For the trinkets, grinding timeless coins for the upgraded version of the timeless trinket, and will get Purified bindings of immersus - however it won't drop hehe.

I am quite new to the game overall (yea sick that someone can actually be new to Wow :)) ), so AMR is currently helping a lot. I will get 15% for hit cap.

Altogether, would 120-150k be a disaster with that ilvl and gear?

My memory tells me you're doing similarly to what I was at that ilvl. (Only came back to the game in 5.4 myself). But that comes with the caveat that I got a very early pbi, and was bad. Similar to my memory. Lol.

I know how it is gearing up a character, so don't get too frustrated there. Good players are good no matter what. I highly recommend taking kjc over ad as your 90 talent though. It'll help you tremendously until you're comfortable with the encounter mechanics, and even afterwards on many fights.

Truth be told, amr isn't that bad. Esp for what you're doing. Heck, I still use it as my baseline, and just go through and fix what it got wrong manually. The issue is mostly that It's stat weights aren't good, and it sometimes miscalculates. That said, spend some time around here, and you'll find out enough about stat priority and the two destro reforge strategies, and it will be easy to fix manually. Locky likes to make a huge thing about it, and while I agree that I hate the claims it makes, you're fine using it for now, assuming you're making sure it gives you hit cap, and doesn't do anything else immensely stupid.

Hi,

I recently boosted my lock from lvl 60 (the day the boost came out) and up until now I have enjoyed it. However right now I feel like I need to create a thread since I really have hit a brick wall that I am unable to pass through whatever I do...

Real logs please. Screens of recount is a nice try but they don't make up for the real thing at all. Uploaded to warcraftlogs is best.

Your damage is going to suck. Not really a LOT you can do about that right now other then get more gear, Your trinkets blow, no meta, no cloak, you're kind of screwed.

Drop AD, KJC is worth more.

Get your hit cap.

AMR in theory, and even in practice for some classes, works fine. For warlocks there are some major issues that AMR has ignored for a long time. In theory, it should work just fine. But it will commonly give really goofy results, even with custom stat weights put in and everything set up right. Baseline, it incorrectly values haste more then it should and undervalues hit. Even with stat weights put in and having AMR set to force hit cap, it will sometimes just...not.

The reason this annoys me so much is that AMR is a monetized site that bills itself as something that is built for people that are new and don't know what they are doing. But the problem is that it is commonly wrong. How wrong? *normally* only by a little, maybe +/- 1000 stats. The real impact on DPS from this will *normally* be small, but its still wrong. Wrong is wrong and its wrong in a way that can be fixed fairly quickly.

I hate AMR 90% on principal and 10% because of its wrongness. I highly recommend trying ReforgeLite for your reforging needs (make sure to ignore the pre-set and to set the prioritization to hitcap>mastery>haste>crit or crit>haste). Gemming is simple, you don't need a program to tell you how.

Thanks a ton for your help. Got the first two things sorted out, talent swap to KJC and hit cap fixed.

Locky: Working overtime on cloak and trying to get the trinket as well. Working on getting Purified bindings of immersus and Kardris.

Also, about real logs: I know recount sucks, it was just an example really. Once I can post I will show logs as well :)

Anyways, thanks for the help so far. At least I know what to start to fix! Will keep stuff updated and see.

Bumping a bit, logs coming soon (upload in progress from yesterday :) ), and an update to my armory:

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/bloodscalp/Rawsons/advanced

As you can see Kadris's totem finally dropped but only on raid finder.. Oh well, better than the previous one. Still trying to get the one from immersus, but I am really unlucky it seems.

Anywho, thanks a ton for the help so far. I have managed to add a lot to my game and damage/dps increased significantly. Still lot to work on tho :)

Keep at it - logs help the most in diagnosing issues.  A mechanic couldn't fix a car by looking at a picture of it unless it had no wheels...

Sha of Pride:

Click this and see what I see. This isn't to bad, you mostly casted with procs and/or DS. Note the top graph, that shows your Embers. You sat at 4 embers for a long damned time.

RoF was used well, Immolate was used well, Shadowburn is a little weak. Try and use it to snipe adds for Embers. Zero casts of Havoc, use this on the big add in the back.

 Iron Jug:

Again you sat on four Embers for a REALLY long time. This cost you a huge amount of damage. Other than this, things look well. Immolate, SB, CB with procs, etc.

Over all you didn't do to badly. Stop sitting on Ember cap and tweeking the other things will go a long way.

Thanks a ton, I was expecting it to be lot worse. Guess it will be even better when (and if, sigh..) I ever manage to get ANY version of Immersus trinket, plus working on T4 and on last part of cloak as well..

Sha: tried to get the ads as fast as possible, but this is a 25m run - 95% of ads were dead by the time I could reach them basically :) For the embers, will try to get them off and not stacking on 4 so long, thanks.

Iron Jug: I think (not sure tho) that was the knockback phase + bombs. I simply couldnt stay still to let a chaosbolt go.. Still working on dynamics etc.

Anywho, thanks for the help, as I wrote I thought it would be much worse. I am happy with this overall :)

When adds are dieing that fast I try to precast RoF, hard cast a non backdraft F&B Incin while the adds are spawning, then double F&B  conflag once they are up.  Then I havoc boss and snipe some shadowburns.  Havoc will be backup again in time to havoc a SB to add in back.  If you are lucky you will get agro on an add and proc Backlash for an instant cast F&B Incin :D

This usually leaves you with full emebrs to dump CB's into boss after adds drop.

I do exactly the same thing! :) When the black shades of the puddles appear before the split I mark 1 or 2 (sometimes you can get 2) and get a RoF in advanced

Oh well, will try the other things as well.

Blackfuse gives shoulders. Sha gives chest.

Ideal offpiece is shoulders, either Norushen or Fallen Protectors.

Yea typo, dunno why I wrote that. :) Should be shoulders from Blackfuse obviously, already have chest from protectors. I need coffe, lots of it.
