Quick Enhance Question!

16 posts in this topic

Hello and thank you for reading this whenever you get a chance!

I am new to Enhancement and I am slowly gearing him up and I was wondering if I should glyph for glyph of fire elemental totem along with primal elementalist? Would it be worth while to have it unglyped?

I hope I made myself clear enough

Thanks for any answers!

For the most of the time; you dont need the glyph to be honest. But can be useful depending on the fight, check the sticky enhance thread about it.

It depends on the rest of your build, actually.

Do you have an Assurance of Consequence?

Do you also spec into Elemental Mastery?

If both of these are yes, then glyphing it and only hitting Elemental Mastery when Fire Elemental Totem is ready can often be a gain.

If no to either of them, I would keep it unglyphed, as long as the fight allowed the full minute of uptime on your target.

It's dependent on the fight mechanics. I glyph it for things like Immersus, because within that first minute we have him submerged and I'm losing some single target to the little adds, which I can very well keep up with the AOE dmg. but I can usually pop my FE totem every other time the boss pops up. But for fights like Jugg, or even shamans. I keep it unglyphed. All just depends on the fight and if you can make the best use of AOC's timer.

^ What Hybrys said.  The only gain you can get from it is if it allows you to stack cooldowns better (or if you need short burst every two-ish-minutes; heroic protectors, for example).  Otherwise, it is at best dps-neutral, and can cause you to lose uptime at certain fight length (specifically, when it lets you use it an odd number of times.)

Stacking it with every Elemental Mastery (with AoC, its CD gets within 20 seconds of that, and better the higher ilvl your AoC) is very fun and quite powerful.  If you aren't doing the full EM-PE-AoC stacking, though, I would generally advise against glyphing it.

Thank you for the reply!

I currently am rocking Elemental Mastery but I have failed to get the AoC Trinket. Is it still worthwhile to have the glyph or should I remove the glyph?

I would remove the Glyph, and instead make your Elemental Mastery line up with your next Fire Elemental Totem.

So you'd use Fire Ele and Elemental Mastery together on the pull, then Elemental Mastery again at 1:30, 3:00, then hold it for the 5:00 window.  (Though it would come up at 4:30).

Alternatively, if a fight is typically killed in under 6 minutes, you can also glyph it and use them together like this:

Fire Ele / Elemental Mastery on the pull

Elemental Mastery again at 1:30

Then Fire Ele / Elemental Mastery at 3:00.

To piggy back on this thread, how is Elemental Mastery best used?

I have AoC Heroic 4/4, useing EM + PE.

Should I be delaying it ever to sync with Ascendance? FET lasts 1 minute so it usually benefits either way.

I can't remember atm, but there's a point where Dextrous, EM and Ascendance all align, but you need to delay EM around 30 seconds. Is this ok?

How about delaying it for Ascendance every time?

No, delaying by ~33% isn't going to be a DPS gain, although it may not be a DPS loss either.

What I would recommend doing is glyphing FET, and only using EM and FET together, not holding them for anything else.  This is shown to be the better gain w/ a H AoC and PE, and Fire Ele should be your highest damage source with that.

If you were interested in trying UF, then I would hold EM & FET to line it up with Asc.  UF may be slightly better after you get Heroic weapons, 2pc T16, and a significant Mastery value.

Alright thanks.

I did sim PE vs UF and PE came out about 8k ahead.

Sitting at 21k mastery raid buffed with 2 582 weapons and hc AoC, but the rest is pretty bad geared. Using 2 intellect items still as opted to switch from ele to enhance.

I'll give the glyph a whirl once I'm back home. Thanks.

That's kind of odd, since I thought UF came ahead pretty quickly after you get the 2pc T16 and heroic weapons.

Just to be 100% sur that the 2pc T16 is simmed appropriately...  Did you notice 'Frostbrand Weapon' anywhere in your damage breakdown?  If yes, it's right.  If no, it may be undervaluing or not calcing the random Unleash it gives.

Sorry should have clarified, but I don't have 2pc t16 yet. Only rerolled to enhance this week after picking up Garrosh 1h heirloom and not having any other alt to use it with.

Also, would you still use glyph of FET on a bloodlusted pull, or better to just sync it with EM all the time?

Gotcha.  That makes much more sense.

Yes, it's going to be better to sync with EM at all times.  Even on a Bloodlusted pull, glyphed is the way to go.  You may find some flexibility where a 1 min duration can have higher uptime than the 30sec duration, and it may come ahead in that case, but it would be rare.

I have a somewhat tangential question--

Sometimes I'll be in a raidgroup with a shaman who did good DPS, and so I'll mouseover his meter to see what brand of shaman he is (to see his top 3 damage sources I mean). More than once I've seen a Top 3 Sources that looks something like:

  1. Greater Fire Elemental: Attack
  2. Auto Attack
  3. Greater Fire Elemental: Burninate (or whatever)

Does that sound possible? If so, I take it these shaman are using the build described in this thread? It seems kinda funny to think that so much of one's damage can come from "outside" of the rotation that you are spending 99% of your time performing...

Oh yeah, that'd be the build I'm describing.  The Fire Ele seems to scale dramatically with Haste, and you also scale well with how fast he hits due to Searing Flames.

You do also have to be aware that someone's auto attack being so high is probably the result of good Unleash Elements (Unleash Wind) usage, as well as not hardcasting Lightning Bolts too aggressively. too often.  It's all a fine balancing act... Except that 25%+ of your damage is a single cooldown.
