Malkorok opener healing

I just started healing SOO with a full pride holy pally regemmed for PVE and as far as healing output/efficiency I'm not having any trouble on normal SOO in general, but Malkorok is kind of unique to me as a pure PVPer.

 

 

In PUG's, everyone starts the fight spread out to cover the puddles (except tank/melee), but the puddles don't come out until after 20+ secs after the first Arc Smash right?  

 

I was thinking, wouldn't it be better if everyone collapsed to the middle but still in their quadrant for puddle coverage for the first 15 secs with the lust opener so that healers can heavy spam AE's to start the fight with 100% shield on every player?  During lust and my INT procs, I could spam shock on tank, HR, HR, EF on tank - repeat X 4, THEN everyone spreads out for the rest of P1.  This should more than cover all the dmg in the first 20 secs of the fight so we would all start off >90% health with a 650-1000k shield to make P1 easier.  (of course the 2nd healer would also be doing something similar).

 

Since I'm not in a guild and I just see what PUG's do, wanted to see what "good guilds" actually do for this fight.  Is there any major negative to middle stacking for the first 15 secs?

There is a big negative to stacking, and that is that you can all get knocked up about 8 seconds into the fight.

 

Now, stacking for a good 3-5 seconds before spreading out isn't a bad idea, and some guilds do that... But typically it's an unnecessary precaution, with no real damage (besides the negligible ticking aura).

 

Alternatively, you could also just get everyone to eat a Healthstone right as the Ancient Miasma debuff is applied (0.5 to 1 seconds into the fight) and that should give you a healthy buffer to start getting shields on everyone.

ahh, i forgot about that knock up mechanic.  thx for the tip on the healthstone, sounds like a great idea.

 

so i guess most holy pallies alternate between shock and HR on the tank to cover the tanks and melees, then try to spread out the EF's for all the ranged as a standard approach?

 

most of the encounters on normal seem to be pretty easy to heal just jumping into the fire and responding to the situation even for a new PVE'er, but i'm still trying to learn how the advanced players optimize each encounter.

 

another related question to this encounter - for bear druids, since the typical massive over-healing from FR with high vengeance doesn't goto waste until after the 1M+ absorb, do you think it's more optimal for bears to just continuously spam 20-30 rage FR's to replete the shield as it goes down vs trying to dodge with SD and risk 100% hit vs miss?  just accept that you will never avoid a hit but put massive resources into maintaining the shield?  with the 4-set stacking hot and spammed FR's it seems the bear shields would be almost OP.

Our pally actually mostly skips HR, and instead runs a big EF blanket with DL filling in the spots.  His HR just wasn't effective, with it only hitting an average of 2.1 players per tick.

 

For bears, we have an amazing one in our guild, and she seems to swap depending on where they are in the encounter.  Towards the end of her stint tanking, she'll use mostly SD, trying to avoid the larger debuff-powered hits.  Any other time, she'll dump with FR.  If they're high enough geared, they can most likely SD and FR, keeping SD mostly on cooldown, because they generate rage so quickly.

From a Holy Pally POV, I blow a couple CD's early to help fill up the raids HP Buff. I first pop GotAK and spam as many players as I can. Once the buff is gone I'll pop Holy Avenger and use either HS, DL on Beacon or HR on melee to get 3 HP and then blanket the raid with EF. Once all this is done I'm sitting at about 50% mana or so and pop Divine Plea and start conserving mana doing more spot healing on players.

 

This also allows AW and DF to be on reserve and use when necessary.
