New Holy Pally Healer LF Advice

Recommended Posts

Not that this is the best, but I wrote an article to help some healers on my team who felt the same way about meters: http://perfectstorm.enjin.com/forum/m/1102518/viewthread/13914343-healing-team.  Don't let meters be your guide.  Check some of Geoda's logs and see if your spell selection and frequency is similar.  Also, would recommed reforging most of your spirit into mastery if possible.  Run a raid and see if it helps.  But again, don't lose sight that healing is a team effort.  We are the offensive line of WoW.  You have to be a team player.  I know it can frustrating when DPS post logs and you feel on the short end.  But remember, the point of logs for healer is much different than DPS.  I hope this helps.

Being a new pally healer I would love to read your post. Unfortunately I don't have permissions. sad.png

I recently decided to get into healing and I've always enjoyed the holy pally style the most. I've experimented with more mastery and the 7170 haste break point even though I'm using SH. I've had some decent success but I feel like I'm not using my cd's enough. I'm also using a soft cap of 11k spirit but I'm thinking that may still be too much. Any tips on how any of you were able to zero this in would be helpful. I do feel all this will come in time and I've even joked with my guildmates that I'll get this all down right before the 6.0 patch drops and changes everything lol.

Here is the article:

Healing Meters: Believe Them or Not?

We had 5 healers show for Wednesday and 6 show for Thursday.  We also have Seraphymm when he is available to raid.  It's encouraging to see our healing team growing.    I agree with Ilios that as our gear has been increasing, our ability to heal has skyrocketed!

As our team increases in number and improves in gear and ability, we get closer to progression and heroics!  However, there are some drawbacks.  One is gauging your healing based upon the healing meters.  I have had this discussion with several healers who feel awful about their numbers and ranking on the healing meters.  I had the same conversation with Ender when I started raiding.  Healing logs have their benefits, but they can cause confusion as well.

Compare my healing done in these logs: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-5vsjkx1kjatmd323/sum/healingDone/ and http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-e7s0zcanukypgaqf/sum/healingDone/.  The first is 10H on Tuesday and the 2nd is 25R from Wednesday.  There is no difference in gear. There was simply more for me to heal on Tuesday night.  With 5 healer on Wednesday and less damage then heoric, there was was less damage to be healed.  Also, we had Malandra healing as disc priest as well.  Their absorption shields count first, then heals will register.  So to make a short story long, I did nothing different but my 'performance' changed drastically based upon number of healers to damage and composition of raid healers.

A better metric to gauge your healing is to see if you are using a similar number of spell and your spell are in the same ranking as a good player.  I've views some of Okham's Razor and Free Agent logs to compare  my healing to other holy pallies.  If I have the same frequency, spell selection, and priority of heals but have a lower HPS due to gear level; I am healing properly.  If my spell selection is different and flash of light is my #1 heal, then I need to adjust.

This is why WarcraftLogs is one of the best tools for analysts is now, being able to look at your breakdown by casts is incredibly helpful, and makes me wonder how I even survived the WoL era.

Yup. I used to use CompareBot for log analysis between players. But with WarcraftLogs it does it all for you and cleaner and more accurate.

I've been looking forward to analyzing some logs lately so hopefully Astano can post them soon.

Also to counter Khror's point on similar spell selection etc.. this really only works with Holy Shock, Judgment (if using Selfless Healer) and Holy Prism. The rest of our abilities are more reaction based and is something we look at with spell activity and overhealing.

Healing is a very touchy subject and I believe that the first and best thing to do is theorize  situations and understand what is the most optimal route to get there... let me explain a quick example:

You are in a 25 man setting such as Thok with everyone stacked, including tanks and range. There is constant damage being taken and you need to heal them as high as possible before their next damage spike. The obvious spell of choice is Holy Radiance. You can spam this spell everytime and give the best HPS. However.. you'll run out of mana quickly. Since Holy Radiance gives Holy Power, you may use Light of Dawn after you have generated 3+ Holy Power. Again.. however, you are not making use of your Daybreak procs. Since it only stacks to 2, you should throw a Holy Shock in the mix. However, again, if you are not using Eternal Flame talent, you're using Selfless Healer talent, so you'll probably be wanting to use a Judgment to gain the % buff from this talent.

If we take it a step further, would you want to use Holy Radiance on different players? Yourself? Tanks? What is the best rotation for this that helps conserve mana but give high enough sustained throughput to be valuable?

There are so many options to heal, we just need to figure out the best way to get there.
