[Elemental] When to start using Unleashed Fury

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So my question is pretty simple and I apologize if this has been answered in a previous thread but I am curious as to when I should replace EB and PE with UF for most encounters.

IV guide recommends heroic gear levels but at what threshold is recommended? What ilevel minimally is required to where UF becomes better to use for single-target encounters?

Thanks and I hope you can help.

Regards.

It's not a ilvl so much as it is a mastery threshold; mastery loses value for EB past 87.4% (which is where you hit 100% with the extra rating from EB).  When you get near that point, UF can overtake EB on single-target encounters if used perfectly.  Rather than advising any particular mastery percentage or ilvl, I encourage you to import your character into simcraft and see which has the highest dps for your particular gear and race.  If you provide an armory link I can do it for you, but it's really simple to do yourself too.

Remember that there's also an important skill cap required to successfully execute an UF rotation as well. While it is better when executed perfectly, you will need to practice a lot to get the best out of it. Some people find that their DPS drops for the first few runs while using UF. Just a warning! :)

I usually characterize the threshold at which to try out UF as when you're around 570 ilvl, with a H or HWF weapon.

That being said, there isn't a hard line.  One could use the line of, whenever you're passing 87% Mastery w/ at least 30% Haste, but if you're doing that with a Flex-level weapon, there may not be any kind of increase!

Could someone outline a perfectly executed Unleashed Fury rotation smile.png     I'm not sure what others are doing with it and I wasn't 100% clear on what the guide was suggesting smile.png

I have been using the following priority for casting:

Flame Shock (renew with less than 3 sec remaining)

Unleashed Elements (on cool down)

Lava Burst

Earth shock (with 6+ Lightning Shield Charges)

Lightning bolt

(excluded searing totem from the list as you would be better of using Lightning bolt with the UE buff)

There isn't a super easy way to explain the UF rotation, because it includes a lot of other complication besides the bog-standard rotation you've laid out.

This is copied from a private message I sent re: the pros and cons of UF.  If you have any questions outside of the explanation, or if you'd like me to go into depth better on how to implement that as a weighted decision-making rotation, let me know.

Most people stumble with UF because of the couple of complexities it offers, and the truly slim gains that comes from.  These aren't talked about as much when people suggest shifting to UF, but they're very important.

1. Timing

The timing of your casts is even more important when you're running UF, because it shifts more damage from another spell into Lava Burst and Lightning Bolt.  As such, if you end up casting more instants during UF's uptime (Earth/Flame Shock, Totems, etc.), you lose out on a portion of that bonus.

2. Cooldown

Watching it's cooldown is more important as well, because of that large shift in damage as well as Unleash Flame's contribution.  You should be casting it within 2 GCDs of it coming off cooldown as you can, and maximizing that can see a real effect on your DPS.

3. Unleash Flame

Unleash Flame itself is a silly mechanic, and needs some additional attention of it's own.  Although Flame Shock and Lava Burst have similar damage layouts, the high Mastery usually common in these builds affects Lava Burst much better than Flame Shock.  Thus, you must use Unleash Flame on Lava Burst the majority of the time.  If you spend even one Unleash Flame on a Flame Shock, you can lose up to 1mil damage.
