[Holy] Spoils HM with Holy Paladin

Recommended Posts

Hello, guys.

In the last reset we were struggling with Spoils HM, healing the fight with me (resto shaman) and holy paladin. The problem is that before week we killed them extremely easy with me and disc priest.

Logs: http://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/zjRQ4daPmHCNynLc#fight=17

But on this reset we already had 40 wipes and not even close to something. We tried to rearrange the groups, thinking that it may be a bad dps setup / bad luck / wrong order of rooms - nothing helps.

In every setup my group is mostly fine and the second one is dying due to different 'small things'. I can't point on any specific healing issues. Actually, I even did not think that it's a healing wipes us, but watching every time another group dead, I start to wonder...

Logs from our wipes (Monday and yesterday):

Spoils is often mechanical issues. Since I'm not in a position to look at logs right now, I'll just state the likely issues:

1. Enemy dispelling. If they're wiping on mantid, it's likely cuz the disc priest mass dispelled the enemies, and now they're not being dispelled. This is something that mages/shamans/priests/hunters/prot warriors can do (perhaps others I don't remember). Make sure your sides have a good balance of these, and are aware that they must do it.

2. Bomb placement. Often times people have different styles if placing bombs, and perhaps the way it's being done is bugging the holy paladin, or he's running too far away and leaving the team abandoned at the wrong times. You said it's not healing so it may not be this.

3. Box opening. If you're opening bad combos, you're likely in trouble. I like to open boxes so that the big mogu is alone, the anima golem is with one small, and that I should try to only have 1 urn active at a time. As for mantid, I tend to open until I hit a kunchong, or I feel there's enough. Usually this is 1 big, 1 med, 1 small, but you easily take your time as you fe fit.

4. Not the right adds dying. There's some adds that need to die. On mantid I feel the kunchong/wind wielders are the more obnoxious mobs and try to take them out fast. On mogu, anima golems/ ancient moguls are bad, and letting too many stone statues swarm is a way to die for sure.

I'm not saying these are specifically what's happening to you, it's just likely that one of these are hurting you. I'll check out the logs later on.

Thanks for the reply :)

1. Dispeling was the issue on Monday - in my group myself and tank were dispeling everything, in another group - no dispels. So yesterday we splited: I went to the other group, so in both groups everything was dispelled.

2. We have very specific place for the bombs placing (line near the lever) - it's enough place and everybody are aware where they have to drop the bombs.

3. We have specific algorithm for the box opening in every room - never was any issue with me in group.

4. Almost the same order, except of Amber priests before the wind wielders.

Before I start, spoils is a very problematic fight to look at the logs of. the range issues often give broken parses, and thus can't analyze both sides. This means I'm seeing your side's logs mostly (meaning I can't see deaths properly) so I wont know when a wipe has been called.

Wipe 3:

Kouniam dies - Supernova - Bad raid DPS.

Rest of side dies standing in Crimson puddles, and a matter swap hit to kill 3 - terrible play all around. Don't stack in melee, or even at all for that matter. A loose spread will allow easy healing, and means you can reach both matter swaps.

Every Other Wipe

Literally every wipe I saw some pheromones damage. That shit is horrible, and needs to not be stood in. Ranged should be spread out lightly (within a fair range to get AoE heals, but never directly ontop of eachother). When watching the death logs, I everyones taking the pheromones damage, which suggests either everyones blind and has been standing in it for 10 seconds, or are stacking in melee. This stuff is a normal mode mechanic, and it must be avoided on heroic. It literally is the worst thing you could stand in on this side (excluding blowing people up with bombs).

The summary of all your wipes is simply doing the mechanics. People need to not stand in pheromones, or crimson, or tornados, soak matter swaps, and stay moderately spread out to be able to do all these easily.

Personally, this fight should never be a healing issue. It is one of the easier fights in the instance to heal. The problem is usually the DPS not damaging the right bosses, standing in bad stuff or not executing mechanics correctly. Dispels may sometimes cause an issue but usually you can heal through it.

Here's a couple things to keep in mind when progressing through this fight:

  • If you can kill the crates before the enrage timer and you are struggling with healing.. wait to go to the next room until close to the enrage timer so you can recover some mana.
  • Save healing CD's for when the big boxes are opened, and open the smaller boxes until you have another strong healing CD available for the next big box.
  • Separate groups according to difficulty. If you are having trouble with healing one side.. stack that side with the stronger healer and have the stronger tank on the opposite side.
  • If you're having issues with sparks, maybe add a range for that side or have the tank stack the bosses in the middle so they can help cleave it down.

Or you can just pray to the WoW gods for the healing buff and position yourself to heal/dmg the raid/boss

Curious as to how this is going Pandacho.

Also I note a flaw in my diagnosis, a fair number of the wipes are a lack of healing and dying to the dot from pheromones, which means the healer is running a mile away with bombs instead of staying nearby.

A good way to help mitigate this issue is to use defensive CD's or even Heroism during this box. Also try to drop the bombs in an area where the boxes were already opened.

I do this fight every week with myself (holy paladin) and a resto shaman, never have any issues, its probably one of the easiest fights to heal in heroic

the main thing your pally needs to worry about are the abilities from the large crates, the pheremones can get out of control if the big boxes dont die fast enough, he should have eternal flame on his entire group for each of the large boxes, and should be using devotion aura on the first or second, hammer is good for AOE heals if you have a few ranged, just have them stick close together

also if he is getting the buff from the mistweaver he should always try to stay behind the group and point himself towards the tank and the mobs that way the group gets healed and the mobs take damage, and it can add quite a bit of damage, i think the most i have done so far is 50mil damage (got it on both rooms)

for the mogu room, the aoe from the large box hurts, he shouldnt over react to this since it is highly predictable, EF should be on everyone, hammer should be down, devo should be rolling, personals should be used, health stones should be used

he should be saving his CD's for the large boxes, holy avenger and divine purpose to get EF on everyone, Avenging Wrath for some good throughput

all in this fight is easy for healing, its only made harder by dumb DPS, not killing sparks, standing in anima, not standing in beams, not droping bombs, standing in pheremone puddles, standing in bomb circles, etc.

i would say if he can heal gold proving ground this is no different
