Hey there,

I've recently switched to Windwalker spec for my guild and gearing is going great! :)
But i've ran in to a issue with my DPS, it's quite low when compared with our hunter.

I've made a log (It was a really bad raidnight) so hopefully you guys can give me some asistance.

Considering that you were alive up to ~6 min on the kill, that's all I'm going to look at.

33/45 uses of Rising Sun Kick.  This needs to go up.

Chi Wave: 17/24  This isn't as important, but it is free healing for whoever needs it.

Expel Harm: 15/24 Again, this isn't that important, but is still free healing, though only to yourself.

122 charges of Tigereye Brew gained, 13 uses of TeB.  As per my understanding, this should only be used at 10+ stacks or if the fight will end soon.

You didn't have advanced combat logging on, so I can't tell how well you managed your energy and chi.  Do this for future log analysis.  It also looks like you are slightly under the expertise cap, but that may just be positioning messing you up (I generally don't play melee dps, so idk).

This is about the extent of my knowledge of WW monks, so I hope this helps.

Hey there.
Yeah in the end I did drop dead (We also had kills of Nazgrim and attempts at Malkorok but for some reason they were not included).

I'll turn on advanced logging from now on :)
And I want to thank you for the tips I will start to work on them.

You're welcome :)

I also suggest you try OmniCC for tracking cooldowns on your icons.  This puts a number on the icon on your bars that shows the remaining cd on your abilities.

I currently have ElvUI which comes with that functionality already built-in.
But I will probably enlarge my actionbar a bit as to make it more noticable.

Or use weak auras to put icons around your screen in what ever size/location you want.

As a point, Expel Harm should not be used on cooldown, instead using it any time you're below 80% HP to replace Jab.

Yeah, I currently have WeakAuras installed aswell to track

  • Tiger Power
  • Mortal Wounds
  • When it is the best time to use Fists of Fury

To correct something Hybrys said. You should not just automatically use it at below 80% HP. You should use it when the damage of your jab, no longer outweighs the damage of Expel Harm. This situation arises when your HP is below the amount that jab would do as damage, after taking 50% off, for the reduced damage that Expel Harm does.. For me, that is 60k HP missing, which correlates to below 90% HP. You also have to take into account the skill level of your healers, you could hit it at full health if a healer snipes 10% HP from you, resulting in a DPS loss. The only time I will ever use Expel harm is when I know there's damage coming and I know I'll be below 90% HP for a decent amount of time. Thok is a perfect example.

Do the math yourself and figure out your breaking point so you can better use Expel Harm.

This is ABSOLUTELY right.  I just use 80% as an easy way to make the point that it has to heal you or else you wouldn't get the damage.

I also wouldn't just figure in my average Jab, I would figure in my highest Jab vs the health remaining required to get the damage required.  This is to compensate for trinkets and procs that may shift your Jab damage significantly higher than usual.

Last time I did the calcs for Brewmaster, I was looking at around 82%, but that was also factoring a significant amount of Vengeance.  I bet you'd be looking at ~88%, maybe 85%.

The complexities of really optimal WW play are what drove me to and away from the class.  Minmaxing with Touch of Karma damage, TeB timing, and Expel Harm weaving was always very interesting and infuriating when it didn't work your way.

Yeah, Hybrys is correct in saying that 80% is a good starting point. It's just less of a hassle than trying to calculate your % HP and whether or not it would be a DPS increase. Honestly, thinking about it for too long, would end up being a loss lol. So just do it if you're under 80% just to be safe. Unless you're trying to optimize.

I mean, if we really want, we could make a weak aura that tells you when jab would be effective taking into account your current attack power and such.

Though if it crits you kinda wasted it.

edit: after some looking around I found this.  I haven't tested it, but looks promising.
