Wondering about my Moonkin

6 posts in this topic

Your gear looks fine, You're actually the same item level as me in my boomkin set, though technically you have less gear than me cause I haven't upgraded everything.  Without logs its hard to tell what you're doing exactly.

I've only really done Flex as boomkin, but here are some of my logs: http://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/KM1FfHATC6hGb3Yd#fight=33&type=damage-done

On my Shamans kill, we had the bosses stacked together, so my numbers may be a bit inflated because of it.

I found this one log of Shamans: http://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/K1gTHkAn79baCrqd#type=damage-done&fight=4

Your DoT Uptimes are low, 91% / 89%.  You want this a lot closer to 95%.

Here you can see the gaps in your DoTs.

I'm having a hard time figuring out if you had the bosses stacked together or not, if you did you're ABSOLUTELY should be dotting both of them.  Your priority should be: Starsurge > Eclipsed DoT > Non Eclipsed DoT.  On both targets (it doesn't matter who you starsurge).  By doing that you're just going to be shooting starsurges all day

You got 30/43 shooting star procs.  I think thats good.  On my shamns flex kill I got 44 / 83. which is just about half missed.  But I had a lot of dots going up to let me spam starsurge.

Next your nature's grace uptime was 70%. If you were multi-dotting I can see why, but from this log, it does't seem like you were.  This needs to go up.

Here is a graph of you snapshotting your haste procs with MF/SF5S7exKc.png

At the start it seems you refreshed your dots too often (again this is assuming only one target) But then you did better in the later parts of the fight.  Its super important that you snapshot your DoT's with NG and your Meta gem as much as possible.  That gives you the highest chance of getting starsurge procs.

You had 7 starfall buffs, and 5 lunar eclipses.  Good you used it well.

In your opener:

If you turn on only the Sunfire casts you can see you only casted it twice during CA.  Normally this is good, but the one cast you did you missed a Tempest Repit proc off AND for a fight like shamans, you want to dot EVERYTHING during CA.  Tab target and put your 2 dots on EVERYTHING. That's 8 dots you can have in the opener and you're just spammin starsurge heaven.

This is the Macro I use for my opener

Pot macro (mostly for pre-pot but works for normal pot as well)

#showtooltip
/use Potion of the Jade Serpent
/use Starfall

Mushroom / opener Macro

#showtooltip
/use [mod:ctrl] Wild Mushroom: Detonate
/use [nomod] Wild Mushroom: Detonate
/use [nomod] Solar Beam
/use [nomod] Berserking(Racial)
/use [nomod] Celestial Alignment
/use [nomod] Incarnation
[Take out beserking since you're not a troll]

When you press ctrl with this macro, it only does mushrooms.  Otherwise, it pops everything with your mushrooms.  I have mushrooms set before the pull and then pop this when it happen I can immediately start dotting everything and using procs.

My next macro, is my normal cooldown macro for when they are back up and I don't want to use mushroom / solar beam for no reason.

#showtooltip
/use Berserking(Racial)
/use Celestial Alignment
/use Incarnation

Make sure to press this multiple times to make sure Incarnation gets used since its on the GCD.

There is a ton of good information in that post by Krazyito however there is one really glaring thing that is terrible advice and that is putting Incarnation in the same macro as Berserking and Celestial Alignment.

The reason for this is the Incarnation costs a gcd so if you use all 3 at the same time you actually lose 1 entire global before you can cast anything and your CDs are ticking down effectively wasting 10% of berserking and ~7% of Celestial alignment.

You should have INC up then when the time comes you can cast CA/Berserking/Gloves and dot in the same global as those are not on the gcd thus gaining that extra global of dps.

This is a huge lose in efficiency and a huge loss in dps.

The proper open should be something like this....

Star anywhere in Solar

Countdown 4...

Countdown 3 Incarnation

Countdown 2 Prepot/Starfall

Countdown 1 Cast Starsurge

Countdown 0 CA/Berserk/Gloves/Mushroom/Solar Beam Macro + Dot Application

From here you spam Starfire and Use Starsurge procs  until your meta/trinkets/gloves/berserking have 1 second left and you reapply your dots.

I see people constantly waiting until the end of CA to refresh dots and this is a MASSIVE dps loss you could possibly be losing 60% haste and 14-18k int on a dot application.

Never during CDs should you break a starfire cast for a SS proc they hit for almost the same damage and with meta/hero/berserking you are going to be very close if not at the gcd cap so its a dps loss to break the cast during your CDs.

Lots of good info though just pointing out a pretty huge oversight.

That's actully a very good point. Thank you. Something I will try to adopt in the future.

Just the little things I don't know since I don't play the spec as MS.

While the point about not wasting a GCD during your awesome CDs is definitely accurate, I actually don't agree with pre-casting that Starsurge at the beginning before your CA and everything are active. It's kind of wasting damage versus casting it after your DoT application when you have everything active and have likely triggered trinkets already. Your DoT application won't have anything on it but Berserking.  It's not going to make your DoT fast enough to tick faster than your GCD until you trigger your meta gem and add lust to the mix, and that's accounting for NG putting you at the 50% GCD cap. That means, you'll be casting your Starsurge before your DoTs have the opportunity to tick and trigger SS, meaning you're not going to be losing any procs unless both ticks do it. The time difference between that tick and your GCD is very small, but if you're playing at a level where you care about activating your CDs after the GCD of Inc you're playing fast enough to make that time difference not matter. You just have to, while spamming your CD macro, detoante, Solar Beam, and Moonfire, make sure you hit Starsurge quick enough to have it queue before the GCD ends. One second is enough time to hit four buttons.

Ok the reason that you cast the Starsurge at the start of a fight is really just basic math.

If we open at the same time with CDS + dots then cast a Starfire in my cast Starsurge in your case then what we are casting in terms of damage hit.

If you have meta/lust/NG/Berserking you are going to be VERY close to the gcd cap so the difference in a Starfire and Starsurge is only the difference of SP which is 216.6 for Starfire and 238.8 for Starsurge.  So while your first SS will hit harder than mine I am getting 216.6 extra damage and you are getting 22.2 extra as my first SS is traveling as the countdown hits 0 and I start the open.

I guess if you really were super worried about saving that SS you could precast a wraith however you should be precasting something to get a spell in travel to hit right at 0 this is at the very core of min maxing your dps and it is for sure a numerical gain.
