[Arms] Colossus smashing into a colossus smash

14 posts in this topic

Simple question. If CS is reset during a CS window, is it best to use it as the last attack of the current CS window or to wait until the current window is over? I guess this hinges on whether the CS debuff applies to its own damage.

I personally made this decision on how much of the debuff was remaining. If I could go 1 - 2 GCDs with it still applied without taking advantage of the proc then that's what I did. If I was going to lose the debuff in the same window, I reapplied it.

Edit:

Nevermind. I misread the original question. It doesn't matter what the damage CS does within it's own debuff. What matters is that the debuff is applied. Ideally you'd hit your proc CS as the last GCD that falls in the previous CS debuff window. (This way you'd have a continuous application of the debuff). If you miss this ideal moment, you won't miss much as your next GCD will obviously reapply the debuff anyway.

The important thing here is not to go 2 or 3 GCDs without using that proc; at that point you would then, obviously, have wasted it.

That doesn't really make sense at all.

The only important factors here are whether CS benefits from its own debuff and whether it's a dps gain to use it as the last global in a previous window if it doesn't.

I edited my first post in the thread in reply to your question.

Then I'm afraid you'll have to be more clear on your point.

Colossus Smash doesn't do an incredible amount of damage in and of itself. The point to hitting it within the last moment of your last CS debuff is simply to keep it up constantly for melee swings and dots, and to maximize the length of the debuff without putting it off for so long that the CD could have reset again. Its not the actual CS damage that you need to be concerned about.

I know what the purpose of the debuff is and that CS itself does fairly low damage. I just have no idea as to how I'd sim this and I'm sure an advanced warrior would actually know the answer to this. If it's still a gain for the relatively small amount of damage to be ignoring armour and whether the small gain in resets over the course of a fight by doing this makes a difference.

"Ideally you'd hit your proc CS as the last GCD that falls in the previous CS debuff window."

Problem is you're vouching for this when you don't seem to know whether the CS damage benefits from its own debuff.

Personally, I would simply wait till it fully drops off before applying the next CS. Aside from CS itself doing such a low amount of damage that debuff or no debuff it wont be massive difference in your end numbers, what I think is more important is how often you get ur extra CS. On average, I dont recall CS proccing so often that you can afford to spend 1/4 of your CS window not slamming. Dont get me wrong the buff is pretty frequent, but not to the degree that you'll find them overlapping procs constantly.

Again, and hopefully for the final time, the damage from CS is irrelevant on whether or not the debuff is applied. The relevance is the debuff itself.

I vouch for this because, with the debuff applied, I know I do more damage regardless. Because of this I want the debuff applied as long as possible. If, in a CS window, CS procs again I'm going to wait until the last second to use that proc to get the maximum amount of time possible out of that debuff.

You're missing the point. I know what the debuff does. I know the damage is low. I want to know if anyone has simmed whether the damage is low enough to warrant spending a global on it outside a CS window when the alternative presents itself, assuming it doesn't benefit from its own debuff.

This is supposed to be an easy question but only for people who've actually done the legwork in the past. These suppositions are, while appreciated for the effort, completely useless.

Reading through the thread and your insistence that people are missing the point (which seems to be that you want sims), I'd like to point out that at no point in your initial question did you request sims. At this point, it seems like no one currently participating in the thread has the sims you're looking for. You may want to look into running the sims yourself.

The problem is that people are trying to answer a black/white question with nothing but conjecture. I have absolutely no idea of how to go about simming this, which is a problem. Until I figure this out one way or the other, I guess the obvious assumption to make in the meantime would be to keep reapplying CS outside of the previous window.

Your original question has been answered very thoroughly. It has been stated that you have not requested for a sim to be done and, in that aspect, you were encouraged to run the sim yourself if that's what you truly wanted.

I see no reason for this thread to continue as it's now becoming counter-productive. I'm closing the thread.
