hearthstone Leeroy Jenkins and Starving Buzzard Nerfs

1 post in this topic

Earlier today, Leeroy Jenkins and Starving Buzzard were changed. The cards still have exactly the same card text as before, but Leeroy Jenkins now costs 5 mana (up from 4) and Starving Buzzard now costs 5 mana (up from 2) and has 3 attack (up from 2) and 2 health (up from 1).

We will be adjusting our Hunter decks in the next few days, but not immediately, because Poyo and I are currently wrapping up the first part of our Diablo III section (which should go live tomorrow or the day after) and because we need to test decks properly before publishing them. In the meantime, we are going to add a warning at the beginning of all the decks that use these two cards.

Blizzard Icon Hearthstone Patch Notes - 1.2.0.6485

In this Hearthstone patch, we're addressing some bugs as well as making balance changes to Leeroy Jenkins and Starving Buzzard. To view our in-depth explanation on the Leeroy Jenkins and Starving Buzzard changes, please visit our forum thread here.

The full patch notes are below!

Card Changes

  • Leeroy Jenkins (Neutral) now costs 5 (up from 4)
    • Leeroy Jenkins created a strategy that revolved around trying to defeat your opponent in one turn without requiring any cards on the board. We like having a variety of deck types but taking 20+ damage in one turn is not very fun or interactive.
    • The amount of dust that you get from disenchanting Leeroy Jenkins has been temporarily increased such that it is equal to the amount of dust that it would have originally cost to craft it.

  • Starving Buzzard (Hunter) now costs 5 (up from 2) and now has 3 Attack and 2 Health (up from 2 Attack and 1 Health)
    • The amount of cards Starving Buzzard allowed Hunter players to draw ultimately ended up being too excessive for its low cost. This change will allow the Hunter’s opponent more time to react to both the Starving Buzzard and the cards drawn by its power.

Bug Fixes

  • Hired gnomish engineers to improve the in-game chat bubbles to reduce clipping.
  • Resolved various bugs and issues.
  • [iPad] Improved overall performance, especially for iPad 2 and iPad mini.
  • [iPad] Resolved an issue where the Hearthstone client could sometimes crash when returning to the client from a locked iPad state.

We have a new Tavern Brawl this week! Its name is Spellbook Duel.
For this Brawl, you choose your class and then you pick 10 different cards to fill your deck. Instead of drawing cards each turn, you Discover a copy of a card from your deck. If you use card drawing mechanics, like Arcane Intellect, you don't actually draw from your deck. You will, in fact, get a 1-mana spell called Peruse, which again allows you to Discover a copy of a card from your deck.
Obviously, there are a lot of possible deck combinations you can use to tackle this new Tavern Brawl. The first things that pop into mind are anything that contains Reno Jackson and Kazakus, as well as Jade Druid to extend the possibility of getting these precious Jade Idols. Once again, Mage is the clear winner of this Brawl with cards like Sorcerer's Apprentice, Arcane Intellect and Flamewaker.
Bear in mind that some cards are not recommended, since they remove cards from your Discover pool. Examples are Fel Reaver and Tracking. Moreover, cards that put another card directly into play, like Mysterious Challenger and Mad Scientist, will also make your Discover pool smaller. Lastly, according to a Reddit user, Renounce Darkness won't deduct 1 mana from the cards you discover throughout the game.
There are already a lot of disgusting decks for Spellbook Duel out there. We are waiting for your suggestions and any other useful info in the comments!
