Marksmanship Hunter 6.2

Recommended Posts

The MM guide currently includes Barrage in the single target rotation. There was a (brief) period where it wasn't included because it wasn't optimal, purely against a single target. As Orthios correctly says, even though against a single target Barrage wasn't worth using, it was still generally a good idea to take it on most fights because there are usually some periods where adds are still present.

Just to clarify, because this has gotten a bit convoluted.

Barrage is nice to take because normally there might be adds on a boss, thus it is a recommended talent.  But against a pure single target boss fight, it should be left completely out of our rotation.

Correct?

Another example would be Tectus. Using Barrage at all on the first guy, is a DPS loss. However once he splits into two, using it becomes a gain again.

It was my understanding from Azortharion that Barrage is still worth using against a single target now. What I described in my earlier post, and what Niix says here should have applied to the brief period during which Barrage was not at all included in the single target rotation. I'll double check with azor and see.

This is in my gear. It is ~50 DPS, it is a gain, but just not enough of one to stress out over.

I struggle really bad with my hunter. I'm currently at 645 ilvl and I can't seem to push over 20k. During rapid fire and when the boss is over 80% i try to cast aimed shot as much as possible and keep Murder of Crows up while using Chimaera shot on CD. I can't really see what I'm doing wrong. Currently using TotH, MoC, Barrage and Lone Wolf. Any tips or ideas?

Hey!

Im having trouble reaching maximum dps on my hunter ilvl 649. I am going TotH, MoC, Glaive Toss (barrage when there are adds) and Lone Wolf. I still cant push over 20k. I am always using MoC and CS on cooldown. When the boss is over 80% or during RF I use aimed shot as much as possible, but as soon as it falls of i sink to about 19k dps. Any tips or ideas what could cause this problem?

Hey!

Im having some trouble performing in the dps meter. Im currently TotH, MoC, Glaive Toss (Barrage when there are adds involved), Lone Wolf. I cant seem to push over 21k with my ilvl (649). During RF I spam aimed shot with CS and keep MoC up. I try to never starve myself on focus and use as many aimed shots as possible during TotH. Is there something in the specc or can you possibly give me some tips or advise on how i can improve my dps?

Can't tell you anything specific without logs, and if you do want specific help, make sure to post in the hunter section. Otherwise, make sure you are using CS as close to on cd as possible and AMoC on pull and on cd from there on.

I've been playing around with quite a few mixtures now while leveling (dungeon-leveling mostly), and have certainly found Steady Shots to be more difficult to milk for its worth than Thrill of the Hunt, especially if paired with Glaive Toss and Crows (also did this with Power Shot, which tends to be my best trash-buster, partly for the mass-interrupt, but not yet with Barrage - will try soon), but the dps, unless TotH procs go off just as you'd want them to, is pretty close.  Ideally (and very frequently -- does not seem to be a RPPM mechanic) procing, my top single-target dps on my lvl 95 hunter (not very well geared, but not badly either) was ~10k; without that it was right alongside Steady Shots at around 8.3-9.1k on the same fight, and I still have a lot of practice to go on managing Steady Shots.  Later stat balance at cap may change how that gap works, but for now it seems a decent comparison.  [And again, though the guide here recommends Barrage with Steady Shots, I have yet to test that, and look forward to doing so.]

Both also seem quite enjoyable in their own right; Steady Shots will have you feeling like you're trying hard to fit all your talent CDs into an adaptive yet constrictive rotation, but that can be a good thing for many, including myself.  Hunt feels like a more casual sort of fun, just as opportunistic, but without the constriction.

I used the misdirection macro throughout MOP. but i think you can add something to make it's solo capabilities insane.

it requires Glyph of Misdirection tho.

  • #showtooltip Misdirection
  • /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][@focus,help,nodead][]Misdirection
  • /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][@focus,help,nodead][]Mend Pet

Just put your pet in focus whenever you are soloing and you can keep 100% uptime on mend pet and misdirection (mend pet does not have global CD)

and by using this macro every 6 sec (wich is the duration of MD) you can solo almost anything with no problems what so ever

hi, on the MM stats weight page you put multistrike as 1st secondary stat.. and then go on and explain its good for survival... well im here to look at what stats i need to focus on for my MM hunter.. not survival.

i kind of find it annoying. its already mentioned on the survival page that multi is 1st secondary stat anyway.. why "polute" the MM page with information regarding survival?

well i guess it leaves me with 1 question: after i get 43% crit, what should i go for? haste or multi?

thanks for the great work guys. keep going!

The guide states that if you switch from MM to SV, then prioritizing MS over Crit is better since MS is very powerful for SV:

This priority assumes that you will often be switching to Survival for certain fights, a spec for which Multistrike is very good. If you never switch to Survival (or if you want to go all out maximising your Marksmanship DPS), then you can prioritise Critical Strike to 43% above any other secondary stat.

At any rate, the stat weights for MM are as follows, with MS >= Crit anyways:

Marksmanship:

MainHandDps               2.40

Agility                   1.00

AttackPower               0.90

Multistrike               0.52

CriticalStrike            0.51

Versatility               0.48

Mastery                   0.41

Haste                     0.39

This is taken from Nnx's Hunter Guide in the Hunter sub-forum, and are essentially the same as the one's in Azor's Hunter Guide.

Why are there two entries for critical strike?

How is versatility better than mastery?

Because there is a soft cap for crit at 53% (this does need to be updated) where Aimed Shot will always crit during Careful Aim (>80% or Rapid Fire).  Although, there is no reason to not continue to stack crit post 53% that I know of anyways.  Regarding Mastery vs Vers, MM's mastery is only useful while it is up, which isn't going to be 100%, and neither does it scale as fast as vers (it takes more mastery rating to get 1% than it does vers).

After the recent buff to the MM mastery, it sims to me as the 2nd best secondary stat (after crit). Ofc you need to take into account the nature of the encounters and the degree of player movement that is required. Maybe make 2 sets of stats, 1st for stationery/light movement encounters where players can keep the buff all the time (Gruul, Beastlord...) and 2nd for those with heavy movement (The Germans)...?

I have noticed in BRF, that mastery seems to be very strong. I am able to keep sniper training up the majority of the time even on fights with movement such as Hans/Franz, Blast Furnace, etc.. and it when I had gemmed for crit I lost dps but gemming for mastery was an overall dps increase. I know sims say it is not but it seems in real world encounter mastery is pretty damn good IMO.

To be completely frank, personal opinions do not have a real place in the world of guidewriting and theorycraft.

Even with 100% Sniper Training uptime, Crit and Multistrike best Mastery by a significant amount. The increase you experienced has been a product of RNG or varying success at executing the fight and spec across the couple of weeks you did it and your deduction is a fault of an extremely low sample size.

The guide's priority and the GDocs guides' weight assumes a 90% uptime on Sniper Training. This is probably a bit low, but I'd much rather shoot a bit low than a bit high when considering the average player.

Why isn't ability_hunter_pointofnoescape.jpgGlyph of No Escape even listed in the major glyphs section? It doubles your critical strike chance on targets affected by ice trap. That seems like a pretty major DPS increase to me.

The tooltip pretty clearly says Freezing Trap and not Ice Trap, and Freezing Trap only works on a few mobs. That's if you can even get damage into them before one million raider dots and abilities hit it. ;p

I think it should be noted that if you choose NOT to use Lone Wolf, then Steady Focus becomes a great deal more powerful with Focusing Shot

The thing is, while that may be true, you should never not take Lone Wolf.

Quick question, I have noticed that when I equip my 670 bow from Brack, the dmg of all my abilities goes up (based on the tool tip and in game numbers), yet I have the 675 crafted crit/ms gun. is the 2.9 speed from the gun gimping the dmg because of the faster speed?

Here's how you can upgrade your legendary weapons in Dragonflight Season 4 next week!
This one is for Fyr'alath and Nasz'uro owners. You must first farm 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. However, you can only acquire 1 Antique Bronze Bullion per week from Awakened Raid bosses. The bullion will drop in Raid Finder difficulty too.
Next week, the cap will be raised to 2 and a catch-up method will be implemented, so players who didn't have the chance to get their first bullion can get it from the weekly quest in Valdrakken.
Anyway, the soonest you can upgrade your legendary to the base item level of 502 is during the week of April 30th (so next week).
Once you have 2 Antique Bronze Bullions, head to the Parting Glass in Valdrakken.

Evokers need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for  2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Once purchased, use the consumable to upgrade your legendary to item level 502, the base item level for Season 4.
After that, you can further upgrade your legendary using Flightstones and crests. Check out our gear upgrading guide for more info!

Cache of Timewarped Treasures obtained from Black Temple Timewalking quest this week has a chance to contain Ashes of Al'ar!
Don't forget to complete this week's Timewalking raid! If you're having trouble getting into a group, create your own one, invite 2 tanks 4-5 healers and around 14 DPS and you are all set! Visit Shattrath, and talk to the Timewalking NPC to queue up for the raid.
The raid is extremely easy to compete and what's more, you get item level 493 loot along your way.
Upon defeating Illidan Stormrage and completing the quest, you will receive Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has an increased chance of containing Ashes of Al'ar or another piece of gear.
Demon Hunters shouldn't forget to get their warglaives transmog arsenal from Illidan and the reputation buff will help you add a couple of mounts to your collection!

Tama's Dragonflight Helper is a Weakaura that displays a weekly to-do list in the game and it's been updated for Dragonflight Season 4!
The WeakAura is very useful for keeping track of everything in the game at max level. It shows you a to-do list with the weekly tasks, provides you with the locations of rares, super rares, information about your current Renown standing, and more.

You will find Tama's Dragonflight Helper at wago.io. Please note that you must first download and install WeakAuras 2 to import the string.

Cataclysm's Grim Batol has been added to the Mythic+ Dungeon rotation in The War Within Season 1, and one boss received a brand new model recently on the Alpha.
General Umbriss, the first boss of the dungeon, got a shiny new model, which is quite different from his previous one. Below is a screenshot of the old a new model.
