What will be the best dps spec heading into 6.0?

Recommended Posts

Due to the patch coming in the next 2 days, and the new 20 man mythic raid - what will be the more demanded spec wanted in the raid?

I've done some self testing at 580 il on the ptr with optimal gems, enchants and such.

I only got to test out unholy and 2h frost, as i copied my character before i was able to grab some 1handers.

For both specs i used the icy veins 6.0 guides - with what new gems to use and such.

For unholy i was doing around 18k burst damage and then stable to 11-12k on the none elite dummy in vale. All damage was single target, no multi dotting etc..

Then i went frost 2h and was doing burst damage round 22k and stable 14-15k, howling blast did hit another dummy to take into account.

I also asked a similar geared frost dw dk whom said his dps was stable to 14-15k but obviously the howling blast cleaves don't make it really reliable.

I also know that unholy and frosts dw AoE is very high while 2h frost isn't quite to par with them.

I know there many other factors that influence the dps such as execution phase, etc...

So my question really is all in all what would be the strongest dk spec at BiS gear coming this patch day.

I really want to know other peoples insights and outputs and results, i want to really perform well and get a place in that 20man raid roster.

Thank you

about 15k is what I'm doing with both 2H frost and DW frost also. given the choice between the two since they are fairly even, I would go with DW because the single target rotation is basically the AoE rotation. Meaning you'll easily do more dps on any fight with incidental aoe.

Cupidx insists he's doing about 18k with unholy, but I can't get anywhere near those numbers, both in practice, and in sims I'm only getting 12-13k with unholy.

Can reach 18k dps as unholy only at the start of burst, but after that exactly likes yours goes between 12-13k.

For frosts i would also say dw would be the better choice, i tested aoe dps on the 4 dummies in org. With unholy i was getting 750-820k DPS and with frost 2h i was doing 550-600k

I'm getting around around the same numbers for all 3 specs on PTR. Have BiS for every spec, outside of a HWF Evil-Eye. (Damn you RNG) I'm getting Unholy slightly ahead at almost 16k. Hovering around 15500-15900. DW and 2h I seem to be hovering around 15000-15500. The difference in specs right now is so small that I really don't see it mattering what you play. Unholy's cleave is nasty, though. I'll probably be swapping to Unholy tomorrow, but mainly just because I'm sick of Frost.

Cupidx, are you multi dotting the dummies as unholy? And are you using mastery/haste or mastery/strength for your red socket gems btw ?

I'm quite pleased that blizz made blood boil a strong aoe ability. Though I absolutely hate the nerf made on army of the dead. They do absolutely fuck all deeps now QQ

No to the multidotting. Purely single target as I'm attacking the lone boss dummy in the building by the Valley of Honor Inn. As far as gems go, I'm going pure mastery for yellow slots, and strength/mastery for red slots. Ignoring blue slots and still using pure mastery. Haste is worthless for Unholy, so even if I was using another secondary stat, it would be Crit before Haste.
