DK unholy 6.0.2

9 posts in this topic

Hi all,i have a question about unholy in 6.0.. i have finished yesterday the mythic SoO raid and my dps was like 17k with 585 ilv (thok trinket normal).i think that i can do better with my dk and i have a question, is better to equip str/mastery gems in red sockets? ora haste/mastery? i have 57% haste now with all str/mastery gems equipped

and one last question,is better to stay with the 4 pieces bonus or go for warforged and use only the 2 pieces bonus?

Haste drops in value pretty quickly, at 57% haste I'd say you're already way over that threshold so I'd go for str/mastery.

4pc isn't worth much for unholy, but WF isn't going to give you a lot more stats either. It isn't going to make more than a 100-200dps difference either way.

One interesting thing I have heard is that Skeer's can sometimes be better than Gal trinket because everything got nerfed so hard that many kills aren't even long enough to get a second gargoyle.

ok ty for the info,i'll give Skeer trinket a try if i'll drop it. the dk top dps for this patch is 18-20k?

It depends on the fight, I've seen some as high as like 27k on fights with a lot of AoE, but 18-20k single target is right around our max.

Unholy is really easy to burst 20k+ right now, because most mythic fights barely last more than a minute, and the 4pc is just about as useless as the Evil Eye, for the same reasons. the fights are so short you're barely gaining anything from extending the duration of your empowered ghoul by 10-20 seconds.

That's the same thing I've found also. I'm not as good at unholy as I am at frost. in a longer duration fight I'm consistently about 15-16k dps as DW Frost, whereas unholy I'm all over the place. sometimes I'll do 15k, sometimes I'll do 12k. but with fight lengths at 2 minutes and less it seems like it's a lot easier to burst 30k in your opener with unholy and only drop down to 20k by the time the fight is over.

Only 2 more weeks though and then it won't matter, we'll be back to gearing up, and real fight lengths.

Yeah the thing to keep in mind is a lot of current tunings are aimed at lvl 100 talents and the gear we'll have available. Unholy is in kind of an awkward phase. I previously pulled stupid numbers in it and can barely keep it competitive to frost atm. The set bonuses really aren't that great now and even the whole gear mastery doesn't work for me all that well. I'm still sitting on pure crit gemming and doing better than when I roll full mastery. Beyond that right now unholy seems to have an identity issues and with mythic there are some fights where it really shines but in general now it seems lack luster.

Also the death of festerblight made me sad :(

It's really hard to judge right now, because of the difference in where each spec does it's dps. Unholy has the stronger opener in the first 30-60secs which currently is about 50% of the entire fight duration. The other thing really skewing both specs is that with the shorter fights, we aren't getting a very long execute phase. The first night of 6.0 when fights were still running 5-6 minutes DK's of both specs were getting 10-15% of their total overall damage from soul reaper. but now you're lucky to get time to cast it 3-4 times before the boss is dead.

Just based on the one night of Mythic not being a complete joke though I feel like frost and unholy are very close, and I like where are dps is compared to other melee, other than warriors seeming a little bit too OP.
