I don't know what the numbers look like for Frost but there was a noticeable difference when I switch over to fire after last night's update.

Edit: I'm just bad with buff management. lol

Seem live to me on EU. Testing on dummies, i was doing slightly more dps as frost than fire while still using fire gems/enchants.

It is a noticeable chop for sure. With just Intel Buff my FIreball is 2,546 Damage according to tooltip. Frostbolt with just intel Buff is 2812 damage. So it hits harder and casts faster.

That is a far too simplistic way of comparing specs!

I don't think these changes will last very long. I'm specced for frost ever since the realm restart and I've been an absolute nightmare in SoO, even before gemming out of Arcane. It's about a 2 or 3k dps increase in raid and about 1k more damage on the dummy than when I'm in Arcane. Especially with a rogue and Swiftblade's Cunning for the extra haste/multistrike to go with KTT.

Fire's nothing now TT

Why does Blizz hate Fire mages so much? And furthermore, why does Blizz have such a chubby for Arcane? Okay, look at it like this; Think back to when you were a kid and you and your friends were discussing which super powers would be awesome to have. The most common answers? Flight, super strength, fire or ice. You know what kid said, "I want the power of arcane!" Friggin' no one. That's who. Arcane, visually, looks dumb in comparison to Fire and Frost, and the play style is down right boring. But alas, Blizz always gives love to Arcane. Meanwhile, Fire keeps getting treated like a red headed step child expansion after expansion. It was finally starting to look like it would be viable in the pre-patch again, but they had to go and ruin it. I am disappoint. :(

Can you define "playstyle issue" Berlinia?  Are you referring to the objective difference in play, or the player subjective difference in play?  (comfort, rotation memory etc)

An example is Bomb uptime. Someone might complain about low dps, but having only 40% bomb uptime!

Fire is in a good place. It's a playstyle issue rather than a spec issue!

Fire was the best spec to play as of 5.4.8 so it is most certainly not a "red headed step child"

Looking at these logs does that mean that all the specs have viable dps in comparison to others? I kind of just want to play Arcane but not if there's obvious difference in damage between the two. It might just be gear or mechanics that I do poorly that's giving varied results.

It's really a moot point to look at SimCraft DPS ranking at the moment and apply them to how the class will play in WoD.  Blizzard has stated that these band-aid fixes are only temporary for the pre-patch, and that tuning is far from over for level 100.  Just because frost has high DPS right now doesn't mean it will have high DPS in WoD.  Fire was nerfed because it was doing WAY too much damage, and even with the nerf it's preforming well above almost all other classes. I can almost guarantee you that fire will be buffed once WoD hits when crit ratings plummet. I really don't think that Blizz "hates" fire, but the design of fire is so dependent upon crit to the point that they have to buff the hell out of it early into an expansion, and nerf it later on as crit levels increase.

I personally think that we should all be quite happy that all three mage specs are currently Simming VERY high, and we should hope it stays that way smile.png

      Hello everyone,
Last patch gave us 40% and 10% damage increase on ray of frost and glacial spike
Does anyone know of these changes make them relevant ?
Should frost mage play with these or one of these now ?

Hi everyone. So I've read the guide on fire mage here on Icy-veins and got some questions related to single target rotation. First I'd like to ask about the meteor. It is mentioned that meteor should be used with Rune of Power which is fairly easy to do since Rune of Power is always ready when Metor is off cooldown. However It's also mentioned that Meteor should always be available when Combustion comes off cooldown. Now Combustion has a 2 min cooldown and meteor has 45 sec cooldown. I can use meteor twice while Combustion is on cooldown. However If I use Meteor twice , It is on cooldown when Combustion is ready. Should I wait for Combustion and not cast Meteor on the second time until Combustion is ready?
Second what I'd like to ask is about Combustion after the opener. Its mentioned that I need a hot streak before I pop It. I fish for Pyros by casting Fireball until I get a crit and then use Fire Blast. However when I get an Hot streak I'm already mid-casting Fireball. Should I cancel the cast and cast Rune of Power or should I let that Fireball hit and immediately after start casting Rune of Power?
It's also mentioned that I need to have a Fire Blast charge always ready before going in Combustion phase. Should I save up a charge and ignore the Heating Ups I get regardless and hope for Fireball to crit twice or basically wait for Fire Blast to get another charge?
      Thanks ?

I usually sim my characters to get the best possible results. I enjoy the process quite a lot and since I reached 120, I wanted to find out the best build of the spec. (Note, I didn't want to find out what to play, but rather how my own build fares in comarison.) I rarely mind a 1-2% difference. If it goes above 2%, I really mind a change. What this thread is about is mainly to bring something in the attention of those who help making the class guides, especially the talent choices. To my surprise, I was awed to find out that certain talents outperform previous "Standard" choices in the endgame, probably due to the stat squish.

The Frost go-to build (top dps) would probably be along the lines of <Icy Talons / Cold Heart - Runic Attenuation - Frozen Pulse - Gathering Storm - Breath of Sindragosa>. What I found out primarily was that after the removal of legendaries, Cold Heart severely underperforms at most given situations resulting in a major dps drop due to the low mastery. Gathering Storm also suffers from the same problem and most of the times, Frostwyrm's Fury is better overall. The biggest surprise of them all, however, was that Inexorable Assault overperforms quite a lot, and is the first reason why I made the topic. I then started simming with the above in mind and I came across a build that some would not consider on par with top dog builds around the meta, which is the use of Horn of Winter which overperforms both its other two options when using the Breath build. Talent Sim can be seen here. Another intresting thing, which I loved, was that the 2nd best build uses Obliteration as a lvl 100 talent and no other build surpassed it (Other than the first one, obviously). So, I encourage frost players out there to give their other, less common talents a try. To the class guide author(s), I believe that the two "underdog" talents will earn their spot in the class guides.

Thank you for your time reading this.

      Hi all,
Im not sure where to post this but im hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.
TL;DR - My DPS is awful and i want to increase it
I played fire & frost spec back in cata upto 85 and have recently got back into WoW again and finally realised what people talk about when they play "end game" i wish id known about raiding sooner!
However, My DPS isnt great at all im eq 959 ilvl but my DPS comes out as low as 8-900 sometimes or i can hold a steady 1.1-1.2M. Simc comes out around 1.7M (obviously in a perfect world) but i still feel im doing something wrong.
Ive watched videos, read forums and im sure my rotation is right. Im using Flask, Food and Runes and Pre-potting. I have some logs here of garothi.

      and this is my Raider.io - https://raider.io/characters/eu/twisting-nether/Buksh
Not sure if ive posted this in the right place OR if ive given enough info to help. but anything would be hugely appreciated.

Hi everyone. I just killed HC Varimathras and I was surprised by my low damage. There was not second time warp because we used the first one at 20% HP but I think I should get higher numbers. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? Was it really only in TW? I do not think so :/.
