Rain of Fire stealth nerf - Mannoroth's Fury a no go now?

Recommended Posts

I know 5 mans aren't indicative of much, but Destro's aoe has been completely crippled and it feels awful now - ember generation is non-existent.  Single target seems just fine.  Not seeing much point in even having ROF on bars right now.

The only times where things go back to feeling good is obviously when you've got like 6+ mobs to support ember generation during FnB.  Otherwise basically nothing is happening.

If they were going for this https://twitter.com/CM_Lore/status/537407959806930944

Then why not address blood dk's?  Or windwalkers?

They should have just nerfed the Fire and Brimstone modifier to be a greater penalty. Quick and easy and doesn't have mechanical implications.

This is also, of course, a minor nerf to Destruction's mobility (as if it needed one). At least that part of it is countered by the buff to Immolate/Conflag/Shadbowburn.

Okay ...

Well, I played Warlock back in vanilla and BC and switched classes in the following expansions only to switch back to WL after a long break just now (as my main - tried it a bit in MoP). Therefore I'm not really up to speed in terms of theorycrafting etc.

The nerf to RoF makes it hardly viable as a skill now (I could imagine it being used for enormous amounts of adds - but I could be wrong). I understand that RoF was a big part of ember generation (since I basically only leveled up until now and generated the bulk of my embers through shadowburn I haven't checked the math behind it) which is gone now and a way to keep damage up in high movement phases. Is the loss of the skill enough to make destruction less viable than the other specs, even with the little buffs it got?

I haven't checked any other specc really and have no idea why they are not viable at the moment - I'm basically believing everyone on that point. But I also read, that they reverted a huge part of the nerfs to demo, which made the class fall behind destro in the first place (I read that - not my own knowledge).

What I'm eager to know is, how this change affects the spec as a whole and in relation to the other specs.

Demonology was doing just fine last night.  I was bursting up to 40k reliably and hit 48k during one burst phase.  I had a Demonbolt hit for 118k with no flasks, no pots, nothing.  Wasn't even close to being fully buffed.  The changes did one thing - it made Demonology good again.  However, let it be known that Demonology is much more complex to manage everything than Destruction was.  For those of you who have played Destruction exclusively for a year, you have less than one week to get used to Demonology's playstyle.  Get out into those 5 mans and PRACTICE.

I was playing yesterday during the stealth nerf and, going from the patch notes, the questionable buff to other skills.  All of this is taken from Heroic Dungeon boss encounters...

RoF is pointless in ST rotation and I actually stopped using it halfway through the night because I thought it was bugged.  I also use Archimonde's Darkness because I liked being able to rotate between 3 and 4 Darksoul buffs on my burn phase before I found it on cooldown.  This talent is pointless now, it was borderline pointless before I just enjoyed having it.  With zero BE generation from RoF you go OOM before you reach Burn Phase, on average I would have 2.5 BE when normally I would be at 4.  Starting burn phase at 3.5 doesn't work well anymore because of the reduced generation as well.

Someone else might have to look into it with a simulation program but I think haste may catch a bump in stat priority and this makes Cataclysm seems better overall as a skill because of being able to apply Immolate, which is really the best way to reliably get BE generation now.

All of this being said, I was still competitive DPS wise, but really ST was where I had reliable DPS.  2-3 targets was decent as long as I was clever with Havoc, 4-5 I would fall behind.  5+ if I could use F+B I would do pretty decently, but would still burn through BE once it became 4 targets, which wasn't an issue before with RoF generation.

Every time I try to do 5 mans as Demo, I just want to go back to destruction.  I love Demo, but I enjoy the play style of destruction 10x more for that type of content.  Shadowburn for life.

On another note, I thought I'd go spend some time on the dummies in my Garrison, but the one Tank dummy beside the DPS dummy kept fucking up my pet. lol

I knew I should have just done Mastery enchants on my gear instead of Crit ones.  Don't much feel like changing them right now until mats are a bit more abundant, so Dooom crits come at me!

Only reason I could see my burst DPS was because we did the achievement on the last boss in Skyreach - burn the boss without killing the shielding adds.  I went GoServ, Demonic Servitude, AD, used 2 potions, and had Bloodlust.  I know it's not a stable situation.  I won't be able to see how Demo does until I'm on my plane ride back from the Caribbean.  I'll be paying for wifi so I can look at my guild's logs.  I should be able to see some things pretty easily.  I need moar data.  More than can be provided from 5 mans.

Let's all group up and queue for MC as 20 warlocks. If our DPS is good, fights will be short. If our DPS sucks, the fight goes long enough to get meaningful information about why it sucks,

Haha, my one run through MC consisted of 10 hunters and 11 paladins, and the one warlock that we had at the start left somewhere around Garr (I think, wasn't paying too much attention to who left/joined).
