6.0.3 hot fixes thread. Are we happy with the buffs given to us?

Recommended Posts

Looks like a good buff to affliction. I'd be interested to see how that performs now. Probably going to give it a shot sometime soon in some 5 mans. Looks like I need to start collecting gear for it. Nerf destruction aoe, but a slight buff to it's single target/havoc cleave. I'll take that. Of all of the changes, I like the looks of the changes to Demo more. I feel like the buff to Demonbolt damage could have been a little higher, but I guess we'll see how that goes.

Destro lost massive dps in every situation but patchwerk...so no.

So many of us are sick of playing Destruction, though.  It was the pigeonhole spec with where other stuff was.  Affliction DoT buff should make it very viable again.  Demo buffs (or rather, rescinded nerfs) make the spec playable again.  This is VERY enjoyable to those of us sick of Destruction!

Demonbolt did NOT need more than a 10% buff.  They nerfed it 30% because it made Demo the best spec in the game.  It's properly balanced now.

For those who didn't see the numbers...

Affliction

•Agony's damage has been increased by 20%.
•Unstable Affliction's damage has been increased by 20%.

Demonology

•Shadow Bolt's damage has been increased by 25%.
•Soul Fire's damage has been increased by 25%.
•Touch of Chaos' damage has been increased by 25%.

Destruction

•Chaos Bolt's damage has been increased by 8%.
•Conflagrate's damage has been increased by 8%.
•Immolate's damage has been increased by 8%.
•Incinerate's damage has been increased by 8%.
•Rain of Fire's damage has been reduced by 60% and no longer generates Burning Embers.
•Shadowburn's damage has been increased by 8%.

Talents

•Demonbolt's (Demonology) damage has been increased by 10%.
•Soulburn: Haunt (Affliction) now extends up to 130% of its normal duration when refreshed, similar to periodic effects.

This is good for Affliction.  Soulburn:Haunt can now be used with Pandemic effects meaning you don't have to wait for it to drop off.  This is huge for its maintenance.  The 20% buff to the big DoTs is also critically good.

Demonology buffs will return the spec to its wonderfulness that it was at 90 without the Demonbolt overpoweredness.  I still think DB is the way to go - will test thoroughly.

Destruction getting an 8% flat buff is to balance out the loss of Rain of Fire.  We'll see where it lays out.  Balance aside, at least we don't have to cast RoF single target anymore.  This also changes Destruction's talents - KJC may come back into play to give Destruction some mobility when called for while AD wins for short term.

Don't enjoy playing destro -> ok that it is now complete trash.

Somewhere in there logic was lost, I think. Probably not your intention but that's totally how it came across...

RoF was roughly 40% of our embers for aoe. We can't even use FnB until 8 targets now. It's literally dead and buried in the back of my garrison.

When Destro is left alone for a while, they'll fix it.  Or maybe they expect Crit to be so good for us that we'll sustain on crits.  That's illogical on their side.  I know Destruction isn't good, but it wasn't good in PvP either, so it's likely to be avoided long enough to be corrected.

Mixed feelings.  I am very happy to see all but one of our changes be Buffs....and honestly I dont even care about Damage right now.  I love destro because of how it play mechanically, and they just took away one of those mechanics.  This is going to change how great the spec is to play and farm with out in the wild.  And Manorroths?  I mean come on, this is one of my favorite spells, finally starting to see some love since its was nerfed ... and... its now again.. nerfed to uselessness outside of a larger AoE range for tagging quest mobs while farming.

Demo, so glad to see it back.  Here's hoping its back enough.

This. I don't even know what to do on trash packs... so we dont use RoF or FnB any more, and on single target: i don't like KJC much, it was always on CD when i needed it. Whats the best way to use of AD? Or just take another spec?

I'm also really happy with the changes. I was really looking forward to raid as Demo since 6.0 and drop Destro for a while.

Although, I currently had CMs in sight so that does change the game plan. I'm curious to see if Demo with Cataclysm can make the cut.

Well looks like Demo is viable again, will jump back over when the hotfix is live, as its my favourite spec.

The spec threads are going to be interesting over the coming days looking at peoples theorycrafting

Same as 5.4, although I would guess that the spec attunement makes Mastery king. After that you can do whatever you want with Haste and Crit for fury gen.

I prefer Haste, though Crit is also fine.

Bottom line I'll take whatever as long as it isn't Versatility, yuck!

Overall I'm happy with the changes.  I'm guessing the RoF nerf was because they wanted destro locks to have more of a penalty for moving, and they wanted you to plan out when you used conflag instead of simply whenever its up.

The other specs badly needed buffs and I'm glad they got some love.  Hopefully they are raid viable now going into next week.  Its just my opinion but Destro is just too simple and mage-like to me and never really played like a dot/demon Warlock class.  Not that Chaos Bolt isn't a fun spell :)

I have no idea how to Gem/enchant as Demo now.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As liquid said, Mastery is probably king if you're going for demo only.

Personally i'm thinking of going Mastery > Haste=multi since we're still in 5man / CM stage where doom (hence crit for more imps) isn't really shining on trash.

Talking about Cm's, kinda stuck at a crossroads speccwise now. I had 2 destro specs (one for bosses & 1 for trash) but with RoF nerfs...

Either going  demo (manoroth/cata) for trash + destro (kiljaeden (or AD) + Servitude) OR 2 x demo specs (one wilt demonbolt for bosses)

since crit was usually better than mastery for destro (imo), the 2ndaries don't line up perfectly anymore if i go demo/destro , so yea.. annoying

I know I'm in a very small minority here, but I've never run to respec the minute this or that becomes FOTM or I didn't like a particular nerf. If I'm not comfortable playing a particular spec, I'm not going to pump out as much damage with it. From all the way  back to ICC, I was affliction and demonology. My mage was fire when fire wasn't cool. I knew I simply wasn't going to be "pwning the meters" (which never interested me, anyway-- my favorite UI addon is SpamageMeters) with any FOTM spec if I wasn't comfortable playing it. We all need to play the way we need to play, and while I respect people insisting on always playing "FOTM," it never worked for me. Even though I respect the FOTM method, I never really understood it. I'd still like to, if I can, even if I wouldn't play that way because it feels awkward.

I'm content with the changes, but for different reasons than most of the other people here.  If I'm lucky, maybe I won't get yelled at as much just for being the spec I am.

Aff dps is definitely feeling a little better but does anyone else feel that soul shard generation is just too slow? Keeping up Soulburn: Haunt seems literally impossible in a single-target fight.

      Hey all,

I'm Katka, and since there's a lack of guides for Gladiator Warriors as far as DPSing goes, I opened up a site that includes a DPS guide as well as simulations that show exactly what Gladiator's need and want.

So I've been struggling with the Frost Bomb vs Ice Nova, and from what I've seen - many others have also asked themselves which one is better.

      So here is my opinion:

Quick fights: Ice Nova wins. (PvP and Leveling)
Longer fights: Frost Bomb wins. (Dungeons and Raids)

Here are some calculations: (SP = Spell Power)
Frost Bomb deals 120% SP to the primary target, and 75% to the rest.
Ice Nova deals 400% SP to the primary target, and 200% to the rest.

Based on this, you will need to generate 3~4 Fingers of Frost every 25 seconds (Ice Nova's recharge time) for Frost Bomb to be better than Ice Nova.
