Low Dps - need help

Recommended Posts

I did some HC Highmaul last night and i feel im not performing well enough so i came to ask for help.

Video (fight starts at 19:55) http://www.twitch.tv/privatemanos/b/596799063

Im sure i didnt have a "perfect" rotation but that shouldnt cost me 2k-4k dps.Simulations say that i should be doing 21k dps, plus the other hunters in my group do 21k dps with simmilar gear. (i did 17,3k dps @ Kargath Bladefist, around 15k @ The Butcher)

I'm playing as MM hunter for 10 years , i was always performing amazingly and if i had a problem i always found the solution by myself. Now i dont know whats wrong so i came to ask for help. My best bet is that my mediocre rotation in combination with my mediocre secondary stats are the cause of the problem.

I have to mention that  with my old gear (BiS Heroic dungeon 635ilvl gear) I was doing 20k dps in  LFR Molten core without flask/pots.

Thanks for your time and any help/advice you can provide.

Watching the video, you immediately made a mistake of not casting Chimaera at the start of the fight. Chimaera is cast on cooldown, always. Murder of Crows and Kill shot have roughly the same priority as Chimaera.

Rapid Fire also should be used on cooldown, even when target is >80% HP and you have Heroism up.

Also note that simulationcraft shows perfect DPS, when the rotation is made without any mistakes, on a completely stationary fight. No human can play that well, so it's fine to be 1-2k below what simcraft can do.

Hmm yeah, for some reason i missed the part on the guide that includes Chimera even above 80% target health.

Im gonna try the rapid fire thing too. I guess my head was stuck to Cata/MoP where Rapid+hero made you casting below GCD and that was some kind of a waste.

I will post the results here after my next raid on wednesday. Lets hope there will be one after miss-performing that bad.

Now that i see it from the correct perspective my rotation was awfull.

About the simulation(simulationcraft) you can change the fight style at options and have a more precise result.

Thanks for the fast reply you are my hero.

Looking at your Kargath kill from the logs:

  • You used AMoC 5 times in a 5:17 fight, means you missed one possible cast, not a massive deal, but every little bit counts

  • You cast CS 22 times, but based on your fight length, you should have been able to cast it ~35 times.  This is likely a cause of your DPS loss, ~13 Chimera Shots worth of DPS is massive.

  • You used GT 15 times out of a possible 21, which is probably fine if you weren't using it when the boss was above 80% health

  • Your Sniper Training uptime is 73.65%, which is low.  Assuming your mastery is 7%-8%, as mine is, you are losing 7%-8% of your damage every time it falls off.  Over the course of the fight, this probably didn't account for more than 1%-2% DPS loss, but every little bit adds up

  • Your Kill Shot casts were 16.  Not knowing how long Kargath was below 35%, I cant tell if this is fine or not, but on a 5:17 fight, I would guess he was below 35% for at least 1:45. which gives you a possible of 20 Kill Shots.  Might be another area to add more DPS, but 16/20 isnt bad

EDIT:

  • You also only used Rapid Fire 3 times, out of a possible 6.  Another area that probably hurt your DPS.

Rapid Fire is a 2 min cd, so 3 uses is perfect (Pull, 2 min, 4 min).  However, you did delay your first rapid fire, which should not be done.

My mistake, removed that piece of erroneous information.  Not sure why I processed Rapid Fire as having a 1 min CD

Chimaera > Kill > Crows.

In that order.

Like I posted in the other thread, casting Crows before Chimaera and Kill Shot gave my simcraft a slight DPS boost, but the difference is negligible.

Importantly, simcraft uses Crows only outside of careful aim, which is a DPS loss, which is why I wrote "roughly the same priority". Whichever to cast first - mileage may vary, the important part is to cast Crows even inside careful aim.

Crows has a longer cooldown, delaying it will have less of an effect on DPS than delaying our main shot by 1 global. The DPS increase in simc is interesting though. Not sure why.

It's probably because the fight duration in simcraft varies by 20% by default, which probably means that additional crows cast can be made in certain conditions, which leads to increase of the average DPS.

Yeah that's likely.

I went ahead and fucked with it myself. This was my result.

Margin of error is about 29 DPS.

How long do you think Crows needs to be able to last for it to be worth more than KS?  Reason I ask is what I call "AMoC Sniping".  Basically, AMoC comes off CD right as an add is getting low on health.  Using AMoC on that add could end up being a DPS gain if you can have the add die within the 15-sec AMoC window, thus resetting its CD.  But, at the same time, if it only gets to tick 2-3 times, is it really worth the GCD and Focus?

Honestly, as close to 15 seconds as possible. 10+ I would say is what you should aim for.

Cool, what I figured, there are quite a few opportunities to take advantage of "AMoC sniping" with that threshold (Kargath stands, Brackenspore adds, Tectus motes, e.g.).  Might be something worht menitoining in the Tier 17 discussion.  More AMoC uptime is always a good thing :)

Yeah, it'll change as the tier progresses, adds dying faster and faster every day.

With the DPS our guild has had to PuG, I am happy when the adds die at all :)

Do Chimaera over all at all times.

If you have to Steady Shot to cast Crows, and you can avoid it by doing Kill Shot while your passive focus regen puts you above 30.

If you have the focus to cast Crows. Do it over Kill Shot.

Raid/Class Spots Are Open To Any Applicant If The Player Is The Right Fit
A guild formed with an ambition for progression and a love for M+ we decided to make the move from Silvermoon Alliance and form a guild to take our focus to the next level, Cutting Edge in 10.1 being the next step.
We believe in building a guild by recruit players of a similar goal and mentality whether it be for raiding or for push score in Mythic plus. We value loyalty, honesty and a positive attitude towards setbacks. Communication skills are an absolute must.
      Raid Schedule
      Wednesday 20:30-23:00 Sunday 20:30-23:00
      Current Progression
      9/9HC 5/9M
What are we looking for recruitment wise?
We're currently open to recruiting DPS classes listed above, as we aim to solidify a stable 25-player roster. We're looking to provide competition to existing members and choose the best 25 players to proceed with for next tier.
      Contact Information:
      Discord; tomsen and lora1506
Think you'd be a good fit?
If you believe that you are a player that is looking to achieve the same goals as us then why not contact us and see if we can achieve our goals together!

<Fun is for Casuals> is a serious but casual horde guild on US-Hyjal. We are serious about raiding without the intense hours. Even when recruitment status is none, we will accept exceptional applications for all classes.
Our raid times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30PM to 8:30PM server (PST) with raid invitations sent out a few minutes prior to that.
We're interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
Raid attendance is essential. We don't want people sitting on the bench but we also want to make sure we're raiding 6 hours per week. We expect you to be available for at least 90% of our raids. Be on time and prepared for raids. This includes flasks and other consumables. Discord is mandatory and a working mic is desired. You're appropriately geared for our current content. Effort and thought have been put into your gear/gem/enchant choices. You wouldn't show up for a job interview looking like a *filtered*, why would you apply to a guild with improper gems or some insane spec? You're up to date with your class. We expect our raiders to perform to the best of their abilities. You have a computer that's not run with hamster power or requires a hand crank. Some encounters are taxing on a computer's resources so if your toon can't even handle Orgrimmar it's not likely to do well with 20+ whelps that need AOE'ing. You may be interested in us because:
<Fun is for Casuals> uses the personal loot system. There is no loot council, or DKP. We won't eat your babies the first time you stand in something you have no business being in. Repeatedly do it and we'll break out the bibs and BBQ sauce. We provide a limited amount of consumables and flasks on hard mode raid nights.  Discord isn't a circus during raids. We're focused on the job at hand and you should be too. We don't want someone to miss a an interrupt because they were distracted by fart jokes. We are not interested in you if you fit the following criteria:
You roll on BoE items then sell them. Unwilling/unable to spend an entire evening on one boss during progression. While this is rare, it can happen. Drama queens. If you have a problem bring it up to E. This is his job. Don't announce it in guild chat or during a raid. Your issue will have nothing to do with 99% of the guild. You are 17 or younger. We try to keep guild and discord chat PG-13 but occasionally a few four letter words appear out of nowhere. Additionally, we don't want someone's mom interrupting their raiding to get homework or the dishes done. Follow the instructions at https://gow.gg/fun-is-for-casuals under the Recruitment tab if you would like to apply.

I am going the corpselance support build for Necromancer and the build has me taking Corpselance with Brittle and the pestilence set on top of that, if I were to take off the ability Corpselance and change it to another ability say for example Bone Spikes with Frost spikes, would the damage decrease an amount that it would not be worth it?

      Hi Team
I am recently returning from a few years away from the game and I have decided to go back to my much loved main throughout wrath, the feral druid. I have always been a cut above the rest and managed to be top dps all through wrath.
I was reading your guide and noticed in the talents you don't take savage roar. Can you explain the match behind this as to me it seems like the more viable option.
