Minimum TEB stacks with trinket procs etc.

Recommended Posts

Hi Truulte!

In the thread https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/8194-how-do-you-optimally-open-up-as-a-windwalker/

Dolzzy tells us anywhere between 6-11 is okay at least during the opener. The way I interpreted that however (other monks have pointed to this and said that is the amount you want), is that his opener will put us on at least 6 stacks, not that 6 is the minimum.

for mid fight he says the following:

"Yup, It's ok to use TEB before you reach 10 stacks. Use it when the stars align, meaning when your trinket, tigerstrike has proc'd etc.. don't be afraid to use it between-10 stacks. I suggest you track these pocs using weak auras or "ExtraCD" Addon if you don't already. This is what separates the average ww monks and the good ones. "

I take it as you can use it with even as little as 2 or even 1 stack(s), of course this depends on the length of the proc and what proc it is. (Mastery trinkets you would not pop TEB for, obviously) Do not think there is a trinket that procs mastery in this tier, but just saying in general.

that's just my two cents, wait until a more experienced windwalker comes in and proves me wrong though

So one of those procs justify using it with less than 10 stacks, or with 2 or more procs at the same time?

It would be slightly lame if it's a dps decrease, to use it with less than 10 stacks, with just one proc up, when paying so much attention to every proc.

TEB is very situational, It's really hard to use it incorrectly you can pop it with one trinket proc, tiger strike proc or simply no procs at all when it's called for. For example if a boss has time period where it takes increased dmg by 20%. It doesn't make sense for you hold your TEB just because you don't have no trinket procs at the time. Another example if a set of adds have priority over the boss and need to die fast for whatever reason pop it. Using TEB at 1 or 2 stacks for a trinket proc is a waste because we generate stacks so fast. So truulte it's NOT a dps decrease to use TEB with one trinket proc when you have less then 10 stacks.

I would say it depends on what procs you do not have, and if popping TEB now will make you lose out on doing it on better (or more) procs later on.

Let's say we have a Tiger Strikes and 6 stacks of TEB. We pop it and gain a bit of DPS.

A few seconds later, TEB and Tiger Strikes have both run out and our trinket procs, with Tiger Strikes (since it has no ICD) and Frostwolf enchants, but we have no brew stacks to use.

This will sadly result in less DPS than if we had saved brew stacks for the later procs. This is partly our fault for not tracking the trinkets CD, but the same scenario could happen with Tiger Strikes and Frostwolf, which is completely out of our control and just plain bad luck.

My own sims put my DPS to be able to go from 22-29K (average 25K), that is quite the difference. Since this is also when the specc is played perfectly and with 100% damage uptime it goes to show how RNG DPS can be at times.

To summarize, in my opinon it is justifiable to use TEB with 1 proc. Provided we will not gain more or better procs afterwards where TEB would've been of better use. Sadly almost completely up to RNG.
