[BALANCE] Help my DPS on Brackenspore and Twins, Logs inside

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

my guild is starting progress in mythic highmaul the next ids. i have a few problems with my newly leveled balance druid.

here is my armory profile http://eu.battle.net/wow/de/character/blackrock/Nidaree/advanced

as you can see my enchants are either crit or mastery, thats why im not really sure whats best and thus enchanted what i thought was best on the items at the time when i got them. im pretty sure crit mastery and haste are pretty pretty close so that shouldnt be a big problem?

specifid encounter related problems i have are brackenspore and twins. as we have not started progressing them on mythic yet i can only link logs of our HC kills. im doing very small dps on both fights and cant really figure out what and how to do things better.

this is our most recent twins kill: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/DmdBhxTpLgJK6P28#fight=47

this is the most recent brackenspore kill: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/DmdBhxTpLgJK6P28#fight=41

you can see some other tries along with a normal run mixed together, feel free to analyze any of them.

if i can give more information for you to be able to help me better, please let me know.

thanks in advance :)

(for anyone wondering: this is an exact copy of a post i opened on other forums, i am human though :P )

You should just enchant and gem mastery on everything. They are close, but mastery is the best for your enchants.

Now, I 'main' resto but I've been doing a lot of balance as well (I was doing some mythic twins dps, but ended up healing, now I'm gonna start progressing on brackenspore as balance next week). I'm gonna try my best to analyse the log but I'm unsure of how well I'll do.

To start, the best thing I can tell you on Twins is to try to keep up starfall as much as possible, it is really always good for 2 targets.  On Brackenspore you kinda have to choose.  Use it when there are spore shooters and a fungal flesh eater up.

Your opener looks ok. You may have have done your 2nd set of moonfire's a little early, but its fine.  You may want to put beserking and your spell power trinket on a different macro and use it AFTER you put your dots up and right before you start casting starfire.  Since everything is dynamic now, it doesnt matter when you use these temporary cooldowns for your dots since they can span the duration of the CD.  Your casts are what really matters for the CDs

You only used Incarnation / Celestial alignment once in a 5~m fight. You could have used it at least once more.

And to be honest, I don't know enough about boomkin logs to understand if you're doing something rotationally wrong during the fight. I tried looking through, but I'm just not really sure what else to look for.  Sorry, I tried.

a small thing I could say is this:  You used 26 starsurges, but gained 20 during the fight via Shooting stars.  Now, since starsurge is naturally gained every 30s, that would add another 9~ for the fight, plus another 3 that you start with.  So you had about 30-32 starsurges to play with, but only used 26.

edit: nvm I forgot to include starfall charges, which puts you at 31 so nvm you're good there.

the only other advice i can probably give you on the twins log is try to move a little bit less.  Learn the encounter and predict where you should stand to avoid moving so you can hard cast more nukes.

for Twins:

watching your buff uptimes I see only 1 use of Inc, CA, Berserking and Draenic Intellect Potion at the beginning of the fight while having a almost 5 minute long fight.

You also did well on your dot uptimes.  Really the only bad thing I see is you missed that incarnation / CA / potion 3m into the fight, and possibly more starfall on that fight.

thanks a lot guys :)

theres a german/english speaking streamer grill, that plays moonkin, her name is nagura. she said, that on 2 targets starfall is only a dps gain if in lunar, so overall double dot and normal SS rotation is higher dps. those starfalls i casted i needed to cast to dump charges.

Typical star fall rule of thumb is 3 or more mobs. However when it comes to twin ogrons due to movement etc I've been told it is more beneficial to use starfall.

What I've found out concerning mythic twins is that you do not want to waste any procs on starfall during opener (had to test it myself ^.^) but at some parts of the fight you just do not have the time to stand and cast, so starfall is usable not to increase dps, but to not lose dps, as i've had moments when I've lost a stack or even two stacks of empowerment due to movement.

However I'd like to check about talent choices. I feel I'm badly not up to date... Is it Incarnation + Euphoria best atm, while using incarnation with CA? I've been running with SoTF + Euphoria for a long time now..

Anytime you use starfall with soul of the forest,  you're losing a lot of dps because you're not making use of the talent.

In general I've been using inc+euphoria.

For Twins, I'm pretty sure starfall in the opener is higher dps.

With SoTF + Euphoria this was not the case for me. With Incarnation it may be.

Why are you using Soul of the forest on twins? Anytime you have more than 1 target Inc comes out more dps because of the double dots.

It's mainly because my boomkin is outdated due to having switch to resto like for everything except for first boss ^.^ we lack a couple of healers in our group, so I have to do, what I have to do :)

SotF and Euphoria play well together because between them, they cause your Lunar/Solar Empowerment to both reduce the cast time and further increase the power of your Starfire/Wrath. But it really does depend on being able to be a stationary turret for the whole fight; I use it because I don't have the time to raid working 80 hours a week and in LFR you don't have to move out of crap too often. If I was doing Challenge Modes, you bet I would be using a different pairing that is more friendly to movement.

Anyway, with SotF/Euphoria, against a single target, I use Starfall when I have max charges of my current cycle's Empowerment and max Starfall/Starsurge charges, so that I don't overwrite buffs. With less than max charges of Empowerment, I may take a chance and use my nuke before Starsurging again. It's all situational. Gotta move? Dots don't need refreshing? I might decide to Starfall there.

The fact still doesn't change that if you're specced into SotF, each time you use a starfall, you're wasting the value you could have had by using incarnation.  You're literally throwing damage away when you use it with SotF.

It's true that with SotF you want to minimize use of Starfall and it is best suited to single-target fights for that reason. If you are capped on Starsurge charges and your Empowerment is active, you'll still want to use Starsurge on a single target.. (234% of spell damage + Eclipse bonus for Starsurge, vs. 200% over 10 seconds for Starfall), but Starfall is better on two targets and up. If you don't have Empowerment then Starsurge is the right choice against 1-2 targets. If you have more targets than that, you'll want to keep Starfall up as much as you can, but if you're going to have multiple targets for the majority of the fight, Incarnation is a better talent to take.
