Looking for help on my 2H Frost DK

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I played blood all last xpac but have always wanted to play Frost DPS. I have finally gotten the opportunity to, and I believe I am doing poorly. Most notably, I feel like I cap resources way too often, and am not using the pooling resources mechanic properly to use all my oblits on KM procs.

My gear is kinda crappy, while my item lvl is ok, I've got a lot of gear with crit strike and mastery, also my trinkets absolutely suck. I imagine once I replace those, I'll do a lot better.

I would love any critiques you can give me. I really want to perform well, as I love this class and spec particularly.

Armory: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/aerie-peak/Vodmor/simple

Spec: Frost, 2H

Warcraft Logs: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2GgnDTdyAQkMtN4K#fight=12&type=summary&source=7

We didn't down him, but I feel like I performed the "best" I did on this pull. Let me know if you need more info, I appreciate in advance any help!

The problem with Imperator is that there is an insane amount of down time for us DK's as we do not have any gap closers when we switch to for example the mages - you could use Death's advance for that but it isn't much.

Defile on the small non explosive adds also might help.

I have about the same ilevel and I do about the same amount of dmg on that fight if I'm lucky so I don't know what much else tongue.png

What I can see in your logs is that you might be spamming frost strike a tad to much.

Do you spam howling blast even without a rime proc?

In terms of resource management I suggest having a read at the conditions on when to use what and get storms WA rotation helper from here:
https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/8360-storms-2h-frost-rotation-helpers-weak-auras/

Helped me a great deal :)

I also Suggest you get a swing timer so you don't waste KM procs on FS.

I try to sneak in as many frost strikes as possible between swings. Is this bad? I try to never use a KM proc on FS,  but I found with the haste changes that I was capping RP a lot, so I had to FS like as many times as possible between swings.

I don't ever use howling blast without a rime proc on ST (unless FF needs refreshing), but when the big add comes out, I use all Frost/Death runes on Howling Blast unless a KM proc comes up.

It all depends how your raid does it and where the boss is tanked. The only real downtime is indeed between mages, but then again you can more than make up for it during the other phases.

Not showing off or anything, but this week I got a rank 20 (now its down to 24) as a frost DK for that fight on heroic: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/HtbBQpgkahnc6fJW#fight=23&type=summary&source=18

The key is to use Soul Reaper as much as you can on whatever kind of add before they die and to make sure your diseases are quickly spread out. Also towards the last 20-30% of any add, do not worry about keeping any diseases up anymore but instead just nuke with Obliterate/FS. This has proven to be a win-win for me as of late for that fight.

Why would you use frost/death runes on a Howling Blast? As far as I know HB is only used when you have a rime proc or when you have 4+ adds but on ST or less then 4 adds I don't think that's wise.

Better save those runes up for Obliterate.

Ah okay. My misunderstanding there. I'll only HB if there are 4+ targets from here out. I'll just ST the big add.
