1. Preface

Chen uses a unique resource called "Brew" and Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew is the only way to regenerate Brew after using it to cast abilities.

Chen is one of the few Heroes that has an ideal skill rotation, meaning you should use abilities in a fix sequence in order to increase their efficiency.

Rotation (starting at full Brew):

2. Flying Kick

Chen Flying Kick
Flying Kick (Q) World of Warcraft Chen
  • Mana: 10
  • Cooldown: 5 seconds

Kick through target enemy, dealing 246 (117 + 4% per level) damage.

Flying Kick Icon Flying Kick causes Chen to damage an enemy target for a medium amount and also places him behind the target. This ability costs 10 Brew.

Flying Kick Icon Flying Kick is Chen's most reliable source of mobility and allows him to engage team fights or to escape from enemies. Similar to Illidan's Dive Icon Dive, Flying Kick can also be used on enemy Structures like Forts and Walls to re-position yourself.

It is also important to remember that Flying Kick always places you behind your chosen target, which is why this ability is an excellent tool to potentially body block retreating opponents. This allows your teammates to catch up and secure a kill.

3. Keg Smash

Chen Keg Smash
Keg Smash (W) World of Warcraft Chen
  • Mana: 20
  • Cooldown: 1 seconds

Smash your keg, dealing 110 (52 + 4% per level) damage and drenching affected enemies in Brew, slowing them by 25% for 3 seconds.

Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash causes Chen to damage and slow each enemy by 25% in a small circular area in front of him. This ability costs 20 Brew.

Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash proves to be both a great chasing and peeling ability thanks to its movement speed slow. Use it on fleeing opponents to catch up to them or use it on engaging enemies to slow their advance towards your teammates. Either way, make sure to combine it with Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire in order to trigger its burning effect.

Like Flying Kick Icon Flying Kick or Breath of Fire, Keg Smash also works on enemy Structures, which makes Chen a pretty good pusher overall. In order to clear minion waves most efficiently, we recommend placing Keg Smash's radius over the Wizard minion to hit both melee and ranged minions as well.

4. Breath of Fire

Chen Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire (E) World of Warcraft Chen
  • Mana: 30
  • Cooldown: 5 seconds

Breathe a cone of flames, dealing 211 (100 + 4% per level) damage. Enemies soaked in Brew are set on fire, dealing 211 (100 + 4% per level) additional damage over 3 seconds.

Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire causes Chen to breathe a cone of flames, damaging each enemy in its path for a medium amount. If an enemy is still affected by Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, they are also set on fire, which causes them to take a small amount of damage each second for 3 seconds. This ability costs 30 Brew.

Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire provides Chen with a short range AoE ability, which damages enemies in front of Chen, revealing cloaked Heroes if they find themselves in its radius. Furthermore, its damage can be increased significantly if used on enemies slowed by Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash.

5. Storm, Earth, Fire

Chen Storm, Earth, Fire
Storm, Earth, Fire (R) World of Warcraft Chen
  • Cooldown: 100 seconds

Split into three elemental spirits for 12 seconds, each with 75% of your maximum Health and a unique ability. If all three spirits are killed, Chen will die as well. Storm can grant your spirits Movement Speed. Earth can leap to an area and slow enemies. Fire can grant your spirits Attack Speed.

Storm, Earth, Fire Icon Storm, Earth, Fire splits Chen into three Elemental Spirits for 15 seconds, each having 50% of Chen's maximum health. Furthermore, Chen gains two new leaping abilities, allowing him to either separate the Elemental Spirits or rally them in one place. Each Spirit has a different type of attack: Storm can increase the Movement Speed of all Spirits, Earth can cause all Spirits to leap towards a target area, applying a Movement Speed Slow, while Fire can increase all Spirits' Attack Speed. Note that if all three Elemental Spirits are killed, Chen dies as well.

Storm, Earth, Fire Icon Storm, Earth, Fire is capable of adding a so-called "second health bar" to Chen, which means his original health gets replaced by that of his three Elemental Spirits. In addition to becoming harder to kill, Storm, Earth, Fire also provides Chen with great mobility, as he is able to manually reposition the Spirits to either body block enemy Heroes or to retreat away from them.

6. Fortifying Brew

Chen Fortifying Brew
Fortifying Brew (D) World of Warcraft Chen
  • Trait
  • Cooldown: 5 seconds

Drink from your keg, gaining 40 Brew and 465 (221 + 4% per level) temporary Shields per second, up to a maximum of 1394 (662 + 4% per level) while drinking. Shields persist for 2 seconds after you stop drinking.

Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew allows Chen to drink from his Keg, which causes him to remain frozen in place, gaining 40 Brew and stacking shields each second up to a maximum of 3 seconds. The shields persist for 2 seconds after Chen stops drinking. This ability has a 5-second cooldown.

As long as Fortifying Brew is channeling, Chen generates shields while drinking, however, you can cancel the drinking process at any time by simply moving or using another ability. Keep in mind that enemy stun and silence effects also interrupt Fortifying Brew.

Using Fortifying Brew efficiently usually requires some practise and experience, but there are a few things that can help you choose the right moment to use it:

  • use it as soon as you notice the enemy team starts focusing you;
  • use it to drain enemy Structures' ammo on you if it is safe to do so;
  • use it to tank neutral Mercenary Camps and Bosses to prevent allies from taking unnecessary damage;
  • use it to replenish your Brew count both out of combat and in combat, however, make sure to cancel drinking in time in order to stay close to enemy targets.
