1. Battlefield of Eternity

Battlefield of Eternity
Battlefield of Eternity

The High Heavens and the Burning Hells clash, quite literally, in a battlefield that represents their everlasting struggle. Two Immortals, ancient warriors locked in a duel to the death, need your help to prevail against their eternal foe. Vanquish the enemy Immortal, and you'll find yourself charging over hallowed or profane ground—right onto the enemy's doorstep.

Engage in Immortal Combat

Two Immortals fight at the center of the map. Help your Immortal prevail, and lay waste to the enemy's Forts.

Employ Eternal Tactics

Protect your Immortal by obliterating the opposing team, or descend upon the enemy Immortal with relentless fury.

Hire Unique Mercenaries

Bolster your forces with Fallen Shaman and cunning Impalers, who will lend their powers to your cause!

Battlefield of Eternity is a large map of average duration, with only two lanes instead of three. It favours Heroes with sustained healing and damage. The large number of bushes and multiple choke-points puts an emphasis on flanking, making low mobility Heroes more vulnerable.

Since Battlefield of Eternity places importance on early game team fights and pushing, it is Illidan's second worst map, after Haunted Mines. The close fighting quarters makes it easy to hit multiple enemy Heroes with Metamorphosis Icon Metamorphosis, but it is also easier for the enemy team to focus damage on to you. Therefore, it is extremely important that you do not overextend. Stay within range of your Support at all times.

2. Blackheart's Bay

Blackheart's Bay
Blackheart's Bay

The ghost pirate Blackheart has staked his claim upon the realm of Mistharbor. His undead pirate crew has poured onto the streets, claiming the once thriving marketplace as their new den of villainy.

Collect Doubloons

Attack treasure chests, mercenaries, and skeletons to collect doubloons.

Turn in Doubloons

Hand your doubloons over to Blackheart or you will drop them all when you die!

Bombard Your Enemies

After receiving enough doubloons from your team, Blackheart will bombard your enemy's forts!

Blackheart's Bay is a very large map of long duration. It has plenty of Mercenary and Pirate Camps and very large open areas, both of which appeal to Illidan.

You will want to stay near the top two lanes until you reach Level 4, at which point you will want to capture the Ogre (easy) Camp on your side of the map, followed by the Pirate Camps. Continue taking the camps and expanding to the Knights (hard) Camp at Level 6 or 7, all the while ganking lanes intermittently. If a team fight breaks out, a Doubloon Chest spawns, or your team is otherwise contesting the enemy, you must be there to assist your team.

3. Cursed Hollow

Cursed Hollow
Cursed Hollow

As one of the first and most ancient realms pulled into the Nexus, the realm of Raven Court has grown large and prosperous over the millennia. The province of Cursed Hollow, a gothic landscape of twisting villages and farmlands, serves as an ideal trial grounds for the Heroes of the Storm.

Collect Tributes

The Raven Lord will periodically create tributes. Gather them for your team!

Curse Your Enemies

Upon capturing three tributes, the Raven Lord will curse your enemies.

Cursed Forts and Minions

Cursed forts will not attack, and cursed minions are reduced to 1 health.

Cursed Hollow is a very large map of average duration. It features plenty of choke points and environmental walls, both of which Illidan can use to his advantage.

Solo the Ogre (easy) Camp immediately when it spawns at 2:00. When the first tribute spawns shortly after, the Ogres will push a lane and the enemy will not be able to kill them unless they send someone to do it, which would leave the fight in your favour (5v4, assuming all players contest it). This is the general idea behind the use of the Mercenary Camps. The same thing can be done for the second tribute, except using the Knights (hard) camp instead.

Illidan's extensive mobility will allow you to navigate the maze of walls that Cursed Hollow has to offer. Both Dive Icon Dive and Metamorphosis Icon Metamorphosis will be your main tools for doing so. However, just because you have extensive mobility does not mean that other members of your team, specifically your healers, do. Be wary of overextending where your team cannot assist you.

4. Dragon Shire

Dragon Shire
Dragon Shire

These lush and deceptively peaceful gardens have grown over time, covering the once molten realm known as Dragon Spire. Beneath this verdant paradise, the ancient power of the dragons was sealed away... and their descendants have neither forgotten nor forgiven the trespasses of those who wronged them.

Control the Shrines

There are two shrines your team needs to control to activate the Dragon Knight's statue.

Free the Dragon Knight

While activated, bring a hero to the statue to free the Dragon Knight from his prison!

Devastate Enemy Forts

Use the Dragon Knight's immense power to level enemy forts!

Dragon Shire is an average sized map of long duration. It is a very straightforward map.

Since your team needs to hold 3 points simultaneously to obtain the Dragon Knight, you will often not have a choice to who pilots the Dragon Knight, as you do with the Garden Terror. If possible, your most immobile ally (excluding healers), like Tyrande or Zagara, should pilot the Dragon Knight, as you are more difficult for the enemy to kill (and therefore do not need the added survivability that piloting the Dragon Knight brings). You can avoid the Dragon Knight's Kick if you use Dive Icon Dive on the Dragon Knight as he charges at you.

Lane with preferably two allies in the bottom lane. This will allow you to immediately leave the lane at 2:00 and take the Ogre (easy) Camp. If you kill an enemy or two in the lane, you can use your allies to help you take the Knights (hard) Camp. You will be able to solo this camp at Level 6, but it is very risky and killing it quickly is advised. When the Dragon Knight is active, the Mercenary Camps will disappear form the map (unless they are being fought when the Dragon Knight is activated). As a result, you should start a Mercenary Camp before your team takes the Dragon Knight if you are not needed to defend the Shrines.

5. Garden of Terror

Garden of Terror
Garden of Terror

Once the royal gardens were a splendor to behold. But lately a shadow has fallen over them... Writhing tendrils creep across the grounds at night, and a number of servants have disappeared while walking its twisting paths. Queen Nightshade claims to be unaware of these incidents, but some are beginning to suspect she has gone mad.

Fight the Shamblers

At night, Shamblers will rise from the gardens.

Collect Seeds

Kill the Shamblers and collect seeds for your team.

Control Garden Terror

With 100 seeds, control a garden terror and destroy your enemies!

Garden of Terror is an average sized map of very long duration. It contains the most Mercenary Camps in the game (not including Boss and Pirate Camps).

As with the other maps, take the Mercenary Camps as they become available, but not at the expense of getting seeds for your terror. You can solo the neutral Garden Terrors, just be wary if the enemy decides to contest. The Mercenary Camps will disappear from the map when either team has an active Garden Terror, unless they are actively being fought. So, you should start taking Mercenary Camps just before your ally pilots the Garden Terror.

When the enemy Garden Terror is sieging your base, be sure to target the Pot first, as it does a significant amount of damage while rendering your buildings useless. Use Dive Icon Dive and Sweeping Strike Icon Sweeping Strike to avoid being polymorphed, and use Evasion Icon Evasion if the Garden Terror targets you with Basic Attacks, since they hit for such a high amount, especially later in the game.

It is usually better to have your least mobile ally (excluding dedicated healers), like Tyrande or Zagara, pilot your Garden Terror, as you are more difficult for the enemy to kill (and therefore do not need the added survivability that piloting the Garden Terror brings).

6. Sky Temple

Sky Temple
Sky Temple

Floating above the vast desert sands of Luxoria, the Sky Temple serves as a center of worship for the snake god, Ka. He stores his great power within the temples, each of them secured by guardians. With such defenses, no warriors would think to seize the god's power for themselves... or would they?

Capture the Temples

Temples will periodically awaken. Stand within their grounds to capture their power!

Hold the Temples

Remain firm and the temple will unleash a blistering onslaught on your enemy's forts!

Defend the Temples

Guardians will try to wrest control of their temples from your team. Hold them off to keep the temple's power for yourselves!

Sky Temple is a large map of short duration. Team fights occur very early into the game, similarly to Haunted Mines, but unlike Haunted Mines, Sky Temple offers an additional lane and more Mercenary Camps.

Sky Temple is not quite as bad for Illidan as Haunted Mines, since if you are having trouble fighting you have the option to switch lanes or take a Mercenary Camp. Like with the Tributes of Cursed Hollow, you will want to take Mercenary Camps immediately before a Temple becomes active, thus forcing your enemy to choose between contesting the Temple or clearing the lane.

Although you should be fighting with your team, you are able to hold a Temple alone for the full duration, if needed.

7. Tomb of the Spider Queen

Tomb of the Spider Queen
Tomb of the Spider Queen

The long forgotten tombs of Luxoria have found a new master. Deep within their timeworn chambers, the Spider Queen Neithis stirs from her ancient slumber. Present her with the gems of power she seeks, and you may just escape with your lives.

Collect Gems

Enemy spider minions and Heroes drop magical gems upon death. Gather as many as you can!

Turn in Gems

Relinquish your gems at one of the Spider Queen's altars or you will drop them all when you die!

Summon Webweavers

Whichever team turns in enough gems first will unleash the Webweavers to destroy their enemy's defenses.

Tomb of the Spider Queen is a small map of long duration. It places more importance on the Hero kills themselves than the objectives that can be taken when Heroes are dead. There are very few, and often inaccessible, Mercenary Camps.

Since you will always want at least one Hero per lane to grab the Gems from minions, Tomb of the Spider Queen is naturally a skirmish-heavy map, at least during the early game. Although this is beneficial for Illidan, you should be wary of fighting until you are at least Level 4, and preferably Level 10.

8. Towers of Doom

Towers of Doom
Towers of Doom

The Grave Keeper and the Raven Lord are engaged in a classic battle of evil versus… different evil? Protective magic shields your Core from enemy Heroes, but nothing will save you from these two masters of the dark arts. Hold the Bell Towers, capture the Altars, and unleash your wicked benefactor's power on your enemies.

Protected Cores

Both Cores are protected by a barrier that cannot be attacked by Heroes. To be victorious, you must activate Altars.

Activate Altars

Periodically Altars will rise across the battlefield. Activate them to have your Bell Towers fire upon the enemy's Core.

Claim Bell Towers

Destroy your enemy's Towers to bring them under your team's control. The more Towers you have, the more damage an Altar will do.

Towers of Doom is a large map of average duration with a unique win condition and mercenary camps. The Forts are recapturable and you cannot damage the enemy Core directly. The mercenaries on this map have the shortest respawn timer of any map.

Illidan's main strength on Towers of Doom is being able to easily solo the Pumpkin (easy) Camps. Additionally, you can sacrifice the Altars (the map objective) on Towers of Doom without falling being in XP, allowing you to avoid fighting during the early game when Illidan is generally at his weakest. The wide open areas and few chokes also favor Illidan's play-style, which requires him to stick to his targets for an extended period of time. Rotate between lanes with your team or lane alone in the top lane during the early game. Look to always capture the Mercenary Camps whenever possible once they spawn on the map.

9. Infernal Shrines

Infernal Shrines
Infernal Shrines

Demonic corruption threatens the Gardens of Hope. Called forth by the Shrines, Punishers prowl the battlefield, terrifying creatures that live to destroy heroes. Defeat the Shrines' Guardians before your enemies do, and the next Punisher will fight for you; fail, and face the demon's wrath.

Activate the Shrines

The Infernal Shrines periodically gather power. Activate them and prepare for a fight.

Defeat Guardians

Slay 30 Guardians before the enemy team to bring forth a mighty Punisher.

Beware the Punisher

Punishers have one of three devastating powers. Be careful, they focus on attacking heroes above all else.

Infernal Shrines is a large map of average duration. The map objectives require a significant commitment and a careful balance from the contesting team. It has a large emphasis on Mercenary Camps.

Infernal Shrines is one of Illidan's best maps. This is because of its heavy focus on Mercenary Camps, especially during the early and mid game. Illidan is fantastic at fighting within the Shrines once the objective spawns, not only because he is able to clear the guardians quickly and efficiently, but because the guardians themselves are perfect for Illidan to target with Dive Icon Dive for utility. When the objective is inactive, look to capture the Mercenary Camps. Always attempt to clear the Siege Camps (Spear Men) before the Bruiser Camps (Shaman).
