1. Heroes Kerrigan Works Well With

1.1. Tyrael

Tyrael Portrait Tyrael's tank nature and “all-in” play style provide a great distraction for Kerrigan as she attempts to pick off vulnerable enemy Heroes. Similar to Kerrigan's Ravage Icon Ravage, El'Druin's Might Icon El'Druin's Might allows Tyrael to engage on enemies when they are positioned behind their frontline or behind terrain. The slow effect of El'Durin's Might, combined with the speed buff from Smite Icon Smite will prevent enemies from kiting Kerrigan once she has pounced on them. In the heat of battle, Righteousness Icon Righteousness will offer Kerrigan some much needed damage mitigation should she become the enemy team's target of focusfire. Both of Tyrael's Level 10 Abilities work beautifully with Kerrigan, giving some versatility to the strategy and play style of both Heroes during each match. Judgment Icon Judgment can be used to hard-engage onto a target, allowing Kerrigan to immediately follow up with Ravage and her Primal Grasp Icon Primal Grasp/Impaling Blades Icon Impaling Blades combo. Should Kerrigan be struggling to stay alive after committing to a fight, Sanctification Icon Sanctification can be utilized to prevent her from being immediately cut down. During the early game, Tyrael can roam with Kerrigan looking to gank enemy Heroes who may find themselves overextended in lane.

1.2. Uther

Uther Portrait Uther is a phenomenal support who alleviates a lot of the hassle that comes with trying to play Kerrigan effectively. Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice provides excellent lock down that Kerrigan can easily capitalize on, especially because it is a targeted ability that Uther will never miss. Uther will also be able to keep Kerrigan from being killed when she is focused during team fights by the massive amount of healing provided by Holy Light Icon Holy Light and Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance, and the utility of Cleanse Icon Cleanse. Should Uther's healing not be enough, Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield will not only prevent Kerrigan's death, but will make her unstoppable and grant her movement speed to catch and kill her desired target without fear of taking lethal damage. If for whatever reason Kerrigan seems to be having no problem with staying alive, Divine Storm Icon Divine Storm can be chosen at Level 10 to provide a massive AoE stun. Aside from Kerrigan's combo of Primal Grasp Icon Primal Grasp/Impaling Blades Icon Impaling Blades, Uther himself can combo Divine Storm, with Hammer of Justice, Benediction Icon Benediction, and another Hammer of Justice for an sensational 3.25 seconds worth of hard crowd control.

1.3. Medivh

Medivh Portrait Medivh is a tricky specialist whose entire kit integrates seamlessly into Kerrigan's play style. Medivh should harass opponents with Arcane Rift Icon Arcane Rift while Kerrigan sets up an opportunity to engage onto a target. Once Kerrigan engages via Ravage Icon Ravage, Medivh is able to provide invaluable damage mitigation by means of Force of Will Icon Force of Will as she will most likely become the enemy team's target of focus. Force of Will becomes all the more beneficial to Kerrigan should Medivh talent into Reabsorption Icon Reabsorption at Level 16. The relatively short cooldown of Kerrigan's abilities and Force of Will means the two can easily bait out incredibly strong enemy abilities, such as Uther's Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield or Falstad's Mighty Gust Icon Mighty Gust. Portal Icon Portal solves one of Kerrigan's biggest hurdles; the inability to disengage from team fights after having jumped in. Either of Medivh's Level 10 abilities (Poly Bomb Icon Poly Bomb and Ley Line Seal Icon Ley Line Seal) can be used against the teammates of Kerrigan's target (such as supports) to prevent them from protecting their ally.

1.4. Tyrande

Tyrande Portrait Tyrande is a great support for Kerrigan in matches where bursting down a specific target is the main priority. Lunar Flare Icon Lunar Flare is a wonderfully reliable form of crowd control that be immediately followed up by Kerrigan's Ravage → Primal Grasp → Impaling Blades combo. Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark should be used on the enemy target of focus to ensure Kerrigan will do massive amounts of damage to them, if not get an immediate kill. Starfall Icon Starfall can be used to prevent enemies from kiting Kerrigan, while Shadowstalk Icon Shadowstalk can be selected to set up game winning surprise attacks and ganks. Sentinel Icon Sentinel should be used frequently to keep tabs on enemy positions and to potentially catch out an overextended opponent.

2. Heroes Kerrigan Is Countered By

2.1. Tyrael, Uther, Medivh, Auriel

Tyrael Portrait Uther Portrait Medivh Portrait Auriel Portrait

Tyrael, Uther, Auriel, and Medivh's ability to prevent a target form being immediately burst down is not only the main reason why they work so well with Kerrigan, but also the primary reason why they counter her. Kerrigan is all about quickly assassinating Heroes with her ability combo. When she unable to do that successfully she is often times left incredibly vulnerable and can be easily picked off.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Tyrael, Uther, Medivh, and Auriel

Playing Kerrigan effectively against these Heroes requires a lot more than simply “use X ability when they use Y”. The two primary factors in successfully dealing with this lot is careful positioning and timing.

  • Positioning — One of Kerrigan's greatest strengths is her ability to gank enemy Heroes caught out of position. This could include Heroes attempting to split-push, capture an isolated objective (such as an Altar on Towers of Doom or a Shrine on Dragon Shire), or simply travel to a location through dangerous territory. Try to always track the location of valuable targets, such as supports or assasssins in order to capitalize on their poor pathing. When the opportunity permits, Kerrigan may try to force a fight when Tyrael, Uther, Medivh, or Auriel are not there to assist. Ideally Kerrigan and her allies should be able to delete a target before they are able to receive backup, or at least force them out of an impending team fight. In team fight situations, Kerrigan can try to flank targets who are either out of reach or the attention of their allies. This can be done over walls easily by proper use of Ravage Icon Ravage, especially if having talented into Eviscerate Icon Eviscerate at Level 13. Kerrigan should never travel beyond the reach of her Allies, unless the opportunity arise for a clean kill, as they will be unable to assist her once her target has been protected by the Heroes listed above.
  • Timing — It is easy to recognize the importance of tracking the cooldown's of Kerrigan's opponents, however much harder to execute. Spend time playing Kerrigan's counters to get a feel for how their abilities work and their cooldowns. When playing Kerrigan against her counters, keep a close eye on their ability use and track when they will be available next, as Kerrigan will need to capitalize on targets when important abilities are on cooldown. Here is a quick run through of easy to notice/track abilities from the Heroes listed above (as well as some others) that could be detrimental to Kerrigan depending on their availability:
