On this page, you will learn how to optimally play Li Li in a competitive environment in Heroes of the Storm. Everything you need to know is explained, from general gameplay to specific tips and tricks.

1. General Li Li Strategy

Li Li's strength grows fairly linearly throughout the game, although she gains a massive power spike at Level 20 with the addition of Kung Fu Hustle Icon Kung Fu Hustle. Avoid laning alone whenever possible since you should always be trying to heal your allies. If you do get stuck laning in a 1v1 scenario, Li Li is more than able to hold her own, although you will have problems trying to waveclear if faced with a strong pushing Hero. With Conjurer's Pursuit Icon Conjurer's Pursuit at Level 1, you want to try to collect Regeneration Globes whenever possible, but do not do so if you risk getting caught and dying.

Even when not actively fighting the enemy team, always be aware of your teammates' health and heal them accordingly with Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew. This is especially true if one of your allies is taking significant damage trying to capture a Mercenary Camp. Since Li Li is very ineffective at pushing out minion waves, try to never put yourself in that situation. Communicate with your team and inform them that someone else needs to soak the experience, so that you are able to provide your team with healing.

2. When Not Team Fighting

In this section, we will walk you through what you should be doing outside of team fights as Li Li.

In order of priority, you should:

  • Take map objectives;
  • Soak an empty lane for experience, but not if someone else on your team with better waveclear can soak instead;
  • Heal or assist allies missing Health;
  • Take Mercenary Camps (with your team's assistance);
  • Push whatever lane your allies are already pushing the hardest.

Map objectives almost always have the largest impact on the game. If you ignore these, then not only do you miss out on objectives that the enemy takes, but the enemy team also benefits from these objectives. On some maps, team fighting is synonymous with taking objectives, like on Sky Temple or Dragon Shire, but Garden of Terror, for example, does not always promote fights between both teams. The Boss Mercenary Camp on some maps constitutes a map objective. However, sometimes it is best to give up a map objective and to simply keep pushing, but the only time you might want to consider doing this is if it is obvious that you will be unable to contest the objective.

Your goal outside of team fights is to gain as much of an advantage over your enemies as possible, and in Heroes of the Storm, this means soaking experience from minions. If there is a lane without an allied Hero in it, you need to go to it, so that the experience from minions does not go to waste. However, only do this if no other member on your team can do so, since you should be near allies should they need your assistance and healing.

Your job as a Support Hero is to keep your allies healed and alive. Head to allies that have low health and heal them. If you are soaking a lane alone, it is genenerally unwise to leave it to heal an ally though, since the experience will be wasted, but if the enemy team is grouped up and pushing a lane hard, you must react and assist your team.

If there are no map objectives to take, lanes to soak, or enemies to gank, take the Mercenary Camps. They provide a small amount of XP and a significant amount lane pressure. Taking the Mercenary Camps on the enemy's side of the map is risky, and it should only be done if you certain that the enemy team cannot, or will not contest. Li Li is ineffective at capturing Mercenary Camps alone, so you will generally need the assistance of your allies.

If you have already taken all that the map has to offer, it is likely that most, if not all of the lanes are pushing in the direction of your enemy. This pressure should be capitalised on. Push a lane with your allies to destroy the enemies' base.

3. Team Fighting

Your primary goal in team fights is to keep your allies alive, mainly through healing. Your seconary goal is to deal damage. It is very important that you do not prioritise dealing damage and leave your allies to fend for themselves. As a Support, you will usually be the only player on the team capable of healing, and if you leave your allies to chase a low health enemy you are putting them at a severe disadvantage. Stay near your backline, assisting your more vulnerable allies, like Kael'thas or Sgt. Hammer. Staying close to them also allows you to react immediately if the enemy team goes aggressive on them.

As Li Li, proper ability usage is very important. Use Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew constantly, to maximise the healing to your team. Cloud Serpent Icon Cloud Serpent's use depends on which build you are using. If you are using Serpent Build, cast Could Serpent on the ally who needs healing the most (but not if they are leaving the fight). If you are using any other build (or if no team member requires healing), cast Cloud Serpent on frontline Heroes, who will deal more damage with it. Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind should be used when you are in range of enemy Basic Attack focused Heroes. When facing enemy teams who create a Basic Attack hyper carry through Talents like Stim Drone Icon Stim Drone or Adrenal Overload Icon Adrenal Overload, wait until the hyper carry is in play and begins dealing damage. Blinding them at this moment will prevent the most damage. If the enemy team lacks Basic Attack oriented Heroes (or if these Heroes are not in the team fight), use Blinding wind liberally for damage. Use Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups during the bulk of the enemy team's damage or when multiple allies have low health. If you took Water Dragon Icon Water Dragon, use it during the initiation of either team. It will allow your team to catch the enemy or allow your team to kite theirs.

4. Summary of Tips and Tricks

  • Collect as many Regeneration Globes as you can when taking Conjurer's Pursuit Icon Conjurer's Pursuit
  • You can hold down "Q" to cast Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew automatically the moment it comes off of cooldown.
  • Preemptively cast Cloud Serpent Icon Cloud Serpent on whichever ally has the most contact with the enemy team, usually the tank.
  • Fast Feet Icon Fast Feet is activated on any source of damage, no matter how small, so it can sometimes be useful to take a tiny bit of damage to proc it, especially if you have Kung Fu Hustle Icon Kung Fu Hustle at Level 20.
  • You should stay away from the enemy team's frontline at all times, but especially when you are semi-channelling Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups, so that you can avoid any interrupting effects.
  • If you have Mass Vortex Icon Mass Vortex at Level 4 and Surging Winds Icon Surging Winds at Level 13, use Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind just prior to using Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups for 20% more healing.
  • Cleanse Icon Cleanse at Level 7 can be good when facing teams with lots of crowd control, but note that you cannot use Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew to cleanse yourself if you are Polymorphed, Silenced, or Stunned.
  • You can semi-choose what Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew and Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups targets by moving out of range of undesirable low health allies.
  • The Blind from Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind is very effective versus enemy Garden Terrors or Dragon Knights; however, it does not blind Golems or Structures.
  • Kung Fu Hustle Icon Kung Fu Hustle is one of the best talents in the game, providing a massive power spike at Level 20.
